The army stayed on the hill that night, so they can rest and recuperate. I already went back to the fortress because camping with an army isn't the most comfortable experience. The next morning, Nova and I went to pick up the army from the hill top. They were already organized into groups of a hundred, so the whole thing didn't take more than an hour. Back in the fortress, the well rested soldiers took their positions on the walls. Souei told me that father has the aerie intercepting the rebel army's communications, so they have no idea that the Malum Kingdom has already retreated. They're strategy is to wait outside the fortress, and attack when reinforcements arrive.

Of course, reinforcements will never arrive, so what should we do? Allow them to find out about the Malum Kingdoms defeat, or harass them into attacking with our cavalry. Sending the cavalry out wouldn't be the smartest idea in my opinion, so I voted for letting them know of their allies defeat. Sometimes you have to use information to make your enemy attack. Why risk the cavalry when a small amount of information can get the job done. General Buckmond seemed to agree with me, and father ordered the aerie to pigeon the stolen messages to the rebel army once they arrive.

The next day, the rebel army started pouring in. They set up camp just out of range of us, and seemed to be waiting. Father had the aerie send the pigeons so they would fly in from the direction of the Malum Kingdom. This way there's no confusion from the rebel army.

POV Duke Freemont

Our army has arrived, and all we have to do is wait for the Malum Kingdom. I don't trust them one bit, but sacrifices need to be made. Everything is going as planned, except the defensive plan of the kings army. That must have been General Buckmonds idea. That old man is a sly one, but we'll still win with our numbers. A batch of letters are delivered into my tent, and I start going through them. Ripping open the first letter, I read through its contents.

"Fuck!" I scream, and the letter falls from my hand.

This is bad, this is very bad. We were at a disadvantage with this fortress defense plan, but now without reinforcements the odds are very much stacked against us. We may have to use the elders.

POV Syrin

The day after the rebel army arrived, they seemed to be mobilizing for an attack. This world doesn't have any ballistas, catapults, or trebuchets. All we as the defending army have to worry about are siege towers, and battering rams. The siege towers look like metal towers on wheels. They're made of metal because wood would be an easy target of a fire mage. Inside the siege towers are ladders all the way to the top, leading to a deployable bridge. Said bridge would then be used to cross onto the high walls of the fort. The battering rams would be used to bash into the metal doors of the fortress. There are two entrances into the fortress, so we'll see if they go for both, or prioritize one. Once again the battering ram is made of metal, and had a metal roof above to protect the soldiers operating it.

When the rebel army was ready, they slowly moved forward as they pushed their siege weapons forward. Their are thirty siege towers, and two battering rams. Both battering rams went for the same door, so I guess they hope to break in faster with double the effort. As they moved into firing range of the Mage's, both sides started firing spells at one another. The higher ranked rebel Mage's were put inside the siege towers, and fired spells from small windows. The elements flew across the battlefield, and since we had the high ground we took far less casualties.

As the battle of magic continued, the battering rams rolled in front of the huge metal door of the fortress. Soon the sound of metal bashing against metal was heard. Due to the superhuman strength of fighters, forts have been specifically reinforced to defend against someone just kicking the door down. That's why the walls are thicker and taller, the giant doors are made of thick durable metal. If this battle was fought in a fortress from earth, a fighter would just need to kick the door to enter, or possibly jump over the wall.

After the battering rams, came the siege towers. They lined up all along the same wall as the battering rams, and deployed their bridges. Fighters moved up to ladders making sure not to interfere with the Mage's firing magic from the windows. On the wall a formation was made at every siege tower. A group of fighters would guard the entrance of each bridge, and a group of Mage's behind them would fire spells, as to thin out the heard for the fighters. This continued until nightfall, and the rebel army retreated for the night. If a battle is won by whoever has the least losses, then we won by a lot. That night a meeting was called on both sides.

POV Duke Freemont

Today was a bad day. At this rate we'll lose the war and have to retreat, but if we retreat we'll open our backs the enemy. Most of the foot soldiers will be get killed or captured if that happens. Getting up from my desk, I make my way towards the meeting tent. Entering I see that everyone has arrived. The mood is about as bad as I thought it would be. Liviana seems terrified of the situation, and Alexander looks nonchalant about everything.

"Let's start the meeting" I take a seat.

"We need to come up with a new strategy." A young noble with a posh look suggested.

"We don't need a new strategy we just have to keep sending the soldiers until we win." Prince Alexander counters.

"Your highness, based on today's outcome continuing with the same strategy would be foolish." An older Noble tries to mentor the prince into the right direction.

"Are you calling me foolish?" Alexander face contorted in anger.

"Why don't we go and get some dinner, sweetie." Liviana, seeing the direction this was going decided to intervene. "We can leave this to the more experienced, and enjoy the night with some food."

"*sigh* fine." Alexander angrily stomps out of the tent, followed by his worried mother.

"What should the new strategy be?" I ask. Ignoring the scene that just unfolded before us. The others decided to follow my lead, and continue with the meeting.

"I think we should utilize the elders of our family's." One Noble suggested.

"Yes, but if we involve our elders, the enemy elders will make a move as well." Another retorted.

"We have to take the risk, and hope our elders can win this for us." The flap of the tent fluttered, and a group of elders enter the meeting tent. The one taking the lead is an elderly woman dressed in blue robes. Everyone in the room kneels in reverence to the new arrivals.

"We will move out tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll be able to kill that decrepit harlot."

POV Syrin

"Am I late?" Nova and I entered the war room. At least that's what I like to call it. The room has a table with a big map, and that's what they call it in movies back on earth.

"No, Honey. Just on time." The future Queen says.

"Good, let's start then." Father says. I take a seat and Nova takes her place on the arm rest to my left.

"Why are we meeting? We have them beat. Just a few more days of this, and they'll either surrender or retreat." A Noble said haughtily. Many nodded their heads agreeing with him.

"Because, they still have high ranked elders that can join the battle." I say, as I feed Nova some seeds. All the nodding nobles looked frightened at the thought of elders fighting anywhere near them.

"Exactly." General Buckmond agreed. "The question is will it be tomorrow or the next day."

"After how badly we beat them today, I would put my money on tomorrow." I state, and the door to the room open.

"I agree with my grandson." A group of elderly men and woman enter the war room. At the head of them is an elderly woman with greying faded red hair, dressed in magnificent armor. At the sight of these people, everyone in the room dropped to there knees and bowed their heads in respect. Except for the king who slightly bowed his head, and me who has no idea what's going on.

"Huh? Who are you, lady? My grandmother is dead. At least that's what my dad told me." I look at my father for answers.
