the rays of sunlight hit luna's eyes, making her open them forcefully.
she groaned as she opened her eyes. exhaustion took over her, making it difficult to sit up. she rubbed her eyes as she sits up. her eyes automatically shifts to the piece she was completing last night. alas, her working whole night wasn't in vain, it was all worth it.
her lips curved upwards, looking at her remake of 'the starry night' by van gogh. an artist she liked since she was twelve. but that smile of her lasted only for 0.5 seconds as she gets up and looks in the mirror.
all she could see was a mess. a brunette girl with dark bags under her eyes. she couldn't loathe herself more. the more she stared into the mirror, the more flaws she could count. infinite. she couldn't count them. she removed her stare with an annoyed expression because she couldn't bare it.
she wearily sighed as she gets ready and makes her way to the kitchen. she was alone, like she always was. father left mother when she was seven. mother was a drunkard and a drug addict, fights constantly and spends nights who knows where. luna could see why he left her mother. she was crazy. or maybe that's how she likes to think.
luna opens the refrigerator and takes a handful of berries and makes her way to her school.
it's the first day of her last year of highschool. excitement would be the completely wrong word to describe her feelings. more like tired. but she was holding on to the thread of the will to live, even if it was the last thread, she wasn't willing to let it go.
she makes it to the hallway, seeing faces, blurred to be exact but everyone was loud, happiness, excited vibes coming out of them. she sighs as she wished to feel all of that but couldn't. life wouldn't let her.
and there, in the middle of the crowd of loud unknown teenagers laughing, talking, living, she could recognize two faces which weren't blurred out, her friends. delilah and florence, whom everyone called ,'flora' .
they both came, smiling brightly at her, like the sun. oh, how she wished she could dissolve herself into their bodies just to escape her own.
"you came earlier than expected." flora said as her eyes were sparkling bright with the excitement to see luna. luna stared into her eyes for a moment wondering if her eyes ever held half of the sparkle flora's eyes do.
"yeah couldn't sleep at night." luna answered as she closed the locker.
"painting? again?" delilah shook her head.
"let her be, it's probably the only thing keeping her alive." flora defended her friend.
soon after the bell rung and it was a chaotic hallway now. everyone rushing to their classes, specially the freshmen, pushing past everyone. it made luna angry so much, she became one of them, pushing her way to her class, alongside with her friends.
reaching the class she made her way to the window seat, where she felt most comfortable. her friends chose seats near her. she was taking out her pencils when we heard a burst of deep, loud laughter and she annoyingly moved her eyes to the person laughing like a madman.
her heart dropped as her eyes widened in shock of whom she saw. she immediately coughed and a petal fall from her mouth.
he's back.
