-A CRIME
Samuel turned up with two coffees and a few snack bars balanced across his wobbling hands. He was woken at 2 am, actually he was called from out of bed. Last night his head had been spinning. When he got back into the undercover van all eyes had been on him. He told the information and they were happy but they still scolded him for breaking his earpiece. So when he got home it was 12:30 and he was grumpy. He threw off his suit and shoved on a huge pastel jumper his sister had left him and pulled the strings to act as blinds as he didn't want to get up and actually close them. For that time all he could think of was that he had twenty four hours to go and see Daniel Hensen and he wasn't sure if he could.
He was shoved out of thought however when his partner rang. He put on some blue jeans and black ankle boots and frankly didn't give a shit about what was going on.
Getting there hadn't been a warm welcome either. A familiar officer raised the tape so he could walk through. As he passed through the scene, getting blinded by the sirens lights and smelling the dull smell of the Thames beside them, he saw Yates talking to non other than Detective Hughes.
Detective Hughes was the god of all police. He was a middle aged guy, old fashioned sense of style, had a musky scent, smokers voice and the intuition of a non human being.
"That's for me I'm guessing?" He asked as Sam neared. They were partners in the force. Samuel wanted to be a Detective and Hughes didn't want a fuss, so things tended to work out. Samuel held out the coffee which Hughes accepted. Before Hughes took a sip he looked at Sam. "that's hot chocolate." He said regarding Sam's beverage. Samuel was pretty much used to his wizardry so he just shrugged. "You want me to drink black coffee and smoke like you too?" Hughes chuckled. "Live fast die young, that's what I always say. This poor sod did the same. A lung disease, dropped dead in the street but that old bag is over there raving about it being a murder but the evidence isn't in our 'jurisdiction' so we have to 'trust him' you know what I always say Samuel?" Hughes was the only one who called him by that name. "Never trust a spy... but I don't think Yates is a spy he wouldn't be able to chase a rock." Hugh choked on the coffee. "What's got you in such a good mood?" He asked, mopping himself up. "Nothing just that task force thing." Hughes nodded and looked him up and down. "Need you to grab dinner for the wife."
"Can't." He said without missing a beat. "What? You got better things to do?" He laughed. Sam blushed. "I have to meet someone." He thought if he kept it vague he wouldn't push. "I see. You better go home and get ready then."
"But-"
"If Yates is crying murder then let him. I'll give him the damn case so you leave now so I have a reason to leave." Sam nodded and left without question. It was time to get ready for the meeting he'd sentenced himself to.
-A CASE FILE
Samuel had captured the attention of a high ranking Mafia member and he was very aware of it. When Daniel had spotted the softly spoken angel all he wanted to do was corrupt it and Samuel was not going to be made aware of that.
When Samuel arrived at the Ritz he walked up to the front desk to a smiling receptionist. She looked down at the blonde. He had chosen to wear his light brown detective jacket with a white top and blue jeans, quite casual, what she didn't observe was the gun in its holster and badge in his pocket. "I'm here to see a Daniel Hansen." He inquired. The woman was visually shocked. "May- may I ask for your name." Her voice trembled. She must have known who he was and she was afraid. "Samuel Mason-." Sam realised he had never told Daniel his name. He was about to explain more but two tall men in black suits with hands on something in their waist belt came and took an arm each. Samuel looked at the receptionist for help but she was looking away. "I hope you enjoy your time here." She half whispered as if on a record. Sam was about to yell when his mouth was covered by a cloth that smelt of chemicals. His head fell back, limbs dropped and then, darkness.
&-&-&-&-&-&-&-&-&
Sam woke to the sounds of a piano and the clatter of cutlery. When he opened his eyes he saw a gramophone playing a familiar tune he couldn't quite place and a long fringed Daniel Hansen laying over an armchair with a folder in one hand and a fork picking at a now empty plate in th other. He clicked his fingers and one of the men from earlier appeared. Sam sat up quickly by his appearance and put his hand to his waist. There was nothing there.... THERE WAS NOTHING THERE. "Don't worry he won't harm you." Daniel's toneless voice rang out.
