Be Careful What You Wish For

Adam and Felix found themselves falling from the sky.

"Aw man. How many times is this going to happen to me?" [Adam]

As he stared at the rapidly approaching ground, Adam could hear Felix yelling at him. Though, most of it was drowned out by the rushing wind.

"Adam! Use your-! to-! tum!" [Felix]

Adam couldn't understand a word.

"...What?!" [Adam]

"Use-! Ity-! To-! Mo-!" [Felix]

The second attempt was even worse. Adam motioned towards his ears.

"I! Can't! Hear! You!" [Adam]

"...What?!" [Felix]

Now it was his turn to act deaf. Seeing as this was going nowhere, Felix used his warp to get closer to Adam.

"Can! You! Hear! me?!" [Felix]

"Kind of?!" [Adam]

Felix grabbed Adam and pulled him close.

"Can you hear me, you stupid sack of shit?!" [Felix]

The insults slipped out on its own from his frustration.

"I can, you disgusting asswipe!" [Adam]

Adam returned the favor.

"Use your ability to counter our momentum!" [Felix]

"Okay!" [Adam]

Reaching out below, Adam activated Implode several times over in order to slow themselves down. It was a very rough method, but it worked. They landed with a loud thud, in a state they considered unharmed.

"Oof… That did a number on my knees." [Felix]

"Why did you go for a superhero landing?" [Adam]

Felix dropped down and laid on his back.

"I thought it would be cool." [Felix]

"Fair enough." [Adam]

Now that they were safely on the ground, Adam observed his surroundings. From what he could tell, they were in the middle of a grassy plain.

("Huh? I think I see some buildings over there.") [Adam]

Squinting his eyes, Adam spotted a few structures in the distance. They looked crude compared to what he was used to. It somehow reminded him of the run-down church he and Orion fought in.

"Adam, Felix. Can you hear me?" [???]

A familiar voice echoed within the two's skulls. It wasn't very surprising to Adam since he was used to hearing Krino and Astos bicker, but Felix was a bit shocked.

"...Va'al?" [Adam]

"Ah, it appears the telepathic link was successful. That's good. Have you two reached your destination?" [Va'al]

"If the destination is on the ground, sure." [Adam]

"Then all is well. I will now assign you a task for the two of you, in which you must complete before returning." [Va'al]

"And that is?" [Felix]

"Allow me to explain your current circumstances. I've placed you on the planet known as Ashtal, one controlled by many major gods." [Va'al]

"Gods? Like, actual gods or the nickname like martial god type nickname?" [Adam]

There was silence.

"He means like in those comics my brother owns." [Felix]

"...I see. In that case, they are "gods gods" as you call it. They have complete command over whatever element they control. They've put their hand on this world to control even the very DNA of every creature to exist here. They are very peculiar so try not to draw their attention." [Va'al]

"I'll try." [Adam]

("I don't want another Astos situation.") [Adam]

Knowing one god was more than enough.

"So, what's the task?" [Felix]

"Slay the Supreme Demon Lord." [Va'al]

Adam exchanged glances with Felix before snickering.

"Like, the kind in video games?" [Adam]

"Yes, like the kind in video games. This world is in a warring state. Hundreds of demon lords and heroes are combatting each day; and each day new ones rise. The only way to put an end to this is to defeat the strongest demon lord and become the only Supreme Hero." [Va'al]

"This sounds like a free for all." [Adam]

"Can I just nap while you do this, Adam? You've always wanted to be a hero." [Felix]

"Yeah, but not on another planet." [Adam]

The two were just not feeling it.

"It appears you two need some form of motivation." [Va'al]

"Are you going to give us a reward for this? Like, in a video game? You know, because we're in a video game-like world?" [Adam]

"Think of something you desire." [Va'al]

"Sure." [Adam]

He focused on the thought of going home. Which drifted to those he longed to see. Visions of family and friends came to mind. All to be interrupted by a shocked voice.

"Huh?! Where am I?!" [???]

Adam turned towards the voice, his eyes widening at the familiar figure.

"T-Tiffany?!" [Adam]

There she was, weaning full black military clothing. She didn't have anything for combat on, but it was still standard uniform. At the looks of it, the old man kept his promise in putting her in logistics.

"Adam?" [Tiffany]

"...Is this an illusion?" [Felix]

"Felix too?" [Tiffany]

As the three stared at each other mouth agape, Va'al spoke.

"It appears I accidentally drew your friend in when looking into your desires." [Va'al]

Rage began to bubble inside Adam.

"Are you crazy, Va'al?! You took her from Earth to put her here?!" [Adam]

"It was your desire. Do not blame me." [Va'al]

"Send her back!" [Adam]

"I can't. Unless I know someone in person living on Earth who desires to see her, I can't send her back. Same for you and Felix." [Va'al]

"How about my sister?" [Adam]

"As I said, it has to be someone I know. I have not met your sister in person, thus I am incapable of sending you back." [Va'al]

Adam felt like tearing out his hair in frustration.

"Guess we're stuck with this." [Felix]

"Um… Can anyone fill me in? Why are you two talking to the air?" [Tiffany]

"Oh." [Adam] [Felix]

They must have looked strange to Tiffany without the telepathic link.

"Let's catch you up." [Felix]
