Chapter*Twenty-One:Change of Heart

Devanie's POV

__________________________________________________________________________________

After some work in the library, Pryer managed to drag me to an arcade, while I stared at him with a bored face. Arcades were fun and all, but the most you can get out of them were pencils and silly bracelets from the prize area.

"I don't really like arcades." I said and he swung his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close." Come on Devie do this for me and my hopeless future." He said sounding a little too proud.

"Fine we can play a few, but I have to get home after that." He acted like he didn't hear what I said and pulled me towards an old street fighter game, that was apparently still running. I had beaten him more than twice and he was getting frustrated."I quit let's play a racing game or something." He said angrily and I laughed at him amused, "You act like I won't win that too."

After many arcade games and many losses and wins from Pryer, it was finally getting dark outside."I never knew you were this good at arcade games." He said and folded his arms as we walked to his car."There's a lot of things you have yet to know." I said as I started to walk ahead of him.

"The princess's son is my nephew." He stared at me in shock."There's no way, the princesses' son is your nephew." I nodded as I watched him freak out."It's all true, just like it's true that I deeply despise Aurora." I said as I folded my arms. We made it to his car and he opened the passenger's seat for me."Don't worry, from the way I see it she won't be back for a while."

"Why's that?"

"She's just disappeared and I don't know when she'll turn up again." He said and his face looked said. He adjusted himself in his seat and began to drive the opposite way from my house."Where are we going?" I asked him as I watched him drive."I want to give you something." He said and we eventually pulled into the long driveway of his house. I got out of the car to follow him inside."Wait here." He said before slipping inside swiftly. I waited in front of his house patiently.

"Where is he?" I said as I continued to study the outside of his house with his house. Suddenly an all-black car pulled up from behind me. I stepped back to see a tall man step out of the car. His hands were behind his back and he looked angry. It was Pryer's dad, the one man I wished to never see again.

"Your name is Devanie correct?" He said and I looked at him blankly. Rather than responding I just stared at him with a scared expression.

"Ms. Devanie I want to apologize."

My eyes widened. He wanted to apologize? I looked around to see if he was really talking to me. Suddenly the front of Pryer's house swung open. Pyer ran outside and stood in front of me."Stay away from Devie." Pryer said and I patted him on his shoulder."Pryer, it's okay he said he wants to apologize." Pryer looked back at me with worried eyes.

"He wants to apologize?" He looked back at his dad angrily. Suddenly another door opened from his dad's car. This time the same woman I saw last stepped out of the car. Pryer's expression softened."Mom?" Pryer said and watched the woman with closed eyes.

"I would like to apologize for the way I've been treating you and your love life, I've realized I've been in the wrong." His dad said and Pryer looked at his mom as if he wanted to confirm what he just says."I want to apologize also, I haven't been able to protect you from him," She said as she eyed Pryer's dad."I've decided to set myself free, I will always be your mother and I will visit as possible, you can also visit me when you want." She said and I felt Pryer's breathing become heavy. I rubbed his back with my hand. I had no idea what to say. I couldn't find the right words.

Pryer looked at his dad. He looked as if he didn't want to believe him."I've decided that I'm going to go to therapy to fix whatever is wrong, so you won't be seeing me for a while." His dad said and his expression looked sad. Pryer looked at his mom then at me. Pryer's mom noticed me and smiled."You must be Devanie." She said as she moved towards me.

Pryer moved out of the way, but he still stuck close."Please take care of my boy, he has a lot he's been going through so look out for him." She says as she smiled warmly. Her eyes began to tear and suddenly she pulled me into a hug."I looked at Pryer over her shoulder and he looked relieved.

"She looked at Pryer warmly. Come visit me sometime alright?" She said as she pulled him in for a hug."If you hurt Devanie in any way you'll hear from me." She said as she playfully lifted her fist to Pryer's face."Don't worry I would never do that." I smiled at him.

He looked so happy.

I looked at Pryer's dad to see his expression he looked blank. He looked like he was in deep thought."Have you really changed?" He said as he looked to his dad. He only nodded his head."It's hard to believe, but your mother has convinced me, I'm going to leave and she's getting a divorce, it'll be better without." He said and I felt a teaspoon of sadness.

"Then you better hurry while you're at it," Pryer said and turned his back to him. I turn my head to watch Pryer's dad walk to his car with his head low."Where will you go?" Pryer asked as he looked at his mom worriedly. She laughed when saw his face, "I'll be living in Miami from now on, so I won't be in Westwood, California anymore." Although he looked sad Pryer nodded his head.

"I'll make sure he visits." I said and smiled at her she nodded her head, please of my words."Well, I'm off, take care of each other alright?" Pryer laughed slightly, "Don't worry I will." He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me closer towards him.

We watched as Pryer's mom climbed into the car with his dad. Soon the car pulled out of the long driveway and they disappeared into the street.

"Are you feeling okay?" I said as I looked up to Pryer. He wore a calm expression. He looked relieved."I'll be okay as long as you're next to me." He then handed me a box he's been holding since he walked outside. I looked at him with my eyes squinted. When I opened the box it was a bracelet with a yellow sunflower on it.

"I hope that you'll stay with me Devie."

"I will."
