Ch 12. Final blows

Defending was not something Kaz was very familiar with doing. He had now been fighting this man for a few minutes, and he had not been able to get a swing in at all. He wanted to look back to see if his friends were all right, but he could not take that chance. He had not heard any screaming yet, so that had to be a good sign.

"Distracted are we monster." The Leader laughed and continued his onslaught. Kaz was running out of breath. Who knew fighting would take this much out of him. He finally heard it the one thing he did not want to hear. Sarah was screaming at the top of her lungs, and she sounded hurt. Kaz had to finish this fight up fast, or he was going to lose her.

Doing something, reckless Kaz charged forward and raised his sword. The Leader took a defensive stance and prepared to parry his attack. Just as the blades crossed paths, Kaz tried something he had just thought of. Whipping his tail around, he decided to strike the Leader in the head with it. Surprised by the action, the Leader backed away, giving Kaz enough time to fill in the gap and slice at the man's chest.

It was a clean shot as blood slowly began to ooze out of the wound as the Leader breathed heavily. "You think this will be enough to stop me, you damned monster? I won't fall for the same trick twice."

Kaz saw the wound that he inflicted was kind of severe. He knew now that all he had to do was wait out the fight until the man bled to death, but he did not have time on his side. He needed to end this quickly. He charged at the man once again, but this time instead of parrying, the man sidestepped the Kobold went for a strike in Kaz's shoulder. Hot pain welds up as blood seeped from his shoulder. The pain was almost unbearable as Kaz grabbed his wound. He looked at the Leader, who was laughing a little. "What's this, a little poke, and you're already done?"

Kaz gritted his teeth and endured the pain he needed to. Not for his life anymore but for the lives of his allies. It was another life or death fight, but the stakes were much higher now. Kaz tried not to think about that right now. His only goal was to take out his current enemy.

FEAT ACQUIRED- Determination- Feeling the weight of responsibility hang on your shoulders, you keep pushing forward. Ego + 1, Strength + 1, Recovery + 1

He ignored the message and continued fighting. He felt different now. So much more durable than before, his endurance seemed to be capped off, and he could fight a little longer now. The Leader also noticed the spark in the Kobold's eye. "So, you still got fight in you?"

Charging forward, the two met with steel, but this time Kaz was not backing down and going defensive. He instead pushed back on the man. His muscles were bulging as he felt his stance tighten. He was getting ground on the Leader, and he went with it. The Leader was now forcibly taking steps back and bleeding out harder since his body was working more. The color in his face began to drain slowly, and Kaz saw the opportunity to finish it. He gave one last push and knocked the man off balance before charging in and piercing the man through.

With a grunt, the Leader fell to the ground and twitched. Kaz did not have time to see if the man was dead; he quickly turned around and charged toward where his friends were. His shoulder pain seemed to be completely gone now as adrenaline rushed through his body. He ran faster than he had ever run before and found that the two men cornered his friends. Sarah was bleeding from what looked like a superficial wound, and Perish was protecting her. The young boy with them had his hands up as if prepared to cast a spell. The two men seemed a bit unnerved as it was two against two. Kaz came charging in screaming at the top of his lungs, which surprised the two men who turned to look at him.

Perish took the opportunity to charge one and slice at his throat, which landed perfectly, causing blood to gush out and cover Perish's face. The second man spun back around to face the oncoming attacker when the young boy cast his final spell. "Bolt of fire! A streak of fire came shooting out of the young boy's hand and straight into the warrior's chest, pushing him back and knocking the wind out of him. Right as that was happening, Kaz charged forward and pierced the man's back. The man who was already out of breath tried gasping for air but could only drown in his blood.

The battle was over, and they were victorious. The young boy ran to Sarah and quickly placed his hand on her arm. "Cure!" he said calmly as a warm glow formed in his hand. The wound recovered quickly, and Sarah felt much better.

"Thanks, Peter, I appreciate it," Sarah said as she rubbed the remaining blood off.

"No problem, I could not watch as you were all going to be executed for something so stupid. If they knew who you were, they would welcome you in with open arms, not try to kill you!"

"It's alright, Peter, we are all safe, and its thanks to you and Kaz." Sarah looked at Kaz, who was now feeling the effects of the adrenaline wear off. He slumped forward and grabbed at his shoulder, which was now hurting quite a bit. Peter walked over and healed it as well.

"I thought you were a wizard, but you also know cleric spells?" Kaz asked as his wound began to heal.

"I studied as a cleric for a short time before realizing that magic was more my strong suit, but I did learn a few clerical spells before I left." Peter laughed a little and rubbed the back of his head. "My names Peter and I am honored to meet a kobold of your size!"

Kaz nodded and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Peter, my name is Kaz, and I would love to get to know more about your magic skills if possible."

"Of course, I will tell you everything I know in exchange. Could you tell me more about Kobold culture? I am fascinated with the lives of monsters."

Not knowing if his knowledge on Kobolds were the same as the knowledge in this world, Kaz was a little reluctant to give it to him. "You see, I don't know as much as you would probably like." Before he finished, Peter quickly stopped him.

"Don't worry. Any information is more than enough!"

With that, they all left into the forest to return to Perish's Hut. With the Militia men defeated, hopefully, no one would bother them.
