Gambling in Mifis (3)

The unkempt man wanted to say something, but he could only swallow his words back as the situation looked grim. The merchant on the other hand puffed out his chest to show his dominance and gloated.

"Now dealer, deal the pauper his death. I shall be the one to win this money!"

The dealer was a professional and showed no emotion, but did burn a card and revealed the river card. The moment the card was revealed. Everything suddenly seemed to freeze for a few seconds until suddenly everything turned chaotic.

Jumping up and down with joy, the unkempt man got on his knees and started to cry tears of joy, while the merchant stumbled a few steps back in shock. The merchant started to protest by shouting.

"This...this is impossible! Is the casino conspiring against me! I will report this casino to the city authorities! THIS IS A CONSPIRACY"

The river card was another king! The king of clubs! The final king, which meant the unkempt man now had four of a kind!

(All the cards dealt by the dealer: the king of diamonds, the noble of diamonds, the eight of clubs, the villager of spades, the king of clubs)

(The merchant's hand: adventurer of spades and the knight of spades, straight)

(The unkempt man's hand: the king of spades plus the king of hearts, four of a kind)

(Authors note: Four of a kind is the third-best hand possible and like its name. It means that four of the same card is currently present, which is incredibly rare since there are only four of each card)

After the dealer officially showed that the unkempt man had won, the unkempt man went straight to collect the extra 33 silver coins he had won from the merchant and well-dressed lady. Meanwhile, the merchant had become so angry he had begun foaming from the mouth as he approached the unkempt man.

"Y-YOU PAUPER! STEALING MY MONEY! GIVE IT BACK!"

The merchant wanted to punch the unkempt man, but before he could even start to swing two giant hands had appeared on the merchant's shoulders. As if he suddenly came back to reality, he realized almost everyone around him had started to stare, and then he turned his head to look behind him.

Two huge men, that were shorter than Leon by about 10cm (4inches), had one hand on the shoulders of the merchants. Even though they were shorter than Leon. They had muscles much bigger than Leon's and looked intimidating and their height, while shorter than Leon's would still be considered tall in Partha.

Behind the two huge men, an average height and slim build middle-aged man stood with his hands behind his back as he smiled. On his uniform, there was a metal tag that read 'Floorman'.

(Authors note: A floorman is a person who supervises the gaming tables in a casino. So if someone is being suspected of cheating or causing a scene, they will be the first on the scene to check it out and investigate)

The floorman looked towards the merchant and spoke with an amicable voice as he smiled, which only made it creepier in the eyes of the merchant.

"Now physical violence and shouting is never a good thing. Especially in a casino as popular as ours."

The merchant had started to tremble so much, that he looked like he was suffering from a seizure as he stood. However, the floorman didn't care and still continued.

"I understand you are angry with losing money, but you must understand that our cards and dealers are always being checked on and even under watch. Therefore, I can guarantee you that there was no funny business. So will you quietly drop this now?"

Still trembling with fear as he looked at the two giant hands on his shoulders, the merchant nodded, before the floorman gestured to the two security guards.

"Why don't you take a break and cool off your heard for today. I'll have these two fine gentlemen from casino security help you out."

The two security guards essentially picked up the merchant off the ground by a few inches and carried him outside. After the security guards left, everyone else who had paused, suddenly went back to their own games

The floorman walked up to the unkempt man and merely gave a very cordial smile.

"Don't worry about a thing, mister. If that merchant tries anything within the casino, I personally guarantee he will be punished. Since you are a regular around here, let me give you some advice. Although the casino will protect you on the property, once you leave I assume you will be vulnerable?"

The unkempt man nodded before the floor man continued.

"Well, in that case, I urge you to go to our currency counter and either deposit the money into a bank if you have one. Or you can leave your money here and we can issue you a slip, so you can claim your money once things have calmed down. If your money is safe, even that merchant wouldn't dare do anything to you."

The unkempt man nodded but was still slightly skeptical.

"Will that cost money? I don't usually get wins, in fact, I need this money to pay off some gambling debts…"

Still smiling, the floorman responded.

"Normally there would be some small fees, but since your, a regular and the incident was quite unprofessional. The casino will waive the cost just this time."

Hearing that it would be free, the unkempt man smiled and was led away by the floorman. Meanwhile, with two of the four players gone, the only people who remained at the table were the well-dressed lady and Leon, but both instantly stood up and starting to leave.

Leon had only played two hands, but with the table essentially empty and the fact that the sun was starting to come around. He decided that he would take his profits and leave early since he could always come back later. After all, he did have another six days left.

Before leaving, Leon tipped the dealer five bronze coins, before he left the casino.

'Wow. What an experience...who thought casinos would be so professional. Even though it was a big casino, to think they would easily handle that merchant like he was a fly. Mifis truly is a different place.'

Without stopping, Leon quickly made his way back to his inn and went straight towards his room, where he jumped onto the bed and went to sleep.
