Nana: Chocolate

Being at the tail end of the group, I see Jessica ahead. We haven't talked since the day I came to her house, and she did my makeup. The eagerness to speak with her again and ask her how her week turned out and how did work go had been eating away at me.

She probably didn't want to speak with me since I'd friend-zoned her not once but twice. It probably did something to her ego, so she was avoiding me, and honestly, it kind of hurt. In the short time that Jessica and I became friends, I became comfortable with her.

I kept staring at the back of her head repeating in my head: Hey, turn around! Like we were telepathic.

Everyone was on the track stretching and I watched Jessica as she stretched, her grey shirt coming up above her belly button.

She made eye contact with me and I quickly looked away, pretending I was doing some leg stretches. I could imagine her wearing a cocky smirk. When I looked back at her, she was still staring at me and she had a cocky smirk on her face.

"FIVE LAPS! IF I SEE ANYONE WALKING YOU'LL BE GIVING A FAILING GRADE!" Coach yelled and blew their whistle.

A few students started off jogging, and I was one of them. I should focus on getting ready to run but I was busy trying to spot Jessica. I couldn't find her though she was ahead of everyone else at first. When I jogged by the steel metal bleachers, I heard someone go, "Psst!" I stopped and looked but didn't see anyone on the bleachers then I heard, "I'm under the bleachers come here quick before the coach sees you."

After running to the bleachers, I stepped underneath and found Jessica sitting on the green grass. She was smiling, sweat on her forehead. "Why are you under there?" I asked, sitting beside her.

"Running isn't my favorite activity." She said.

"Same here."

"I have a chocolate bar. Wanna eat it with me?" Jessica held up a pink foil bar. She broke it in half and handed me half.

"Thank you." I removed some of the foil from the chocolate and took a piece. "Have you been avoiding me?" I asked her.

Jessica didn't say anything at first which made me believe she had been until she said, "I just thought maybe you needed some space from me."

"Why would you think that?"

"You friend-zoned me not once but twice."

"But didn't you agree to be friends with me?"

"Yeah, I did. But.." She trailed off. "Forget it. I'm sorry if I made it seem like I was avoiding you." She took a bite of her chocolate and I broke another piece of mine and ate it.

"Sometimes the closest relationships start with a meaningful friendship," I said.

Jessica had stopped herself from taking a bite of her chocolate. She looked over at me. "What are you trying to say?"

I glanced over at her smiling. "Jessica, what do you think I'm trying to say?"

Yes, I, Nana was considering a relationship with this pretty girl. Maybe I shouldn't let someone's gender stop me from liking them romantically and things could happen naturally if we let them.

"Girls aren't on my list. but I wouldn't mind getting to know the one sitting beside me." I said. "So let's build our friendship which will hopefully lead to a long-lasting relationship?"

Jessica didn't even answer. She threw herself on top of me and hugged me. I laughed.

Maybe this could bloom into something beautiful.
