Eveline

Alistor and I had our new assignment- to find the Blood Moon ban of mercenaries in the lower city and apprehend them since we had already begun the work. We are also in charge of finding the Keltcher and giving the list of names directly to the king. I was more worried about the second part of our mission than the first. Would he believe me about Maverick when the time came or not?

Alistor had both been given peasant clothes and pendants with a small, silver tag in the center claiming our status of "Dirty Blood". Sasha had told me long ago that the status really held no weight in the lower city so at least there wasn't that to worry about. We just had the worry of the Keltcher and finding somewhere to stay.

"Eve, are you alright?" he asked, cupping my chin as I packed.

I looked up at him.

"Yeah," I said, smoothing my bangs out of my face. "Why?"

He smiled worriedly. "Just your expression."

I stood on my tiptoes and kissed him gently. "I'm fine."

He pulled me against him, gently moving my hair out of my face. "Eve?"

I sighed, relaxing into him. "I'm just worried. Some of them may recognize us and…"

"We'll be fine," he whispered, kissing the top of my head. "Alright?"

I nodded, but part of my brain nagged at me. With my half angel gene, I'd be a walking target. We wouldn't have my status to save us and wouldn't have the guardian title to protect us. That part scared me for it could go one of two ways in the lower city.

He tilted my head to look up at him. Oh, those eyes. How had I ever seen them as cold ice?

"Eve, I will protect you from any threat, alright? I'm your dragon and I protect what's mine," he said gently with a slight amount of possessiveness to his voice.

His? I had never heard him refer me to as his. It brought a flush to my cheeks.

"Thank you."
