'Beserker?'
This was Aren's first thought when he heard what the bandit leader said but within a minute he understood what Honker meant.
If before the bandit leader had the strength of a bull then now his strength was maybe even higher than a monster. With every punch and charge of the beserker, large amounts of stone fell from the walls and ceilings. He seemed to have completely lost his mind as no matter how far away Aren went or how thick rock Aren hid behind, the beserker wouldn't stop.
Although Honker didn't use any skills, his strength was enough for Aren to give a headache. While dodging, a large piece of rock fell from the ceiling. It was exactly over Aren's head and if he did not sidestep, that rock would fall exactly on him but from another side, Gurlim's punch was coming towards him. However, although he appeared to be in an extremely awkward situation there was no hint of panic on his face. Instead a smile formed there. There was something he could do now...
Probability change!
Just as he cast the spell, an extremely bizarre occurrence happened. The large rock which was supposed to fall on Aren ''accidentally'' changed its trajectory and instead fell on Honker.
Aren distanced himself from that madman and was about to cast unpredictable cards but from behind, Lucian appeared there.
He quickly swung his sword at Honker, who had just punched the rock into pieces. The sword made a cut on his hand and blood did appear but like in case of Gurlim, Honker also received frost damage.
Aren was not suprised when he saw this because he had already sensed two enchanted apprentice level spells on the necklace Lucian was wearing. One was the icing lock which was used on Gurlim and another was a simple icicle shot. The effect of ice appearing on the sword as actually an auxiliary enchantment. But even so, it was a big help to non-casters.
Lucian didn't follow with another attack but came beside Aren.
"How long has he gone beserk?" he asked
"Just a moment ago." as Aren answered him, he noticed that Lucian seemed to already know the bandit was a beserker. Aren didn't pursue the matter though as he had came to help him in time.
"Good... then it won't be a problem to take him down." he said and looked around.
"If we stay here for long, this place would cave in due to his attack. We have to quickly finish this fight. Aren, attack with all your might. Do not hold back!"
Lucian then rushed forward holding his sword. While Lucian started to battle with the beserker, Aren quickly took out a scroll from his robe and tore it apart. Immediately, a green halo enveloped him and runic force was again filled to brim.
It was a scroll enchanted with a plant attribute restoration spell.
Charging his foot with runic force, he too rushed forward and engaged with the bandit leader Honker.
First, he used his signature skill force punch to disrupt the rhythm of enemy's attack, which gave Lucian a chance to slash with his full power. They started to join forces to take this bandit leader down.
Yet, as the beserker got more and more wounds his power also increased. After a while, his strength reached rank 2 but at that time, his mind only had one thought which was to destroy everthing in front of him.
After Aren again punched six times consecutively on the bandit's body, which was now covered in blood; he withdrew from the battle. Lucian also came back, while shooting the last icicle shot left for today on the magical item.
There was no use fighting with Honker now that he had entered a crazed state. Normally, a beserker would only calm down if their opponent was killed but if that did not happen then they would go crazy and lose their mind. It was a double edged sword to have as a trump card.
Bang! bang!
Honker started destroying whatever came in his sight when he saw that the two men were not fighting him. At this rate, the cave will collapse in ten minute. Lucian would've to find the box in which the bandits kept their loot and get out of this cave. Fortunately they had already sent the women outside after dealing with the other bandits.
Lucian then asked Aren to go outside and wait for him there which Aren thought was an insane thing to do. The cave was about to collapse anytime soon, what was this guy thinking?
Yet that was Lucian's decision. Aren couldn't do anything about it. He only nodded and said "Be careful"
Right after that, he ran towards the exit without hesitation. The beserker who was now roaring completely disregarded them. He had already lost his mind.
In about two minutes, he appeared outside. Balancing himself with a tree trunk, he put his one hand on his knee and another on the tree as he panted.
After he managed to catch a breather, he looked at the dark cave which was collapsing from inside.
After a while, Lucian appeared out from the cave entrance, clutching his sword between his two jaws and holding a metal box in his hand. Just as he came beside Aren and put the box down, the whole cave crashed, burying the bodies of bandits and the beserker.
"Huff... huff... at last, I made it in time." Lucian said while gasping for air after he sheathed his sword. He then looked towards those 20 women at a distance and said to Aren.
"There are so many of them. If it was only you and me, we could walk through this forest to reach Havrick in two days. 4 or 5 of them wouldn't have been a problem but for this many..."
"Lets wait for the merchants who come to stock merchandise in capital. They have many space in their carriages after selling the goods. If I'm not wrong, at least one merchant group pass by the road we came once a day."
Aren's quick mind thought of a soultion almost immediately. Hearing so, Lucian seemed to be relieved. He squatted down and opened the metal box he brought.
Aren was curious as to what was inside that box. Lucian had put his life in to take this box at the last moment. There had to be something valuable inside this box.
However, when the box opened, there were no shining jewelleries nor there were any gold coins inside. There were twelve potion bottles and one was extremely eye-catching. It was a little larger too with a green coloured potion inside.
Lucian's eyes glowed when he saw that this potion was here. He immediately grabbed it and passing the whole box to Aren, he said.
"I only want this. You can take the rest."
He put the potion in a bag he'd brought with great care. It seemed that when he went take the box full of potions, this potion was what he needed. Aren didn't object with his decision and only nodded. He had no say in this even if Lucian took all of the potions for himself. He should be thankful that he even got these without doing anything.
They met up with the women and rested there for a while. Thereafter, as per what Aren said, went to the wayside and waited for the merchants.
Just as he said, the merchants passed by the road. They were also somewhat famous merchant groups called Falcon Merchants.
As the merchants carriages usually moved slow, they reached Havrick the evening of the next day. As for the women, some had their own homes while the homeless ones when to the cathedral. It was the only place they could go now. Most of them would become nuns for orphans or workers in the cathedral. Other than a church, the Holy Light cathedral was something like a charity organization.
By the time Lucian and Aren submitted the quest as completed, the sun was already about to set. After they got their pay, Lucian invited him for a drink which Aren readily agreed. There was no reason to reject friendship with an experienced adventurer.
As they sat around a small table on one corner of the first floor, Lucian odered the speciality of Guild's drink, Torhine beer. It had a bitter-sweet taste at first but later refreshing. As as beer made of malt, it had high alcohol content so it was served mixing with sweet spring water.
Aren, sipping the beer in a large wodden mug, asked Lucian when he saw that he looked extremely happy.
"Looks like the potion is very useful for you."
"Yeah, with that I can heal my sister's wound." Lucian didn't mind telling Aren what he was going to do with the potion. After doing a quest with him, Although Aren looked mysterious with that hooded robe of his, Lucian came to know he was a trustworthy person.
"You, even as a new adventurer seem fairly powerful." Lucian commented in passing. He was impressed with Aren's quick way of thinking and his poweress. Aren also was not like other adventurers who mostly refused to cooperate and did as they liked. If there was another chance, he would like to Adventure with Aren again.
"It's all thanks to my master's training." He said while looking at the small white bubbles forming in his beer.
'And my spells' he added inwardly.
Suddenly, he lifted his head and looked outside from the glass windows. The sun had already set but it was still bright outside. There was no surprise in other people's faces though, as if it was an everyday thing for them.
'What is happening?' Aren stood up and casually looked outside and was shocked at what he saw. In the steeple of the church of Light, where there was that large white gem; he saw a light coming.
In the night sky, the gem which was giving off rays of white light was like a minature sun, illuminating the whole of Havrick city.
