Left in the Dark

"Marcel map our location." Sebastian ordered.

The ship flew upwards, leaving the forest and us.

"Team move in a single line, Stephen you're behind me, Damon cover our six, everyone else stay in between." Sebastian gave another order.

We began lining up in formation, moving forward once everyone was in. It's time to start the mission.

I kept my eyes beaming behind us, keeping watch the whole time while keeping track with the team. The forest was dead silent, the only sounds to hear being the crunching of our feet on twigs to the scarce noise of insects humming and buzzing.

Branches and leaves constantly hit the back of my head while we advanced deeper into the forest with the feeling of being watched, from top to bottom I observed our rear.

As we moved longer and longer, more & more branches or leaves hit the back of my head with the rear slowly turning from a few trees and leaves to foliage almost blocking the moon's light, hopefully the night vision still works.

The longer i lingered in the forest, the tighter my hand was on the trigger and rifle itself, constantly thinking of every corner having a hostile enemy staring back at me.

"Were nearing it." Marcel notified.

"The drones haven't picked any signatures up." Sebastian added.

The noise of crackling, sizzling hit my ears, getting louder as i kept moving, a glow of light emanating and brightening behind me as i moved.

"Were here, the wreckage." Sebastian announced.

I turned my head to the helicopter, swiping up my goggles. The downed transport, small parts of the ship fell off while it burned.

"Stay on the mission, were here to kill these assholes. The drones saw a few signatures west of us." Sebastian ordered. Back to our previous positions, it was back into the fray which is this forest.

Goggles swiped down, my vision was now illuminated green once again.

The screeching of grinding metal accompanied by few small explosions startled me, from the glimpse of my eye, a small object blinded my vision to the sky, disappearing through the tree line.

"They got a drone, command said it saw a flash from an area near to us. East of where were going, come on." Turning from our intended path to the side, we started moving again, slightly faster than earlier.

A strong force from behind me sent me down, thrown hard into the ground, my ears deafened by a loud explosion, slowly turning to ringing. I turned around, still deafened, splotches of dirt rained down on my face and the area around me. The team was thrown to different areas all around me, disorganized, scattered, on the ground groaning in pain. The ringing slowly becoming less and less deafening. I tried getting back up, facing the front, I noticed a spot of light from the dark bushes illuminate then quickly disappear.

My body was slammed back down, feeling multiple punches hit my chest. bolts of light dashed above me, none seeming to hit me. An ambush, shit.

"Everyone get down and return fire!" Stephen ordered, Sebastian no longer giving orders to us. I found my weapon behind me, thrown farther. I lied down on my stomach, crawling towards it keeping a very low profile from the shooters. Dirt flying upwards around me, feeling punches hit some parts of my body.

I grabbed hold of my weapon, tightly gripping it. Time to return fire.
