14. Gold

When I woke up the next morning, I was expecting a loud alarm noise or something. However, it was just this horrible ringing in my ears that got louder the longer I laid there. I finally got out of bed when it was impossible to ignore, and I sighed in relief as soon as it ended. That has got to be annoying. I walked over to my closet, but Michael glided in before I could figure out which one to wear.

"So I checked your schedule and today you have magic classes since they don't want you to burst and blow something up. We have three different uniforms for three different types of schedule days. This one is for core classes like math and science." While he spoke, he pointed at a rather normal looking school uniform. It was in burgundy and black, and it honestly looked pretty slick. "This next one is for magic classes, and you'll wear it today." This one was more like a robe, but it looked really comfy. There were still pants and a shirt to go under it, but they were just plain black. The over coat was burgundy with blue stripes, and I loved the ascetic of the clothing. "Finally, there's physical combat. When your magic supply runs low, we rely on fist fighting to stay alive. Here's what you wear for that." His dark hand brushed over a final outfit, and it was more fit for agility than looking nice like the other two. I don't know a thing about fighting, but it would probably be a good outfit to do it in. "Get dressed, breakfast is in 30 minutes."

I walked over to the bathroom to begin my normal morning routine, and I found that it too was really nice for a magic school. Where in the world did they get all of this money? After washing my face, brushing my teeth, and combing my hair, I finally got around to putting on the clothes, and I noticed that they fit me perfectly. That's slightly creepy; my clothes from Walmart don't even fit this well. When I walked into the main room, Michael was watching TV and dancing to the theme song of some random show. "Uhhhhhhhh..."

"Oh hey Benji! Sorry you had to see this." He stopped moving around, and he turned to look at me with bright eyes. "I just can't not dance to this!"

"All students report to role call. I repeat, students to role call." The voice was seemingly coming from everywhere, and I cringed away from the noise into my skin.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to that. There are 3 different divisions, blood, water, and gold. It goes in order of magical ability; you can either raise or drop a division in your first few days, but then you're stuck forever. Bloods are usually low level magic users. They don't have much ability in magic, but they're usually skilled in either academics or fist fighting. Waters are pretty in the middle when it comes to magic. They're pretty well rounded between all three subjects, and they make up a lot of the population. Golds have extremely strong magic that has to be taken care of almost immediately before they either lose control or use too much. They're extremely explosive and also have a lot of skill in the other two areas, but they have to focus on magic a lot early on so they don't burn the school down. As of right now, you're a water, so you role call with us. I can show you, actually, because I'm one too!"

Mikey pulled me down the hallway excitedly, and I followed him since I didn't really know where I was going. We stumbled together all the way to a very open room, and there were so many students milling around that I wanted to throw up. "There's a lot of people here."

"Mhm, but pretty much all of them are nice. You're going to love it here; I know that." Each of the corners had a differently colored carpet, and I assumed it was for the different divisions. Everyone was beginning to form up into lines, and Mikey turned to look at me. "What's your last name?"

"I don't know which one he registered me under."

"Your real one."

"Mikey my life has been turbulent recently, and I've had about 3 different last names in the last week."

"Well what's your dad's last name?"

"Evans."

"Okay cool, we stand next to each other. Mine is Ethaniel."

"That's a weird last name."

"Not the worst I've ever heard." As we stood side by side, a teacher in the middle of the room began to shout something that made the room go totally silent. Three adults were standing in the room fully clothed in either red, blue, or gold, and I figured they were important. "They're the heads of the divisions. I'll explain more later."

The blue one walked towards our group, and his cold, hazel eyes scanned over each and every one of us, but they locked onto me for an extra long time. He had aqua blue hair– committed much– and a calculating stare that made me want to melt into the floor. He stopped in front of the first person in line and began to call out names. If someone was missing, he would simply frown and cross their name off of the list. When he got to me, his eyes looked me up and down with dissatisfaction. "Benjamin Evans?"

"Yes sir."

"I knew your father... Whatever you do, don't become him, or I'll make your life a living nightmare."

"Yes sir." I sighed in relief when he moved on, and based off of his pissed off look my father was quite the problem child. We stood while waiting for the teachers to finish taking role, and I was busy figuring out how to balence on one foot when everything was finally finished. We were dismissed to breakfast, but I felt that burning in my chest again. "Mikey."

"Yeah?"

"My magic is about to blow, what do I do?" Suddenly, he grabbed onto my hand and dragged me up to the creepy division head from before.

"Why are you still here, Michael? Go to breakfast!"

"Sir Benji is having magic problems."

"Oh great, bring him to the special room."

Oh no, I was not making it to a room. This power was coming out right now whether I wanted it to or not. Aqua man seemed to notice that before it actually happened, and he threw up a protective barrier around me just before the magic burst out of my system. The entire building shook on its foundation, and the crackle in the air was loud. My red electricity seemed to shatter the shield, and it flung everyone around me back 50 feet. One of the poor teachers even left a hole in the wall from the force, and the pure shock was evident in everyone around me. When the school finally stopped quaking, we had an audience from pretty much the whole school.

"Man, I don't think any of my kids could even pull that off," the gold division head announced while brushing off his coat, and the others nodded.

"Well it's not like we have anywhere to put him other than with you."

"Well then I guess that Benjamin Evans is a gold..."
