"This is ridiculous! How could so many people be supporting the scumbag prince?" She was ready to tear the book to shreds along with her hair at the sheer frustration of it all.
Alastair's supports were zero to nothing or they were when he ascended the throne anyway. As of right now she knew he had the support of the Enflada's and the Wolfe dukedom. But that wasn't nearly enough to help him survive the Cold War of these factions. The other three dukedoms were the Silvers, Jewels and the Crotinas.
This meant his support was zero to nothing.
Alexis' mind kept recalling those letters, she knew at least one of them would be from the four dukedoms and she was fixed on attending one with Alastair.
'If they see him in person they should change their perspective' she thought with a hopeful smile and decided to ask the man in charge.
"Alastair?" She called out when she reached his office. The door opened to reveal Joshuas face, and he swung the door open.
"Good Morning Miss Fairy! You're quite the talk of every tea party thrown by nobles" he said, the twinkle in his eyes made it almost obvious he knew why she had come. It was only at times like these where she remembered he was a genius and not a science loving lunatic.
"Am I? Imagine how excited they'd be to see the real thing?" She questioned, indirectly getting her point across.
Alastair who worked at his desk, gave her a deadpanned glare and a sharp-.
"No".
It was as if he was back, the destroyer of dreams.
"Why not?" Alexis pouted at him.
'Why does her stupid face look so cute?' He didn't realise his sealed expression had somehow leaked his inner thoughts to Joshua.
"It might have an adverse affect", he replied stamping papers with much more speed compared to before.
"Or it might have a positive effect?" Alexis bartered.
"The key word here is 'might'".
"Well how would we know if you won't even give it a try?" Alastair placed his stamp in its holder and gave her a hard stare.
"Some things aren't meant to be tried", he replied. Alexis couldn't distinguish the look in his eyes that flittered so many different colours.
She couldn't reply, his words seemed much heavier than she would have thought a while ago. His beautiful red eyes that bore into her kept her speechless and focused at the same time. She knew he meant to convey something, but what was is?
"You'll only know that if you try it".
Her staring contest with Alastair ended with him letting out a deep sigh. She had won.
A grin was visible on her face.
"Is there an invitation from the Wolfe family?" She asked.
"There might be", he dolefully replied.
"Then we shall attend theirs. Adam can come along too and see his family", she suggested with a satisfied face.
"You and Adam have been close recently, haven't you?" Alastair said. His voice, again, was controlled not leaking a single emotion, but Joshua smiled as he caught on.
It wasn't true at all, though. Alexis and Adam had only met at very brief intervals. He was always doing something for Agathus and she was just going about her daily routine.
"Not really. He hasn't gotten any breaks from work so I thought it'd be nice for him. I also need to have a word with his mother", she added in embarrassment.
"With his mother? Is something wrong, Miss Angel?" A smirk appeared on Alastair's face wide as one can be and Alexis cringed at his words. Her face turning multiple shades of red as she shuddered.
"D-Don't call me that!"
"What should I call you, Miss Angel?"
"Anything but that!"
"Alright Dirt. The tea party is in two days, I'll notify Agathus to tell your dwarfs to prepare you for then", he chuckled.
Alexis felt strangely relieved at her old nickname, it was much better than all the embarrassing names she was hearing recently.
Alastair quickly went back to filing while Joshua began a series of questions. It was the usually strange ones and she mostly answered them all except for the one about her past lovers. She paused at that one.
"Past lovers?... there was one", she started and Alastair's head snapped up towards her causing her to flinch. "What the matter?" She asked in apprehension.
"Just surprised anybody would ever court you". And with that rude remark he went back to stamping through sheets.
Alexis, having felt a blow to her pride, decided to show Alastair exactly how popular she'd been.
"Well, I'll have you know that I had one and his name was Dimitri and we were in love!" She childishly explained.
"I see", Joshua replied, "are you still in a relationship with him?" He asked, interested.
'S-Still? That was back when I was a freshman in highschool! If we were still dating then we'd be together for about seven years now and anyway that bastard…' she felt annoyed at the old bad memory that resurfaced.
"No, we were young and it didn't last that long at all".
"Why was that?" He asked the dreaded question.
"Oh- erm- well… some boys aren't…"-
"Aren't what?"
"Very…" she felt uncomfortable sharing the words.
"Very?" The way Joshua persisted however, angered her enough to let it out.
"Faithful".
A snap was heard at that moment and Alexis and Joshua turned towards the sound. Alastair held half a stamp his hand, the other half lying across the sheet of paper beneath him.
"I see", Joshua turned back to her, ignoring Alastair, and continued, "does that affect your choice in potential suitors?"
"Of course!"
Another snap sounded the room and now the stamp was in three pieces. Alexis frowned at the blonde man before continuing.
"I've never trusted another man after that. They all start looking like him. Evil and unfaithful. Whispering fake promises. I can't imagine doing it again".
It was true. That moment when she had walked in on him holding hands with Jennifer, the pretty girl in her class, she had hated him. He had asked her out. And then two months in he's cheating on her.
'What a joke' she scoffed recalling her negative feelings. She didn't realise the stamp was in six pieces and Joshua was attempting to glue them back together.
