24. Aftermath

Benji's POV

I anxiously paced back and forth, and my brain dismissed Will also being wheeled in on a stretcher. He was covered in blood, and the scratch over his right eye was bleeding profusely. He's much worse off than Connor... Good. I'm not a bad person, but he kissed me after I told him I didn't like him. The thing is... That kiss made me so confused.

A doctor came back into the room, and he smiled at Devon. The grin was slightly flirtatious, and it made him very visibly uncomfortable. "Your son will be okay. I couldn't do much about his missing hair, but it should be simple to fix. You're looking fiiiine today, Alpha."

"Can you just take me to my son?" Dev sounded very annoyed, and he stepped away from the doctor slowly.

"Aww, not so fast, cutie. I just wanna give you a little kiss."

"Stay away from me!"

The man's hands reached out to Dev, and I jerked my arms up in a split second reaction. I don't know what my original plan was, but it worked as red electricity flew into him. He fell back with a hand over his heart, and I hoped I didn't have a murder on my hands. However, he was still breathing, so that was a plus.

"Thank you Benji," Dev whispered breathlessly, and he walked up to one of the other nurses. "What room is my son in?"

"Room 887. Sorry about him, Alpha."

"Oliver will deal with him~"

"Yes alpha."

"Come along Benjamin." I followed Dev down the hall, and I could tell he was still shaken up a bit. However, he was a strong man, and he wouldn't let another person drag him down. Once we got to room 887, he put on his easy smile and pushed open the door. Connor was on the bed, and I could see a thin plastic tube pushing blood into his body. The poor boy was missing a chunk of his black hair on the side of his head, and he looked paler than usual. Other than that he seemed like he would be fine.

"The kid that he fought didn't make it out as well. He's permanently blinded in one eye, and he has a shattered rib. When he got here, he was still coughing out blood."

"I don't care about the other kid! My son is the only one that was truly important to me."

"He will make a smooth recovery, and his hair will grow back. It may take awhile because the scalp was irritated, but it's minimal damage for what he went through. Obviously he lost a lot of blood, but we're pumping more into his system."

"Thank you ma'am."

"You're welcome, Alpha. I'll let you be."

It was only a few minutes more of waiting before a loud groan came from the bed, and I whipped my head around to look at Connor. "Papa?"

"I'm here baby."

"Did I win?"

"Yes. You did a damn good job at it too, Con Con."

"Good... He was way out of line."

"You'll make an amazing alpha, baby. We raised you very well."

"Thank you papa. I'm disappointed, though."

"Why?"

"I got this beaten by a stupid omega!"

"It's obvious that the kid is way more than an omega. Look at his resilience. I've never seen that in a wolf with that low of a rank before. Don't worry about it please."

"Then what is he!?"

"Connor calm down you're still hurt."

"But I shouldn't be! Injury makes me weak, and I can't be weak. No one will ever take a week alpha seriously. Why do I have so many responsibilities!"

"What do you mean, Connor?"

"Not only am I supposed to be an alpha, but I'm also the heir to the hell throne! How am I going to deal with all of this on my own."

"Your dad and I will be here to help you."

"For how long?"

"Excuse you, I'm 36!"

"I can't rely on you two for the rest of my life."

"You know that Ariel's beta training also leans towards alpha. Her whole job is to take care of the pack when you're away; no one ever said how often you'll be away."

"Papa..."

"Don't worry; everything will work out."

Suddenly, the door slammed open, and all three of us spun around to see my sobbing father. He clung to the shocked Dev with strong arms, and he began to sob unintelligible words.

"Jack can you use English please?"

"I found Dan's killer!"

"Isn't that good?"

"It would be, but he's my soulmate! Devon I don't know what to do. I was going to give him a chance, but he might be playing me and I'm tired of my emotions being toyed around with!"

"Jack... I'm sorry to hear about that."

"I... I'm just sad. I need my soulmate now more than ever and he turned out to be a big... Huge dud!"

"Maybe it's best to give him a chance."

"What do you mean, Dev?"

"I mean, he probably changed. The bond wouldn't let him hurt you intentionally. Don't worry about it, okay?"

"But what if he does?"

"Come on, I'm going to take you somewhere."

"Where are we going?"

"Don't worry."

I watched the two go out, and I walked up to Connor. He was sucking on a straw, but he stopped when I walked over. "Hey Benji."

"Hey."

"I hope it didn't weird you out... That we were fighting. I know how much that stuff offends you..."

"It's fine. I know it's some kind of tradition for you all. I just hope that none of the humans noticed, or we're all in trouble."

"They would kill us."

"Mhm."

"Benji... Come sit."

I sat down next to him, and he looked up at me. His eyes were a weird mix of blue and red, and I was shocked by the beauty. Woah woah woah, he's my cousin. That is one of the weirdest things I've ever thought. "What is it?"

"Sorry... I just wanted someone to talk to about all of this."

"I'm here for you... What is it?"

"I just have so much power that I'm supposed to be coming into, and I'm not ready for it all. What if I mess up... Make a mistake and screw up the world. What if they all hate me, and I keep challenging and challenging until one day, I lose."

"Connor, no one is going to hate you. You're very, very kind."

"Kind might not be enough? I might crash and burn or make a fool of myself. What then?"

"All of our friends and me will be here for you, Connor. You aren't alone in this world."

"Thanks I guess."

"No problem. Now rest up."

"Okay... Night."
