Wendel the Guildmaster and class choice

In a regular-looking house near the outskirts of Irondale sat two humans in the living room on one of the couches and across on a secondary couch sat a halfling that was the guild master of the Adventurer's guild in Irondale and the guildhall was, for now, his own home.

"So how can I help you two? Are you here to complete a quest, start a quest, or register with the guild?" Wendel asks getting straight to the point

"I am already registered, but this one needs to be registered by the guild" Dike says as he gestures to Mike

Wendel looks at Mike before he takes out a parchment of paper from his pocket and after smoothing out the folded parchment he takes out a quill and ink bottle from a desk nearby.

"Now then name," Wendel asks as his hand hovers over the parchment with the quill in hand

"Michael Bridlington"

Wendel jots that down looks at Mike and then continues to write more stuff down as he continuously looks at Mike and then back down to the paper repeatedly.

"Um, what else are you writing down?" Mike cannot help but ask

"General description of you" Wendel replies as he continues to write

"Everyone has their description written down for security purposes of the guild, those that cause trouble can be found out easily with this," Dike explains

"Exactly," Wendel affirms

He dips the quill back into the ink bottle before drawing an image of Mike. After a few minutes, Wendel puts down the quill and now at the bottom of the paper, there is a very lifelike picture of Mike which was very well done.

"Alright, just a few more bits of information, where were you born, hold old you are, what class you are you going to register within the guild, and I need the required registration fee," Wendel says as he picks the quill up again

"I am 17, I do not know where I was born, and can you please tell me what classes I can register as?"

Wendel writes down the information that Mike gave him before he puts down the quill and excuses himself for a moment before leaving the room. A few minutes later he re-enters the room with a small booklet which he hands to Mike. Opening up the booklet Mike sees that he cannot read the contents of the booklet.

"Heya big bro you want some help reading that?" A feminine voice sounds out in Mike's head

Startled by the voice Alex jolts a bit startling Dike and Wendel as it was unexpected.

"Oh sorry just did not think that there would be this many options. Also, Dike are you alright if I put my class as something other than Wizard?" Mike says trying to give them a reason

"Well I don't mind if you choose your class to be something else besides, Wizardry is something that I will still teach you regardless just make sure that it is not a class with a bad reputation like a necromancer or something," Dike says

Mike turns back to the booklet and tries to figure out how to talk with whatever was in his head.

"Hey um... bro what are you trying to do?" the voice says as Mike looks like he is concentrating very hard on something that his face is slightly going red

"Um... can I talk to you through my mind?" Mike asks low enough as to not be heard by the two other people in the room

"Oh, sure you can one second!"

A second later Mike feels like some sort of burden was added onto his mind which is slightly uncomfortable to him.

'Does this work?' Mike asks now in his head

"Yep I can hear you coming in loud and clear," the voice says

'Who are you?' Mike first asks

"It's me, dummy," The voice responds expecting to know who was talking to him

'Seriously who are you?'

"..."

'...'

"It's me, Abbey you bought me," The voice says

'I never bought a girl?'

"Not in that way you idiot!" The voice shouts at him giving Mike a headache

"You bought me from the system and I am now your personal A.I. assistant alright"

'Oh it is you'

"Of course who else would it be?"

'Mindflayer [1], succubus[2], or some monster trying to kill me'

"..."

'What you can never be too careful, especially in a fantasy world'

"I am going to ignore that for now so you want help reading the booklet or not?"

'Yes please'

"Alright the booklet you are holding is saying how there are three main classes to choose from in this world. They are a fighter, thief, wizard, and then there is a section for special cases." Abbey explains

"These classes have different variations of the original three of a fighter, thief, and wizard. For example, instead of being in the fighter class, you can instead choose to be identified as a berserker since they are similar. You get what I am saying?"

'Kinda. So you are saying that classes are not limited to just these three classes but because there are too many classes out there in the world they are just put under the corresponding main class that is similar to them'

"Exactly as expected of my big bro," Abbey says

'What about the special cases section?'

"Oh... it says that those are classes that do not fall under any of the big three or just need special requirements to actually apply for them to be recognized by the guilds," Abbey says

'Is there any class in the booklet that would be the best for me?'

"Not that I can see in the booklet but if I go through your memories I..." Abbey stops speaking for a bit which makes Mike nervous as she said she was going through his memories

'Um... everything alright Abbey' Mike asks a bit concerned about what she found

"Y-yeah everything is fine just fine! Well the most interesting class that I can see would be the Learner class" Trying to hide her embarrassment at what she found when delving a bit into his memories

'Learner class, what exactly is that?'

"Like the name suggests it is when someone decides to take on the class of learning other class skills, techniques, and other stuff" Abbey replies

'That actually seems to be perfect for me'

"It kind of is but the requirements for this class are pretty high"

'What are they?'

"Anyone who tries to become a learner must be a race that will live a long time, must pass a test administered by others of the Learner class, and..."

'And what?'

