15. Practice Makes...

"Benjamin Evans is a gold... And a high end one. I've never seen that kind of power from an untrained teenager."

"How in the world did he break my shield? I was one of the top in my class of graduates!" If I thought aqua man hated me before, he definitely does now. His cold eyes sized me up once more, but they narrowed when they realized I was watching back.

"He's probably stronger, Demasicus, please calm down. He's just a child; he probably doesn't even understand how big of a deal this is."

"This is a big deal?"

"Exactly. Now run along to breakfast, and one of our gold senior members will help you to class today."

My stomach perked up at the word breakfast, and I skipped over to Mikey to help him stand up. "That. Was. Awesome! You didn't tell me you could do things like that! It did make me hungry, though."

"Me too, let's get food now!"

As we walked through the school, random people kept coming up to me and telling me how cool that was. I didn't really understand, and I didn't want the attention from everyone. It's just my first day! However, I forgot all of my issues when we got to breakfast. The food was absolutely amazing, and I had to stop myself from moaning at the orgasmic taste 10 times.

Finally, the weird voice that had intruded itself into my head announced the end of breakfast, and I said bye to Mikey before looking for that senior student. It took me a while, and the room was almost empty when I finally found him. "So you're the hot shot boy that shook the whole school earlier."

"Yeah, that's me."

"I just want you to know, you're nothing special. This is all going to go away in a few days and you'll be just as friendless as before."

"Thanks for the information." The older boy simply scoffed at me before leading me into a small classroom. I knew that it was the right place from the golden curtains, but there there was just a thick carpet and walls totally covered in padding.

"Have fun with the nut!" As soon as the door closed, a teacher came out of the shadows. She was clad in the same padding the rest of the room had, and she looked at me with narrowed eyes.

"Uhhh what are you wearing?"

"I don't wanna die of a heart attack. The most you can do to harm anyone other than yourself in this room is blow out the windows, but they're used to replacing them at this point. From what Mr. Sequiz told me, you're on a higher level of magic than a lot of our other students. It will probably be a handful to teach you to control it if he speaks that highly of you. This here is the beginners spell book for gold." The book she handed me was bound in leather, and I could tell that it was built to last for a very long time. "You just think the spell, imagine yourself doing it, then it happens. Think of your magic like a creek rather than a river; don't use too much. Give it a try."

The woman stepped back many feet from me, and I opened the spell book. As soon as I did so, a rush of wind came out of it, and I knew that it belonged to me and only me. It was warm in my hands, and I wanted to spend hours reading from it to learn all of the spells inside. I opened to the first page, and it said something about producing light out of my hands. The teacher in front of me put on sunglasses in preparation for my failure, and I was intent to not lose control. I took a steadying breath before thinking the words, and I imagined light coming from my hands. When it didn't work, I thought of it being a bit stronger, but nothing was happening! Stupid magic, why won't you work! Just as I thought about it not working and stopped my focus, the light was born in my hand, but it was instantly blinding.

I finally managed to close my eyes, but my corneas were on fire from the bright light. My hands fell when I stopped thinking about the glow, and I held my head in my hands.

"You okay, kid? Look at me." I opened my eyes, but everything was totally blurry. I could see shapes, but nothing was super focused. It was like watching a super, super old movie, but in color. "How many fingers am I holding up?"

"Two, ma'am."

"Okay good you aren't totally blind. You'll be fine."

"That hurt."

"I probably should've told you to start with a different one, but how else are you gonna learn? You know that it only takes a bit, right?"

"It wasn't working when I first tried!"

"It isn't an instantaneous thing until you practice, kid. You gotta give it a moment, and you can't lose focus in the middle of a spell! Try again with a different spell."

My vision was a bit clearer again, and I stepped back and picked a spell to generate water. I figured I couldn't really do anything wrong with it, so I thought the words in front of me and imagined water in my hands. I added a bit of magic and just waited, and soon water began to swirl around my hands. I got excited at the sight, but the emotion caused me to over flush my magic. The water rushed from my hands like a waterfall, and I forced it to stop before the room could flood. My eyes widened at the puddle of water around me, and I swiftly picked up my spell book out of the wetness.

Of course, it was magic, so it wasn't wet at all. However, I really care about keeping the book nice; I want to keep it forever as a token of my learning. "That was a bit better; you were able to be patient for it, but you got excited once you saw it and lost control. I'm going to teach you how to release magical energy without making things blow up seeing as yours charges rather quickly; we don't need another accident like this morning. Flip to page 389." I flipped through the pages to the asked one, and I watched her begin to explain that this one was created to burn off magic. The spell is designed to disperse magic into your aura so that the atmosphere can take it in and help plants grow. No wonder Jack's plants are so green.

When I tried to do it, I felt the pressure all over my body release. It was like I was 10 pounds lighter, and I felt the ringing in my ears finally stop. "You don't have to focus as much on that one, just monitor it to make sure you aren't dispersing too much."

"Lunch time." A voice declared in my mind, and my eye twitched.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to that. Now go to lunch."

"Thank you, bye!"
