Nana: Pervert

Back in August, the seniors started a large vegetable garden to grow fresh vegetables. The school will give the vegetables to the local food bank and shelters. A few days out of the week seniors are chosen from different classes to help water the garden, pick weeds, and do whatever else needs to be done.

I had gloves on, pulling weeds and throwing them into a steel bucket beside me. I picked a few weeds and moved down. Pick more weeds and move down. Students ran around the garden playing instead of doing their part. There weren't any teachers to supervise us during this time. They figured since we are seniors we should be responsible enough to work in the garden alone.

Jessica had gone to fill the watering can, but it was taking her a while to come back. I stood up and stretched. I felt the back of my skirt get lifted followed by a male's voice saying, "You're wearing my little pony underwear, childish." He laughed.

I screamed, turning around to see who the pervert was but just as I did I was about to fall over into the garden. He grabbed my arm and saved me. I tried pushing him away from me. But his hold on my arm told me he wasn't planning on it. Behind him, Jessica stood, an annoyed expression on her pretty face. She left the watering can above his head and poured water on him.

"What the fuck was that for?" He shouted, letting go of my arm. He spun around to face Jessica. He backed up a bit at her height.

"For being a fucking pervert," Jessica said.

Jessica steps around him and grabs my hand, pulling me away. We were once far apart from him. She let go of my hand.

"Are you okay?" She looks me over.

What happened had me a bit shaken up, but seeing Jessica worried made me say, "I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" she asked. Stepping closer to me. The way she looked at me made me want to melt under her gaze. Why did someone so pretty, so perfect have to have a crush on me? Was her version broken?

I took off the garden hat I wore. My bangs stuck to my sweaty forehead. Jessica reached out and fixed my bangs and I immediately stepped back and wish I hadn't, after seeing the dejected look on her face.

"I'm sorry." Jessica drops her hand. "I should have asked before fixing your hair."

I shake my head, hiding my face behind my garden hat. "No, it's okay! It was so sudden that's all."

"Do you want to report him?"

"Huh?" I asked, lowering my garden hat.

"The guy that lifted your skirt. Do you want to report him?"

"No," I mumbled.

I didn't want to deal with answering questions and the blame gets put on me just because I'm a girl.

This time I did not react when Jessica patted me on the head. The gesture was comforting. "Are you sure?"

I nodded. Jessica said nothing else and followed behind her as she headed back toward the school building.

"Do you have any hobbies?" Jessica asked. She opened the door, and I walked into the cold building. The blast of air hitting my face felt amazing.

"No hobbies. I always wanted to try gardening as a hobby. Starting off with something small, like a small house plant." I said.

Jessica walked alongside me. We were heading to the garden room to sign out and head back to our classes.

"I know this is sudden, but would you like to come somewhere with me after school?" Jessica asked.

I jumped in front of her, bouncing on my toes. "Where? Will it be somewhere fun?"

She smiled down at me. "If you come with me, you'll see."

I pouted. I really wanted her to tell me where we would be visiting. But I agreed to go with her.

The excited squeal that left me made Jessica laugh. She brought us to a plant nursery after school. There were so many plants and Jessica said I could pick out anyone I wanted. A small jade plant caught my eye, and I fell in love with it.

"What should we name the plant?" I asked Jessica.

"Name it?" She laughed.

I nodded shapely. "Yes, do you have any suggestions?"

"Nope. What about you?"

"No. I guess we have to think of one."

"Let's think about it over ice cream." Jessica points at an ice cream shop across the street.

The ice cream was so cute with its doll theme. Even the servers wore cute uniforms and doll makeup. I did a brief dance in my seat as I enjoyed my vanilla bean ice cream. The jade plant sat in the middle of the table. My mind threw around names. It had to be something both Jessica and I would like.

"Honey!" I shouted.

Jessica choked on her float and some came out of her nose, too. I quickly grabbed napkins and leaned across the table, cleaning her nose. "Sorry," I mumbled. I sat back in my seat. "I want to name the plant, honey. Do you like it?"

Jessica smiled. "I like it. We should read up on how to care for honey. Don't want to kill our plant child."

"Who gets to take honey home?"

Jessica moved her straw around in the float while she spoke. "It's your plant, Nana."

"But you got it for me so it's only fair if we share the plant."

She smiled and leaned over the table a bit. It amazed me how her smile was enough to send my heart racing. "It's okay," Jessica said. "Take honey home with you. I'm not a plant person."

It made me a tiny bit sad that she said she wasn't a plant person. I really wanted to share honey with her.

"Hey." Jessica's voice grew soft. "If it's okay with you, I'll visit honey."

"Really?"

She nodded. "Yes, Nana, and on the days I can't visit, send me pictures of honey."

Jessica pulled out her phone and came to sit beside me. Jessica told me to grab honey, and I did. She moved in closer to me with the front camera open and took a picture of us while I held honey. Jessica smiled at the picture and showed me, and my stomach ached with butterflies.

We really look cute together.
