Chapter four
Today was the day of the presentation, Laura arrived early to finish the presentation she couldn't get it done yesterday. Everyone looked confident and ready for it. Jakes was already there.
"My partner in crime, you don't look good hope you weren't partying up all night." Jakes said. Seeing how Laura was not responding." I'm joking." Jakes said
"Morning jakes, we have a presentation to finish up, the changes we talk about yesterday I didn't do any of those changes, and the conclusion I don't think I will even do the presentation I'm sorry I messed this up for you, and you worked so hard, I was wrong about you. " Laura said.
Jakes confused about what's going on with her, she cares much about getting 100 %. Why didn't she finish her work, and why was she nice to him. Whatever it is that's bothering her must be that big.
"Wow that was a lot to take in, you know you just talk and talk, woman this spoil brat haven't have a strong black coffee this morning I'm not sure I understand all you said." Jakes said
He laughs and Laura smiled. "I'm coming just now" jakes said. He run out to get some coffee and cappuccino. Laura sat down unpack her stuff, turn on her laptop trying to complete the presentation.
*Eric arrives at the college*
"Hey still working on that, was it that hard working with jakes." Eric said
'No, wasn't totally the opposite." Laura said.
She couldn't look him in the eye.
"We should hang out later, after the presentation and assignments are done will have time to breathe again before exams are here." Eric said
"Sure." Laura said
"Are you alright?" Eric said
"I am good, just need to complete my work." Laura said
"Let me not disturb you then, good luck with the presentation." Eric said
Eric saw that Laura was not right, what is she hiding, well Eric thought probably must be Laura's father making Laura's life miserable and asking her about it won't sit well with Laura. Whatever it is he will wait for her to tell him, that what usually happens in this friendship.
"Sorry it took long, just a long queue there. Coffee or cappuccino don't know which you prefer." Jakes said.
"You decide." Laura said
"Cappuccino for me and you need a strong black coffee." Jakes said. They were working on the presentation and all was done.
"See we did it, now we just have to wait to present it and hope we are not first, I mean I hate to be the first one there. " Jakes said
"You will be fine." Laura said
Come presentation time, everybody presented. it was Laura and jakes left, knowing Laura always kills it. The lecture decided to let them be last but today Laura was distracted not her best day. They got there, Laura did the introduction, and jakes did his part.
What was left Laura to say the conclusion, while saying the last paragraph she had a flashback while she was a kid, 6 year old, her mother and father fighting?
The flashback
Her father: I told you to stay away from him, it's not enough that I have to raise his bastard child.
Her mother: don't you say that, I bump into him he doesn't know anything.
Her father: keep it that way.
She stood there looked so terrified, and Jakes kept waiting for her to say something so that this presentation won't be ruin.
Jakes snapping his hand, Earth to Laura!
"I remember "she said that loud.
Everyone laughed at her, jakes said the conclusion. After the presentation, while everyone was gossiping about her, how the top student did a bad presentation today. This was the last thing on her mind, the flash back she had she was thinking about that.
"I messed up didn't I, never happen before sorry." Laura said
"It is fine, maybe I'm just bad luck since something like this never happen before." Jakes said. trying to comfort Laura, but she was in her own world, she was thinking how could she never remember about that day, that fight between her parents and what else she couldn't remember.
"What happened there, what did you remember, you said I remember didn't look like you were talking about the presentation." Jakes said
"Nothing, I'm fine." Laura said
"I thought we agree to be nice to each other, we were getting along well." Jakes said
"Does that mean we are buddies now?" Laura said
"We work together on this presentation and very hard for something like that to happen, I would not say it's nothing." Jakes said
"When did you start caring about your work, everyone here knows you don't put any effort into it and being a child of billionaire helps." Laura said
"You don't know me, so, you don't like the fact I am from wealth family." Jakes said
"I could care less about your riches, I know your type who don't have to work for anything in their lives, come here to be popular have fun and ruin girl's lives just being a rich bad boy." Laura said
"You think you have me all figured out will see, I will prove it to you that I care about my school work and I'm not just a rich boy" Jakes said
"Good luck, your friends are waiting for you and of course the dumb blonds too." Laura said
" you are not so perfect also, the only friend you have is Eric why is that, maybe because he has Jesus and if he didn't would you two still be friends ,you push people away and no man is island you need help." Jakes said
"Well I'm not a man, you and I are not friend's, just because we both loss our mothers does not mean we should now bond over that. " Laura said.
"Don't play dumb with me, I hope whatever it is that is bothering you, you talk to someone who you trust and get help and if my mother got help, she would still be here." Jakes said.
"What are you on about, my health is not your concern and you couldn't save your mother and now you think I need saving. " Laura said.
"Wow, that's so not cool" jakes said
Jakes's friends wondering what jakes and Laura were arguing about. In fact they were wondering why he was trying to befriend Laura of all the students in this college does it have to be her.
"What was that about, don't tell me you are now friend's with that weirdo. "Parker said
"Don't call her that" jakes said
"Parker is right, she is intimidating, loner and not good for your image." Emily said
"She could use a stylish, all that time she invests on being the top achiever, she should put it on making herself look good." Becky said
"Let's not judge her." Jakes said
"Are you for real?" Emily said
"Her fashion sense is shocking but she is beautiful, she could be a model but I don't see it, her not liking people that's the reason." Parker said
"Am I not pretty to you Parker, she is a weirdo not a model." Emily said
"Don't be jealous." Parker said
"What are you thinking about jakes" Emily said
"You are so quiet, is it that bad working with her jakes?" Parker said
"She is smart and I'm not complaining." Jakes said
"Do you like her?" Emily said
"I don't know, she is just a mystery girl to me." Jakes said
"The mystery you want to figure out, careful don't fall for her." Parker said
The Girls who hang out with jakes Becky, Emily and other girls. Well, Emily had a crush on Jakes and what was she waiting on than to tell jakes this. Crushing on your friend probably not the right or smart thing but matters of the heart is it complicated or was Emily the one who is complicated not love. I don't know you decide.
" Girl, you better do something before Jakes fall into Laura's arms." Becky said
" Jakes does not love me and what's wrong with me, I have been friends with him for years, and his so called reputation which is a lie, pretending to been with many girls just to be cool. "Emily said
" Fitting in its not easy and beside we are the cool group in this college now, all because of jakes and his money." Becky said
"I think someone is going to get hurt. " Emily said
*Was she right and who was this person Emily was talking about.*
Eric said "What is going on, you were mean to Jakes that is not like you."
Laura said "just stay away from me."
Eric said "What did I do, I can see you're upset talk to me I am your best friend"
Laura said "I can't, just need to deal with this alone".
Eric said "Fine"
Just like that it is fine, and he won't push her while she does that always shouts and push everyone who tries to be close to her.