"Pay a fee of 10,000 gold coins to be accepted"

Mike's ears or mind in this case heard what Abbey said but he was still processing what he heard.

'Did I hear you correctly or are you reading that thing wrong'

"Nope that is what it says" Abbey replies

'Great... just great'

Mike was dead broke because after he was released from prison the guards there took all his money as a recuperation fee for holding him in jail for a day. Even then Mike did not have enough gold as he had about 9 pieces then. So he turns his head in real life over to look at Dike, flashing a wide and what he assumed to be a charming smile at him Mike asks.

"So I can choose any class I wish to right?"

"Sure pick whichever class you want as long as it is not too craz-"

"I choose the Learner class then" Mike hurriedly interrupts Dike

Hearing this they both look at Mike with wide eyes.

"Are you sure that is the class you want to choose?" Wendel asks

"Yep I believe that is the class for me," Mike says with confidence

"Well the next testing for the Learners is in about 2 years from now in the Capital, but you are not from a race that lives long are you?" Wendel asks

"No, I am just a human but I bet that my age won't matter that much"

"Actually it will, most of the learners there are from the long-living races such as the elves, dwarves, and other such races. I am afraid they won't even glance at you unless you get recommended by someone " Wendel says while shaking his head

"Well how about this if I can prove to you that I should be accepted by the learners could you write me a letter of recommendation?" Mike proposes

"Hmm... I highly doubt you can prove me otherwise but... sure I will play along, but how will we determine that you are able to do this?" Wendel asks

"Simply give me some sort of book, spell, technique, or something and I will be able to perform it easily"

"Alright, then I guess I should get out a level 9 spell that I have in my pocket for you huh?" Wendel comments sarcastically

"I only know how to cast cantrips right now," Mike says ignoring the obvious sarcasm

"... Alright then wait here for a moment," Wendel says as he gets up and leaves the room before coming back a few moments later with a large brown leather-bound book in hand.

"Flip through all the pages within a minute and then recite everything word for word. I will follow along to see how well you claim to be" Wendel says as he tosses the book into Mike's hands

'Hey Abbey, can you help me out with this?'

"Sure I can this is easy" She replies

"Alright whenev-"

"Hold on Micheal are you sure you can do this?" Dike asks worriedly that Mike has taken something like a mind-altering substance or just got beat up too badly back in the alley

"Yep I can do this so don't worry" Mike replies as he opens the book and begins flipping through the pages

'You getting this Abbey?'

"Yep I am getting all of it" she replies

'Oh by the way I won't be saying it word for word I still need to mess up a bit to make it seem like I am not a prodigy or have read this book before'

"Fair enough bro"

After the time given Mike puts down the book and prepares to recite the contents of the book but when Abbey speaks the first line he realizes a problem.

"Day 1:

I was just appointed the new headmaster of the guild and let be honest it sucks so far. My predecessor burned through all the funds of the guild on well... women, drinks, and useless items that he put in his house. Also if things could not get any worse the old guildhall was burned down by some drunkard..." Abbey starts to read what Mike was now assuming to be Wendel's diary from when he started running the guild

'Abbey stop!'

"Ah! Okay don't yell at me to get my attention okay"

'Alright sorry just I feel wrong reading this guys diary'

"Well you want to become a Learner right the only way to do that is by reading the book that Wendel gave you and this is the best book for that since it is his own personal book so there should be no way that you have read it before," Abbey says

'Fair point'

"Alright, here I go. Day 1: I was just appointed the new headmaster of the guild and let be honest it sucks so far. My predecessor burned through all the funds of the guild on well... women, drinks, and useless items that he put in his house. Also if things could not get any worse the old guildhall was burned down by some drunkar-" Mike starts off

"Stop!" Wendel shouts interrupting Mike before he continued any further

"You stop fooling around and get the actual book that I meant for him to read," Wendel says while he points his finger at the book

To Mike's surprise, the book that he placed on his legs once he was done reading starts to float upwards. The book trembles a bit before it changes from the brown leather color to a red leather color before it lands once more in Mike's lap. Mike is confused and startled by what this thing is while Dike looks at the book with a bit of surprise.

"Um... Mr. Wendel, what is this thing?" Mike asks as he inspects the book by turning it around

"First off just call me Wendel I am not married and second that is my familiar" Wendel replies to Mikes inquiry

"What is it called?"

"That Micheal is a very rare familiar called a Morpheus blob" Dike answers as he continues to look at the book in intrigue

"You are correct on that mister Wizard," Wendel says

"A Morpheus blob is a being with great intelligence that can take on the form of almost anything it sees, but not their properties and as a result, their combat power is almost nothing and they are pretty rare to find in the wild or on another plane" Wendel explains to Mike

"And you are using it to act as a book?" Mike asks

"Erm... yes it has been keeping the guild records inside of it as well as other things..." Wendel says embarrassed at how Mike had read through that

"Okay well then let's try this again then," Mike says as he opens up the Morpheus blob again
