The Transfer Student

Mark woke up when a ray of sunlight hit his face. He opened his eyes and he saw an unfamiliar ceiling, he then heard soft snores. He turned his head and he saw Alice, she was resting on his chest. Mark blushed at how intimately close they were.

Alice's eyes fluttered open and the first thing she saw was Mark's face, her eyes shut then suddenly snapped open. She jumped away from him almost immediately which then caused her to fall off the bed.

"Why are you here?!" she demanded.

"Hey, it was a dare to you that's why we slept on the same bed," Mark yawned.

"Oh right," she slapped herself. "By the way, were you telling me something last night? I got too tired so I fell asleep while you were talking," Alice chuckled.

"Oh that, it's nothing. I was just… praying." Mark grinned once he remembered that he failed to confess to her for the nth time.

"Let's go," Mark said as he held out his hand. Alice accepted Mark's hand and he pulled her up. She muttered a soft thanks and they headed downstairs.

When they went downstairs everyone else was still asleep, they quietly crept to the kitchen. Mark volunteered to make breakfast whilst Alice went to the living room to wake the others up. "Time to get even," Alice smirked.

She plugged her phone to the speaker, turned the volume to maximum, chose a song then she hit play. Then played a loud Skrillex dubstep music. Everyone woke up and looked frantic. "Déjà vu," the guys thought.

"Breakfast is ready," Alice smiled.

Once they were done eating breakfast, all of them got ready and they soon left and headed to school. "Thanks for letting us stay over," Sarah thanked.

"It's nothing, it's better than getting left alone anyway." Alice grinned.

It didn't take long for them to arrive in their classroom. After a few minutes of waiting, their teacher arrived. They could already tell that he was about to make an announcement.

"Good morning everyone," he greeted and the class greeted him back. "This might sound as a surprise to everyone but I am here to inform you that someone just transferred and he will be your classmate for the rest of the year."

Everyone in the class had different reactions. "Who would transfer when the school year is about to end anyway?" Mark wondered aloud. Although despite that, most of their classmates sounded excited about it since having a new classmate does sound interesting.

"The school board has been meeting him for the past two weeks already since he was arranging his papers by then. We really went through a lot of trouble to have his transfer here finalized so be nice to him." Their teacher looks outside. "Here he is, please welcome your new classmate, Grant Mendoza." their teacher introduced.

After that cue, Grant entered the classroom looking as confident as ever. He was already wearing their uniform and for once, he wasn't wearing his ear piercings since it wasn't allowed in their school. He was wearing his uniform properly too, no unbuttoned button, black undershirts or creased shirts on sight.

"What?" Alice stood up, her eyes wide open and her mouth gaped in shock.

"I know some of you recognize him about the incident involving Alice months ago, but trust me, Grant changed. He passed the tests and interviews. The school wouldn't have accepted him otherwise so be nice and don't be hostile with him," their teacher said. Grant smiled. His smile was directed to Alice. Alice's eyes narrowed.

"What on earth is this idiot up to?" Alice wondered.

"You go and sit down at the chair behind Alice," his teacher ordered and Grant obeyed.

Most students were excited to have Grant be their classmate, he had good looks, he has this seemingly cool-bad boy aura and most girls were totally looking at him. Although he was aware that he's receiving glares from Alice's friends yet he remained to have a calm smile on his face. They proceeded with their lesson just like that although it was quite hard to focus since Alice kept wondering about why Grant would transfer to their school in the first place at such a bad time.

Alice waited until their first period was done. Was their teacher left, she immediately turned back to Grant's seat and slammed a fist on his desk. This caught the attention of almost everyone in their class.

"Okay Grant, tell me why are you here? The school year is about to end so why would you even transfer at such a time? Are you an idiot?" she asked.

Grant simply smiled and pinched Alice's cheek. "I enjoy your company, Alice. It's really nice to be friends with you so I transferred here just so I could spend more time with you easily. And besides, my parents have been telling me to transfer out of my old school but I didn't have a reason to back then. Now, I finally have one so I decided to agree with them and let me transfer."

Alice's eyes narrowed in confusion. "What exactly is your point?" She asked.

Grant calmly leaned back on his chair and crossed his arms. "I know you're too dense so I'll just tell you straight, I am here because I like you," he said.

It was loud and clear. Alice froze, Mark nearly choked and everyone in the class whooped. "I like you Alice, a lot." Grant smiled.

"What?!" Alice exclaimed as her jaw almost dropped to the floor. Amidst all the excited cheers and teases from their classmates, Alice's friends were left confused while Mark was fuming in annoyance.

After two more subjects later, it was finally their lunch break. Alice saw Grant walking outside their classroom so she decided to take the chance. She grabbed him by his necktie and pulled him to her desired destination which happened to be the rooftop.

"Are you an idiot?" she hissed.

"This is the second time you asked me that, is it so idiotic to like you?" Grant asked and he only got hit on the head by Alice.

"Stop saying embarrassing stuff or else I'll give you a beating," she scowled as a blush began forming on her cheeks.

"I mean it though, but it's not like I will pressure you or anything. I also meant it when I said that I transferred here to spend more time with you. If you look past the fact that I like you, you also cannot deny that we make good friends, right?"

Alice didn't know how to respond to that because what Grant said was the truth. She really does enjoy spending time with him because they have a lot in common and Grant is a really cool guy. Before she could even think of a reply, the door suddenly opened and they saw Alice's other friends. Alice smiled awkwardly and she immediately stepped back from Grant. Mark didn't look happy with what he is seeing.

"You're full of surprises Grant," Mark groaned. Grant smirked at him much to Mark's annoyance.

"Definitely, this is a way to earn your trust, I know you still don't fully trust me. But I really don't have any bad intentions," Grant explains.

"I'll trust you but that doesn't mean we're friends," Mark huffed. "And it doesn't mean that I'll approve of you and Alice."

"Same with us," the others said in chorus, although it was obvious that they were against it.

"That's enough for me, I'll see you all in class then," Grant waved as he left.

Once there was no sign of Grant the guys all have disapproving looks at Alice. "Why were you alone with him here on the rooftop?" Lance asked.

"Can't we just move on?" Alice whined.

"Answer the question," Vincent scowled.

"Well I had to talk to him after what he said to me this morning," She scoffed. "I asked him some questions because I thought he's just joking around but he said some weird stuff instead,"

"And what do you mean by weird?" Matthew asked.

"The guy really likes me," Alice murmured as she turned away from them.

"Well it was pretty obvious from the start but I didn't expect him to be this bold," Josh groaned.

"It was?" Alice asked.

"If there is one thing everyone in this school would agree on, it's the fact that you're so dense." Alex pointed out. "Also, we meant what we said earlier. We don't approve of Grant,"

"Okay first of all, stop acting like my parents with this whole approval thing because I am capable of making my own decisions. Grant is still a friend of mine and I really am not interested in entertaining him as anything else but a friend at the moment."

"At the moment?" Gerald asked.

"Whatever, let's just move on." Alice changed the subject.

The guys stopped asking questions by then but Mark still couldn't stop thinking about it. Grant really is an unpredictable one.
