After taking everyone back to the fortress. The General ordered the testing to see how many soldiers can be moved at once. While that was happening, the General checked the maps of areas the Malum Kingdom will pass. He found a few areas that would be perfect, but the best was a hill that the would have to climb. The hill wasn't that steep, but it is long and if the army is stationed at the top of the hill they won't be seen until the first Malum Kingdom soldier reaches the top. By then it would be too late, and we would have a guaranteed victory.
Before the night came to an end, we learned that Nova can transport 100 soldiers at a time, and that includes their horses. Doing the math on that, it comes out to 500 trips back and forth for all 50,000 troops. Now to cut downtime as much as possible, the General organized the soldiers into groups of 100 in the same area. Nova would teleport a group, return, and do the next group. This took about an hour, and all the soldiers were in place. The Malum Kingdom would get to the ambush point tomorrow at noon. The General was worried about scouts finding them, so I had Souei do a little work making the scouts avoid that area. Everyone came together for a meeting the night before to prepare for the ambush, and I was invited by the General this time.
Nothing new was brought up, and it was pretty much a meeting to make sure everyone knew their jobs. I talked my parents into letting me watch the battle, as long as I stand at the back with Nova. Most of the Nobles still treated me like a kid, but people like my parents and the General look to me for advice here and there. The next day Nova spent the morning scouting the Malum Kingdom for any detours in the route they're taking. Nothing seemed to be amiss, so the plan moved forward. Once the Malum kingdom made it in seeing distance of the hill, every soldier was ready with their weapon drawn and on their horse.
The horses are trained to keep quiet in situations like this, but just in case of something happening, every horse has been given a calming supplement. I'm told it shouldn't affect the horses in a way that would lose us the battle. When the Malum Kingdoms army reached the bottom of the hill, they stopped and sent a scout up to the top. Our side had scouts hidden in the nearby forest, so if they did this we would know that the ambush failed. Of course, Souei took care of this as I asked. Our scouts didn't see the enemy scout, and the enemy scout peeked over the hill and saw nothing. Neither did the soldiers see the scout right in front of them. Mind manipulation is a beautiful thing.
When the scout made it to the bottom, he reported that it was all clear, and the army moved up the hill. Slowly but surely they progressed up the hill. When the first soldier peaked his head over the crest of the hill, he froze in place and pissed himself. He didn't know whether to run or fight, and that confusion in his mind stopped him like a deer in the headlights. He didn't even warn his comrades, and just stood there. The next soldier came, then the next, and so on. The Fortis Kingdom soldiers were told to wait for the first scream before attacking, this way more enemy soldiers have time to climb the death hill.
After the twentieth enemy soldier reached the crest, we finally heard the first scream. Hearing the signal for attack, The Fortis Kingdom soldiers rode forward according to plan. The 30,000 fighter cavalry formed a spearhead formation and charged down the middle. They stabbed out with their spears, and trampled anyone in there way. The 20,000 mage cavalry split into two separate lines and would run up and down the sides of the enemy army, and shoot down anyone the Fighter cavalry misses. The commanders of the Malum Kingdom army tried they're hardest to mount a counter-attack, but the soldiers just wouldn't listen.
They knew nothing but fight or flight, and in some cases that signal got mixed, and they just froze where they stood. Only to get trampled, stabbed, or shot with magic. They weren't even remotely prepared for this, as they knew the king's army was in a fortress waiting for the arrival of the rebel army. The fighter cavalry doesn't even have their armor on yet. All worries were for nothing, as we routed the army almost immediately. The high ranked soldiers and those on horseback saw where this was going and retreated toward the border. I guess they didn't bring any high ranked elders. Those on foot ran for their lives hoping the Fortis Kingdom soldiers wouldn't chase after them. Well, they were wrong, and after killing everyone that was left on the hill our army gave chase to the retreating army.
I want to follow the army, but I am being watched by my parents. They seem relieved that we won, but I definitely wasn't allowed out of their sight. When the army came back that night, they gave a report to my father, and I happened to be there. Apparently, they chased the retreating army all the way back to the border, slaughtering every straggler they could along the way. Usually in battles like this, we would take prisoners of war, but the Malum kingdom and the Fortis kingdom have a lot of bad blood. The only way we would've taken a prisoner was if he or she had noble blood. That's where the wartime money is at. Noble houses will pay hefty sums to get back their sons, daughters, lords, etc.
I stood atop the hill as the sunset in front of me. The hill was dyed red with the blood of thousands, and I couldn't help to think 'I did this'. I made the wave that turned into a tsunami, and caused all of this to happen. Truthfully, I felt kind of numb to it, and I didn't really mind. These people would have fought sooner or later, and they made the decision to invade. No one forced them to invade, so why should I feel bad for them. As for the rebel army, they poisoned me before kyles soul, and I wholeheartedly believe that this war would've happened with or without the transmigration. While contemplating this, a system notification goes off.
{Achievement: You've contributed to a major achievement. The invasion force has been repelled, and the host has played a major role in that. Due to you're contribution, the host will be awarded 20,000 SP. Spend wisely.}
"Huh, definitely worth it."
