"So the Holy Light has lit? Nighttime has come then." Lucian calmly said while sipping his beer. Aren noticed that more and more adventurers had returned to submit their quests' completion.
"Yeah." as he sat down, he said this not to make Lucian more suspicious about him. Truth to be told, this was the first time he had seen this ''Holy Light'' lit. In the Magicwoods district, the night would always be the same, with starry skies and silvery moon. It seemed that the whole district was not concealed but rather in another dimension.
"As much as I know, During the dark ages and twilight era, this Light represented the hope of humans. At that time, the great war was still going on and human cities were frequently attacked by monsters and other races except for elves and dwarves. At the day time, it was managable but at night the monsters came in thousands. The Holy Light coming from the steeple of cathedral had exterminated those monsters and kept them at bay.
As a result, the human race had managed to survive that war. With the God of Light being the only god who stood on humans' side, he was and is still hailed as a Guardian of humans. Later on, the practice of lighting the Holy Light in the capital cities of human kingdoms and Empires prevailed and is still in practice."
Lucian said in a solemn manner. It seemed that he was a believer of the God of Light.
'Wow, so this God is actually a nice guy.' Aren only said this in his mind. He didn't want to speak that out loud, lest he would be surrounded by some ''pure believers''.
"Lucian, you seem to have a magical item. Do you know where I can sell the potions? I also need to buy a magical item." Sipping another sip of beverage, Aren asked. Although he could just go to Magicwoods district, he didn't want to experience that headache anytime soon. If there was a buyer that was outside of the district, he wouldn't mind selling if the price was good.
"Oh those potions, I knew you would ask me about it. Come with me, I'll introduce you to a buyer. You can also buy magical items at his place." Lucian answered as if he had already expected it. Then, standing up from the chair, he walked outside the guild.
Aren followed him in the brightly lit street as they went towards coppernoon district. Going through winding alleyways, Lucian brought him to a two storied wooden house.
Knock! knock!
As they reached in front of the wooden door, he knocked in a rhythmic manner and patiently waited. After a minute, sounds of a person walking came from behind the door. Then the door opened with a creaking sound. Half opening the door, a man peeked from inside.
Due to the Light, Aren could see that the face was of a young man in his twenties. He looked to be in lack of sleep as his eyes were red when they saw him. The young man looked at the two of them with his sleepy eyes and seeing Lucian, he suddenly jolted.
"Lucian, why are you here? You know I have been busy with my crafting, right?"
"Well, I've brought you a customer, magician Boely." Lucian replied.
As Boely heard his words, he looked at Arenwho was beside Lucian and asked.
"Is he the one?"
Lucian nodded gently.
Seeing Lucian nod, he fully opened the door and let them inside.
'Magician? Isn't he just a senior apprentice?' While Aren thought of this, Magician Boely led them to his living room.
The room was had a small table in the middle, a large chair at one side and two couches on the other. It also had a hearth inside. The room had classical western styled windows and glass lamps. However, in the lamps, instead of being fire was a magical light.
The whole lamp was a magical item!
'How extravagant.' Aren looked around, amazed at the magical items inside the room.
Lucian and him sat on the couch as the Magician, as claimed by Lucian, sat on the large chair.
"So, what do you want to trade?" he asked Aren without wasting any time on useless chatter. He was very busy with his work just then. If it hadn't been for Lucian, he wouldn't even bother with others.
Still, he was missing something. Aren was also an apprentice, his spirit was also more powerful but Boely didn't realize it. Aren stroked the black ring on his finger as he thought, 'This ring has more uses that I knew of. Even the headmaster didn't notice this concealing function.'
Then he took out the two big boxes from inside his robe and opened them. Immediately, a row of potion bottles, filled with green potions was reflected on Boely's eyes. He slowly extended his hands and took out a bottle. As he smelled the potion inside, opening the cap; an astonished expression appeared on his tired face.
"This is... a summoning potion!" he exclaimed as he quickly put the cap again. If not, the potion would loose its effects.
"The potion's name is Sulvervine potion. When thrown on any ground surface, it can summon magical vines. Even as an apprentice level potion, it's price is very high. The price for even one of these potions is 14 golds."
As he gave Aren a keen look, Aren understood what he meant. Even if he was not an alchemist, he knew the market value for rare apprentice level potions. So he knew Boely was telling the truth.
Enchanted scrolls were easy to make but brewing potions was hard. However, potions were easy to use and had more potency than scrolls so the price was higher. But of course, Aren's scrolls already had the power to rival that of potions which was why Emelia had bought them.
"I'm fine with the price. As there are 60 of them here, the total price of these potions will be 840 gold coins. I will buy a magical item with that money."
Aren closed the boxes, which were opened on the table and pushed them towards Boely as he responded in agreement. After Boely had put the boxes away, he sat on the chair again and leaned forward as he asked.
"So, what kind of magical item do you want?"
Aren pondered deeply on this matter. His choice of magical item here would be one of the deciding factors on how good he could perform in the test and whether he could save katty or not. As he had speed and attack power, he only thing he was lacking was defense, especially magical defense.
"I need a defensive item. It will be better if there is magical defense." Aren answered after making his decision.
"If so, then I have a perfect item for defense." he stood up and went to another room. After a while, he entered the living holding a bracelet in his hands. As he placed the brown coloured bracelet on the middle of table, he started saying,
"This is an earth elemental magical item. Against an apprentice level spell, it has exceptional defense. While crafting, I had specially placed the spell, earth armour and soil wall in it. These two spells can be used three times a day. You'll know the corresponding incantations as soon as you equip it. Other than that, it has a certain passive healing ability, Earth heal. Although it's not as good as plant and holy attribute healing spells, it can help in faster recovery of wounds."
"This is much more better than mine."
Although Lucian had only mumbled this under his breath, Boely seemed to have heard that as he said. "Your magical item only cost 600 golds while the cost for this is 900 gold coins."
He then turned to the hooded Aren and asked, "What do you think? Is this to your liking? As the potions' quality was good, I'll give you this for 840 golds."
'A passive healing ability! This guy is a very accomplished crafter, yet why is he living here?' Though Aren was curious, he decided not to ask.
"Hmm... I'll take it then." He picked up the bracelet from the table and wore it. As the magical item had the very spell, earth armour; that he needed, he bought the item. Actually, the price of an item like this would be way high if he bought it in magicwoods but as the seller was giving a generous discount, there was no reason for him to not buy it.
"You're not going to test it?" Boely was suprised when Aren readily agreed. It didn't make sense. Most of the customers would at least check if the spells work when they came to buy for a first time but Aren was not like others.
Faced with this question of the magical craftsman, Aren just smiled and replied.
"I've seen Lucian use his item, so I believe there is credibility in your work."
He had said in a meaningful way that he would like to buy the magical items again from here, which Boely understood. Lucian, however, was confused by Aren's actions.
After they left Magician Boely's house, Aren didn't return to magicwoods but stayed in an inn with Lucian.
He still had time. So while he was there, he wanted to finish five small F-ranked quests and take the rank promotion trial. He had heard from Lucian that doing one E-ranked quest had the same meaning as doing five F-ranked quests.
He had decided that only after being promoted to an rank E adventurer, would he return to the academy.
