✿ Chapter Twenty Two

GEORDI'S POV

Sitting in the waiting room with Fred beside me, Nathann's family left the room to talk to the doctor privately.

This is all a prank, right? He's not gonna die, right?

The door creaked open and Nathann's mother looked very sad and yet, confused. She walked up to me, holding my hands as she glanced at me with her elderly, doe eyes. Her eyes were glistening with tears that she desperately held in.

"Geor... I-I've got something to tell you." She started,

"W-What is it? Is Nathann gonna survive? He's gonna survive, right?"

"Nathann... Nathann.... Nathann's... gone... Geor, he's gone... He's one of the stars now... Up there, watching us." She choked.

My stomach turned and my heart stung in pain as I felt myself become numb. My best friend... My one and only best friend... Died... And I didn't even get to say goodbye... I didn't get to hear his voice one... last... time.

"Please, Auntie! You're joking right?! Right?!"

"I'm so sorry, Geor... I'm so sorry... A-And I've got something else to tell you..." She sniffed, gently squeezing my hands,

"You... You saved him.." She said and I was confused.

How? He's dead now... How did I save him?

"You saved him... His Hanahaki disease was cured... Turns out, genuine love doesn't only mean romantic love, it also means the love of a true friend. You did everything you can to save him, even risked your own relationship to save him..." She explained,

"But... If I did save him... Why is he dead? He should be here with us."

"The doctors found out that not only did he have Hanahaki.... He also had brain tumor.... And that's what killed him... Because we failed to treat him... Because he didn't tell us..."

I was left confused... How? Why? Why hasn't he mentioned that he had such sickness? Why... Nathann why? If you told us... We could've saved you... You would've been here.... With us...

--- FLASHBACK (NATHANN'S POV)

"No. I don't believe you. I'm sorry to say this to you, Geor, after all, we were friends for a very long time but, leave me alone." I coldly stated before walking away, feeling his gaze locked on me as I walked further and further away from him.

My heart stung when I know that I hurt him with what I said. But this is for the best. Because if even if he had successfully saved me, I know I'll still die...

"Mr. Nathann Humbergs? Your diagnosis is finally finished. Are you ready?" The doctor asked as he sat behind his table, feeling the atmosphere turn cold,

"Y-Yes, doctor.. So... W-What is it?" I stammered, scared to find out what sickness I also have...

"Mr. Humbergs, you have brain tumor."

I didn't understand anything after that. All I can hear was ringing in my ears as I sat in front of the doctor, desperately wishing that this was all a dream.