Sam relaxed and sat straight on the sofa he was on. It was nice and comfy but never mind the pleasant decorations when this is going on. "How did you know my name?" Sam asked. Daniel sighed and stood with his file. "Samuel Mason, twenty two, blue eyes, yada yada yada, early acceptance into the academy, yada yada yada, June eighth added to mission Alpha-2-capture." He slammed the file shut causing Sam to jump. "So Samuel." He emphasised which made Sam shiver underneath his coat. "It seems your a bigger person of interest then I originally thought." Sam mentally shook himself. "That information shouldn't even be on my file- how did you get my file?" Sam snapped. Daniel didn't like his tone. He stepped forward, bringing out a gun and pointing it at Samuel's temple. "I am the second most important person in this world and you want to ask how I got the file of some wanna be detective?" Sam was triggered. Luckily for him among that yada yada yada was top of his martial arts class. He grabbed the barrel of the gun, moved his head out of the way then punched Dan's hand. Daniel recoiled for a second, accidentally giving Samuel the gun. "You little-." Dan easily knocked the gun from Sam's hand, sending it across the room and hooked his leg around his, pushing him back so he was pinning Sam against the sofa.
They both breathed rapidly as they caught their breath. "I'm a detective." Samuel breathed. Dan pushed himself back off of him. "Whatever you say." He got a cushion to the face for the remark. "Dinner?" He inquired, shoving the cushion to the floor. "Sure."
DINNER WITH A KILLER
The restaurant was empty and not by accident. Daniel had ordered an expensive Red Wine, Sam got a water. Daniel ordered tournedos of beef, Sam had beef Tartare (a first course). Then silence.
"Have you killed?" Samuel asked suddenly. Daniel pondered on it. "Today? Not much." Sam gulped. "That makes you nervous?" Dan observed. "I'm not used to being around such murder." Daniel scoffed. "Oh yeah I bet a murder detective isn't quite used to talking about it." He laughed. Sam turned red from embarrassment and Daniel stopped. He stared in wonder at the colour so easily taking over his cheeks and nose. Sam looked up and saw the smile. "What?" He asked with a giggle. Daniel raised his eyebrows and looked away. "Nothing." He murmured biting on his lip. "No tell me." Sam begged, he even lightly grabbed Daniel's arm that lay on the table. Daniel laughed and placed said hand over the back of Samuel's chair. "You fluster so easily, it's... cute." Samuel looked down with a smile, his ears turning a bright red. "I'm not cute... I could arrest you." He said still smiling. Daniel chuckled. "Sure you would." Sam elbowed him in the gut. "I could if I wanted to!" He defended. Daniel got close to his ear. "Then do it." He whispered huskily. Samuel's breath hitched. He looked up into Daniel's dark brown eyes. "I-"
He couldn't finish because Daniel had taken his jaw in his hand and kissed him. Sam threw his hands up to stop him but as Daniel deepened the kiss so he put them around his neck instead, his fingers knitting with the overgrown two block haircut he had just gotten cut.
Samuel's attention however got pulled away as plates were set down next to them. Daniel didn't seem bothered by it but Samuel went bright red and sat back in his chair clearing his throat. Daniel sat back slowly with a smug smile. "Samuel." He sang. "Mm?"
"Give me your phone." Sam reached into his pocket and passed it over before diving into his expensive dish. He had never had anything so fancy. When you were on call it was Mac Donald, well now they have deliveroo but still take out. Daniel passed back his phone and Samuel looked at it suspiciously. "Spyware?"
"My number." He responded. Sam looked down at it. "That's not your number- oh." It was his personal number. Samuel went red again. "Only 4 people have that number." Daniel explained. Sam knew that, that's why he was smiling. "By the way there's a group from the Chisaka Dynasty coming to London tomorrow. I'll text you their flight details." Samuel choked. "Wha- what?" He said between coughs. Daniel shrugged. "What are they here for?" He asked. "They want to bring a new drug in that'll be detrimental to my people- I mean all citizens." He explained. "Thank you." Sam said. Daniel gave him a look. "Why are you thanking me?"
"Because you've saved lives?"
"Oh. That's fine." Sam nudged him again, playfully this time.
They talked some more and finished their meals then it was whisked away. On their way out Daniel caught his wrist. "How about desert?" He asked with an eyebrow raised. "But we just left." Daniel tilted his head. "Oh!" Samuel turned red again. "I- I think- yes." He said awkwardly. Daniel took his hand and they left to the lift for Samuel's first night at the Ritz.
