Alexis stared at the thin man who was crouched down in front of her. Long dark green bangs obstructed his vision and bright blue eyes were visible between the strips of hair that covered his face.
"Ah…" it was sad to say that she had completely forgotten about him.
She was so glad she won the match and got her sight back that he had completely disappeared from her thoughts.
"Don't just look at me with that stupid expression!" He snarled and Sir Roger gave his head a slap to quiet him down.
"If Miss Fairy hadn't shown mercy to you, you'd be dead right now", he said, Alexis felt a bit guilty at his words as she had no intention to kill Adam in the first place.
"I'd rather be dead right now", the man muttered in return.
"Well Mr Wolfe", Alexis crouched down to meet his angry gaze.
Originally she didn't know what to do with him and the disciple thing was all that came to her mind. It was a whim. She hadn't discussed any of it with Alastair or Joshua but she figured her wish would be their command. Since, she was the one who won that match.
She thought she might as well get straight to the point, "you will be given the position of the Royal Mages right-hand man, it was the only name I can- could think up for you".
"What?" He stared at her with wide eyes in shock at her unexpected words.
"Should I say it again?" Alexis frowned.
"N-No. I- I- Attacked you? Why are you helping me?" He stuttered, his anger was replaced by a baffled face.
Alexis sighed at the plausible question.
"You were right. When you said I wasn't worthy of being a royal mage, I was stunned because… it was true. I didn't have a speck of worth", she bit her lip, "so, I'm glad you told me, really. The reason I want you by my side is because you're strong. And yeah I know I won that fight, but that was after you'd been starved in a pitch black room and in near insanity. I'm not an idiot, I know I couldn't have won that match if you were in perfect health".
Adam gave a snort at her words.
"So you aren't as dumb as you look. Maybe, I went too far when I said you weren't worth the position", he chuckled out and stood up with Sir Roger holding his shoulder in caution.
"No. I like the honesty", Alexis gave a grin of appreciation which was returned by rolled eyes.
"I can't tell", they both laughed at the sarcastic remark until Adam held out his hand.
"Miss Alexis, the Wolfe family accepts your request and have decided to support the Emperor faction. I, Adam Wolfe, the heir to the Wolfe Dukedom will gladly take the role of your disciple".
"Did you decide that all on you own?"
"Meh, my parents will come around. My mother especially, she keeps saying stuff like 'Miss Fairy Angel saved you' I'm not sure what you've done to her?"
"Oh….. ha ha", Alexis gave an awkward laugh at the strange nicknames she kept acquiring.
'Why can't they just call me a Royal Mage?' She thought with a flushed face.
Since Adams job would be mostly in the main palace, he was provided a room and would later have to draw up a contract with Alastair.
But something else bothered Alexis, it was the talk of the factions. She wasn't too familiar with the term except in political groups were the term was usually used. She decided to ask Agathus about it later on.
It has been two full months since she first arrived in this strange world and she still had no clue of how things ran. It was so different to earth. Everything was… more… magical.
Her next lesson with Emilia had been learning how to control the wind around them. And the way Emilia taught her was so strangely familiar, déjà vu seemed to wash over her as she did it.
"Wind is what most people usually start with, things like electricity and earth require a lot more concentration. It is the easiest way a person can identify whether or not they have mana", Emilia's words seemed to fly over her head as she tried to recall the strange memory that made her feel unsettled as she did as instructed.
The wind rushed past her ears, the sound of leaves rustling were so close to her ears and yet no leaves surrounded them.
"You can control sound with wind, sound waves can travel further or completely diminish depending on how you use it", the voice spoke and just as Emilia spoke those words Alexis heard Blair's voice in her head.
"Come on Alexis! I know it looks ridiculous but do it for me", the familiar girl with long shiny red hair groaned as she grasped the shorter girls arm. Her eyes were a bright green and her face adorned with as much freckles as stars in the galaxy.
"I'm not going to start waving my arms around like an idiot for you Blair", was Alexis' grounded reply, but as always her stubbornness was no match for Blair's and eventually she was outside waving her arms around like said idiot.
"Breath in and pull the wind as if you can see the strings it's made of" Blair said to which Alexis replied.
"I'm not supporting this new cult you're trying to start" she warned while Blair gave a frustrated sigh.
"No, you're not doing it right! Move to the right and then the left!" Alexis wanted to rip out her hair which was currently being mangled by the wind. The suddenly very strong wind.
She stopped her crazy arm gestures at the freezing wind. The wind calmed and came to an abrupt stop.
"God, talk about global warming", she frowned, glancing at Blair who stared at her with a strange expression. "What is it?" She asked, hoping she hadn't been recorded or anything.
She wanted to check Blair's snap story just in case.
"Nothing". Blair turned around, "let's go inside".
She walked ahead leaving a confused Alexis to catch up.
"Alexis! Pay attention!" Alexis' eyes blinked open, she had daydreamed off into that memory.
"Sorry!" She called, shaking her head of the strange thoughts that intruded her mind.
After that lesson she had gone straight to Agathus, ready to understand how things worked around here.
"Agathus?" She called the small green man, startling the little frame which seemed to mull over some documents. A pile actually. They all had wax closing the letter, pressed down by emblems. From what she had learned that meant they were from a aristocrat family.
"Alexis? What brings you here?" He asked looking a bit relieved to see her.
"Oh nothing important, just looking for something that might help me gather a good look on who supports which faction. It might help me understand how I can help", she drew closer to his desk and stared at the letters.
"I see. The second book on the left side of the third shelf over there. That contains all the latest updated information", Alexis furrowed her brows at his articulate directions and quickly found the book.
"I found it. If it's alright to ask, can I ask what those letters are about?" Alexis asked and Agathus sighed at the question.
"The nobles want to invite his highness for tea parties. All of them. It seems your match sparked some rumours and they want to confirm them", he confessed.
"Really? Let's go then, I could help Alastairs image improve!"
"It's not that simple". He gave an exaggerated sigh, "finish that book and then you'll understand".
Alexis decided he was right. She really knew nothing about this place and how things worked. So it might be best to read this book.
