Chapter 19 - The Amerlyn Crystal Speaks!

[Isn't it obvious?] A different voice appeared in his head, though still emotionless, it spoke differently from the System. Less formal and all,

"What? Who is this?" Jamaal asked quickly, surprised by the voice in his head.

[I'm the Amerlyn Crystal Host, a branch of the Main System? Hasn't it told you about me?]

"Well... Yes, but I didn't expect you to have a voice, or speak to me..."

[Obviously, I'm going to speak to you! You're the boss's host! I could gain so many benefits from this.]

Jamaal let out a soft chuckle inwardly, gradually the shock leaving him. There was something strange though, despite the Amerlyn Crystal speaking so informally, there was no emotion in their voice.

"How do you know that? And..." Jamaal was interrupted by people behind him telling him to hurry up.

Glancing around, he realised where he was and quickly decided to end his conversation.

"Sorry... I'm going to have to go. Although it was nice talking to you."

[Wait! Who said you have to use the Amerlyn Crystal to talk to me? Well, You have to use it but still! You can get a portable one! Just give me ten compliments as payment.] The voice hurriedly said, causing the boy to smile.

"Sure. You smart subordinate of the System, you're proud and brave and kind, arrogant but funny and you still have to give me this portable crystal with the number of compliments I have just given you or else you will not have any 'benefits." He grinned inwardly.

[Kwah! How dare you! Fine!] The Amerlyn Crystal seemed to snort as a notification appeared on the Main System.

[Ding! The Amerlyn System has given you a portable Character Check Crystal! Please find it in your inventory!]

"Thanks," He laughed once more before saying goodbye, totally forgetting about the questioning he was going to do.

It wasn't that he forgot about the questioning, but rather, he couldn't do it publically. If that portable Character Check Crystal had any similarities with the huge one behind him, then it wouldn't be a good thing to be found with it.

After leaving the hallway, Jamaal went down the stairs he had climbed just a few minutes ago, looking around for Arnold who had runoff.

He continued walking around, looking at the stalls while waiting patiently, sighing.

"I should go and ask Amerlyn about my questions while I'm waiting for him." He looked around as he thought this, spotting an alleyway that seemed safe enough before quietly entering it.

"System? Bring out the Amerlyn Crystal Thingy."

[The Character Check Crystal?]

"Yes..."

[Complying...]

A crystal similar to the one in the town hall appeared in his hand, just less sparkly and magical when compared to its twin.

He glanced around once more, looking at the damp, cracked walls in the alleyway. Trash, laying around on the muddy ground, weeds growing on the sides of the alley.

"Amerlyn? You there?" Jamaal asked in his head, awaiting the reply he was waiting for

[Yes I am, you brat! I won't forget what you did before.]

The quick and seemingly angry reply from the monotonous System caused the teen to chuckle.

"Sure you won't, I've got to talk to you about something, what did you mean about me already knowing about the title?" The question he had been waiting to ask for the last ten minutes was about to be answered.

[Is it not obvious? You have survived the Overlord's wrath, well, play. Hence your title.

Oh and, I'm sure you know who the Overlord is, you have met him so many times right? That's what your memories say.] The Amerlyn System explained briefly.

"Wait. Yes, I know, but you can read my memories?!" Jamaal raised his brows in surprise.

[Of course, we are in your head so we can read your memories when having a wander.] This time, the Main System and the Amerlyn System spoke at the same time, leaving the boy speechless.

"Couldn't you have told me this earlier?" Jamaal asked the Main System, quite annoyed.

[You did not ask.] Was the unsurprising answer.

"Anyways, since you know of that... The figure, do you know who he is?"

[Permission Level of Host is too low.]

"Of course it is..." He groaned, getting frustrated at how he was getting barely any answers and yet more and more questions were piling up.

"I'll get a high enough permission level and ask all these questions." He muttered, glancing around at the dirty setting.

[Of course, you will,]

"You don't need to read my mind!" Although he was quite annoyed right now, he was glad that everything was calmer now, no goblins, no forest, just peace and an annoying System.

[But I wanted to.]

"Ok, that's enough you monotonous annoying robot! I won't talk to you for a bit now. How about that?!"

[H-Hey wait!] The Amerlyn Crystal quickly cried out, a bit too late though as the crystal in Jamaal's hand disappeared into his inventory.

"Good riddance." He mumbled, turning around to exit this stinking place.

"Hey, kid! Where are you going?" A drawn-out long, nasally voice came from ahead of him, causing Jamaal to look up.

A skinny, toothy elderly, looked at him as if he were some prey, a bone dagger in his hand.

"You haven't had dinner with me, nor said hello to me, you just came without an invitation! How dare you!" He cackled, glaring at the boy as he took a step forward with his old, weak-looking body.

"Now you got to pay me back! HEHEHE!"
