Ghost POV
I was sitting beside Phantom who was unconscious, Marksman was leaning against the wall looking at her too. Her face was so peaceful, something I missed so much. I put the back of hand and rubbed it gently against her cheeks.
"You know this may cause some trouble." said Marksman.
"I know." I replied.
"Javelin seemed sad and happy at the same time." said Marksman.
I know Javelin likes me, but I don't see her like that, she's just another comrade. She's also someone I can't lose. I can't lose anyone, not like last time.
"I'll confront her on my own time." said Ghost.
It was silent for a while, I could hear the group outside talking.
"Are you going to tell her after she wakes up?" asked Marksman,
"She has to know." I replied.
"That'll be so much for her to take in."
"Don't worry, I'll handle it."
Just then I heard a groan escape from Phantom's lips. She slowly opened her eyes and just looked at the ceiling for a few seconds before it widened. She immediately sat up but I grabbed her arm. She turned around and saw me and had a confused look.
"Where am I? Who are you?" she asked.
"Shit, I have my mask on." I thought.
"Right now you're in the infirmary." I replied. "You need to rest, we'll talk later."
"I had enough rest, I want to know who you are." she growled.
"Same old Emily." I thought.
I took off my helmet and slowly took off my mask. I looked up and all I saw on her face was pure shock. Her eyes began to water as she tried to say something but the words wouldn't come out.
"It's me." I said, I felt my eyes begin to water.
"A-A-Ajax." stammered Phantom.
"I missed you." I replied.
Tears began to fall down her cheeks as she saw me. And for the first time in years, I smiled, slightly. She hugged me and started bawling on my shoulder. After a few seconds, she let go and smiled.
"Marksman?" asked Phantom.
Marksman just waved, but on the inside I knew he was smiling too.
"How long, was I a titan." asked Phantom.
"Nearly a year." I replied.
Phantom thought about it, however, her eyes widened as if she remembered something.
"Recon....she was the one." she whispered.
"I know." I replied.
"How?"
"She showed herself during a mission." I replied.
"Oh. Oh yea, where's Aid?" asked Phantom.
I looked down as I began to remember how it all went down.
"He's...gone." I whispered.
Phantom just looked down and sighed.
"I'm sorry." said Phantom.
"No, it's my fault he's gone, I could have saved him." I added.
"Don't blame yourself. Tell me what happened." said Phantom.
"We were on the mission to destroy the underwater facility. Aid was badly wounded by an explosion near the end of the mission. The explosion destroyed the self destruction sequence, so one of us had to manually destroy it. I was gonna do it, after all, he had a family to go to. I got an escape pod ready for him but he pushed me in and closed the door. He sent me off and blew up the factory, finishing off the mission."
"He died a heroic death." said Phantom. "His memories will remembered, forever." said Phantom.
Marksman stepped infirmary came back in with Kit.
"Kit, this is Sergeant Major Phantom of Ghost team 116." said Marksman.
Kit immediately saluted to which Phantom was taken aback but saluted back and dropped it.
"Phantom, this is Sergeant Kit, Aid's younger brother." said Phantom.
Phantom eyes grew wide from the news she just learned of.
"You got a new team?" asked Phantom.
"Yea." I replied.
"Should I rally them up sir?" asked Marksman.
"No, we'll do that tomorrow." I said.
"Sir?" questioned Phantom.
"Oh, he's a captain now." said Kit.
"No way." chuckled Phantom.
"Seriously?" I asked.
Phantom smiled and got off the bed.
"Wait, you need rest now." I said.
"I'm fine, just bring me my clothes." said Phantom.
Eren's POV
After Kit was called into the infirmary, we were ordered to go to our dorms and just relax there. I was walking with Annie in the back of the group.
"I noticed that I haven't transformed since reclaiming Trost." I said.
"I haven't shifted since the fall of..." trailed of Annie.
I knew why she trailed off as I thought remembered the truth behind the breach of wall Maria.
"Hey, umm so, do you want to go back to that place we went to in the woods." I quickly said, trying to change the subject.
"Sure, let's go right now."
We left the group and headed towards the woods, we later arrived at the place we sat with the lake underneath us. We sat down next to each other, but I noticed that Annie was a bit closer than usual. Not that I didn't like it, it was just unusual. I had to admit that I liked Annie ever since training, training was the only time I got to get close with her, but now, we get to interact a lot more often.
"I'm sorry Eren." whispered Annie.
"Huh?" I was confused in what she just said.
"For leading those titans into Shiganshina district, for your mother, it's all my fault" said Annie.
Part of me wanted to comfort her, forgive her and to talk things out, but the other wanted me to yell at her, making her feel weak.
"I forgive you Annie."
"I don't deserve it." replied Annie. "The only thing I deserve is death."
"Don't say that! You're not the only one who did something wrong." I said.
"Eren, whatever you did, it's nothing compared to what I did." said Annie.
"But that doesn't make you any different!" I said raising my voice a bit.
Annie looked at me, "When you figured out that me, Reiner and Bertholdt were the ones who broke down the wall, did our reputation go down?"
Her question threw me off balance. I didn't know, honestly, it barely did.
"Not that much, after seeing you with your dad, I understood." I answered.
I looked at Annie who had her head down, I began to notice, tears drop from her face.
"Hey, Annie don't cry." I said.
I hugged her and brought her closer to me. I felt arms slowly wrap around my waist and tears beginning to wet my uniform, but that didn't matter.
Annie's POV
What am I doing? I can't show Eren my weak side, I wanted to hide from him badly.
To be honest, I liked him, ever since the day Reiner forced him to spar with me. But do I deserve him, especially after ruining is life. Not just his life, but all of those near wall Maria.
I felt comfort while being with him. I wish this moment can just last forever.
"Annie, not matter who you were, or what you did, you decided to take the right path right now. You were forced into that kind of mission believing what you were doing was the right thing." whispered Eren. "What matters right now is who you are right now."
I could feel more tears escape my eyes after hearing this.
"And... I always liked you... since training." whispered Eren.
My eyes widened from hearing it.
"Am I dreaming?" I thought.
I looked up at him with my tearful eyes and saw his smile that always gets me.
"So do I." I whispered back.
Eren seemed shocked by my answer but smiled and hugged me tightly.
"I believe I ordered you to go back to your dorms." said I voice behind us.
I jumped up into the air and turned around seeing Captain Ghost standing there with his arms crossed.
"Sorry sir we were just about to go." said Eren quickly getting up.
Before we left, Ghost stopped us.
"Be up by 0700 hours." said Ghost.
"Yes sir." replied Eren.
"If one of your friends isn't up by that time, then you'll be the one responsible for it." continued Ghost.
"Understood sir." said Eren
"And more thing." said Ghost. "You'll all be shifting tomorrow so be prepared."
We all nodded and hurried towards our dorms. We arrived at our dorms and just as I was about to enter my room Eren called out to me.
"So uhmmm Annie, are we a, you know, a thing?" asked Eren.
I smiled and answered back with a
"Yea, we are."
