Ch. 33 Preparations

Using all the strength he had Kaz stumbled to the bushes with his companions. Grabbing onto him, Perish steadied his movement and they made their way towards the hut. His stomach was still healing internally so it was uncomfortable to move too fast. They encountered a few more panicked and drunk soldiers and quickly dispatched of them on their way home.

"If they made it this far then there is no telling how many spotted the hut." Perish said as she began to worry.

"They were mostly drunk so even if they did spot the hut chances of them remembering where it was is pretty slim," Peter responded trying not to think too hard about it.

The arrived at the hut after a few hours of walking and found that it was empty of soldiers. Relieved they made their way inside and lied Kaz down on the bed. He accepted the treatment that Perish applied to him and tried to relax his muscles a little.

"We can't stay here any longer. They will start sending patrols to look for us." Kaz said between breaths.

"We can't just leave now with you in that condition." Perish retorted. She was upset that she did not save him sooner and began to hate herself a little for getting him in this situation. Windson who tagged along with the group spoke up.

"I'm sorry to bother you all but Kaz is right. We will need to get out of here. If they start sending patrols our way we won't be able to getaway. Is there another location we could go to that isn't so close to here?"

everyone paused for a second and looked at each other with uncertainty. Windson was confused as to why everyone went silent all of a sudden. "Well?" He said waiting for a response.

"We are trying to get across the border but we have been having trouble planning it to where we all make it." Kaz finally responded after a few moments. Peter had a moment of eureka as he remembered the scrolls in his bag.

"Kaz I wanted to show you these. Perhaps we could use them on Perish to hide her." Rummaging through his bag he pulled out three small rolled up pieces of parchment. He opened one and on it was what looked to Kaz like magical writing similar to his spellbook.

"I was able to get a few scrolls of minor invisibility they only last 5 minutes each but it might be long enough to hide her from the guards when we cross."

Kaz gave a weak smile and nodded his head. This was good they had everything in order finally. But there was just one thing that was on Kaz's mind. What about Windson? Now that he was with them did he plan on staying with them as well or did he have someplace to go?

"Windson did you have anyplace you could go to now that you're free?"

Windson smiled and shook his head. "Not a single place here that will accept me. I was actually on my way to the border as well when I was attacked and captured." Pointing behind him towards the door he added. "I noticed you had a garden of herbs and plants. Mind if I look them over? I could use a refill on my powder bombs."

Perish gave him a sharp look. "Don't you dare trample anything back there. Only take a few things don't ransack the whole garden."

Windson bowed and nodded then headed towards the garden. Perish returned to looking over Kaz and could see that there was definitely a lot more life in him than before. Peter and Sarah began gathering stuff in the hut to place in their bags. If they really were about to head to the border they were going to need to supply themselves.

Perish went back to the garden to check up on Windson who was being very delicate with her plants. It looked like he had done this many times before perhaps with his own garden. She was actually happy to see someone take care of her plants the way she does. "What kinds of powder bombs can you make with those?"

"Well from what I see in your garden, which might I add is very well kept. I could make pepper bombs and a few paralysis bombs. If I had enough time I could make a few glue ones too but I don't think we will be here long enough."

"That is amazing that you knew so much about my plants. I have only used them for recovery purposes I did not know they could be made into powder bombs."

Windson continued gently plucking some herbs. "When mixed with the right ingredients plants can be made into just about anything."

They continued their conversation outside and Kaz watched Peter and Sarah preparing for a trip. He was sure this was the best they could come up with for getting across the border. Besides that, he needed to get across as soon as possible if he was going to start his tribe up. Looking at his character sheet he was surprised by something.

Countdown to Mission fail- 80 days 15 hours

When did he get 10 points all of a sudden? He had only taken out 1 soldier during that training period. Unless it also counted the leader and the random soldiers he took out along the way to the hut. That might just be it. The countdown said he had 80 days left. He could still make it at this rate with time to spare if he needed it. He also had so many skill points but where was the missions accomplished page that usually showed up? Is the mission still on going?

If that was the case for how much longer? He could really use all the points he could get and killing drunk soldiers was easy for him. He felt so much better knowing he had earned that many points today. He rested his eyes and decided that he would catch some sleep before they left. It did not take long for Kaz to doze off. The rhythmic sounds of voices in the garden and in the hut quickly aided him into slumber.

The morning arrived and Kaz awoke to a message in front of him.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED- Kill Soldiers

Total slain = 5

Total bosses slain = 1

Total Character points earned = 10

Note- Keep up the good work, Prince of Darkness.

That was the first time he had heard the system praise him. For some reason he did not like the way it sounded. But he accepted the points and stretched his arms out to wake up some more. He found that his wounds felt so much better and noticed everyone else was sitting around the table looking at the map.

Slowly hopping out of bed, Kaz joined them and noticed there were some marks on the map. Windson continued what he was saying. "These are all the known locations of human camps that I know of. If we take this route-" He draws a line that avoids all the camps, "Then we should be able to make it to the border without any issues."

Kaz looked at the map and noticed that the line Windson drew took them away from the camps but also added quite a bit of time to their travels. "Just how long would it take us to get to the border if we took that route?"

Windson sighed and looked at the now healthy Kobold. "It would take us about a month and a half to make it there by foot."
