I jolted awake as I felt like I was suffocating and choking from air. I coughed harshly as I breathed uncontrollably.
I was unable to stop myself from inhaling aggressively when I heard the door slam open.
"Hey! Are you alright?" I heard a voice.
My throat was hurting too much that I couldn't open my eyes immediately.
I felt a hand rubbing my back as I heard soft whispers.
"Hey~ Easy~ Easy there~" the soft voice said.
I was still breathing aggressively, but I tried to speak at least.
"W-- *cough* Wa—*cough* Water!," I choked.
"Yes-- Right! Wait for me!" the voice said.
With one last soothing rub to my back, I felt the loss of touch and then the sound of a door opening again.
I tried to focus on suppressing the violent coughs. Therefore, I tried to ease my breath, but it wasn't working. My throat felt like it was bursting in flames and that it felt like it was it was about to snap into two. To my relief, I heard the door open again and I heard rushed footsteps making its way to me.
"Here!" the voice frantically says.
I guessed that she was handing me a glass of water, so I reached up to the direction to where the voice was coming from and I felt a cool surface. I quickly snatched it and gulped the content recklessly, although I coughed in the beginning I was able to adjust and down the beverage in minutes.
As the liquid rush down my throat, my mouth felt like it had been left out for days and had dried out severely. The splash of cool water was a bit uncomfortable in the beginning but I endured and gulped the rest. After finishing the glass, my eyes were still pricked with tears so I wiped it off and adjusted my vision.
After a few seconds of focusing, I could now see clearly.
"Wha—Where am I?" I said unconsciously as I roamed my eyes through the room.
My head was still up in the clouds.
I also didn't realize that someone was standing beside me an it nearly startled me for a minute.
"Wh—Who are you?" I asked a bit duller than I expected.
The girl looked confused at first but then she cracked a smile at me.
"Miss Levi, it's me, Vivian," she says with a chuckled at me.
I was slow at the time being and I was unable to comprehend what was happening at that moment. I was only able to refocus when I snapped myself back to reality.
I then soon realized what I had just said and looked; I must have looked stupid just now. Heat raised to my cheeks and I can tell that I at least had a pink tint on my cheeks right about now.
"Oh—yeah, right, my bad~ hehe," I said nervously as I rubbed the back of my neck.
She giggled at me more before her expression turned into a worried look.
"Oh my, did you have a nightmare or something? You're practically drenched in sweat!" she says.
I looked down at myself and saw that the clothes that I'm wearing had deliberately clung to my flesh and had a trail of sweat embedded on the surface. I just then realized that I was sweating bullets and was practically pooling the bed with it.
She rushes to the dresser that was not too far from the bathroom door and grabs a white fluffy towel.
"Here! Use this to dry off, I'll see a fresh pair of clean clothes for you," she says as she hands me the towel.
I was stunned for a moment before I accepted the towel and muttered my thanks.
She just smiled at me as she continues for my suitcase that was still unpacked.
I deliberately wiped myself off, feeling stickier as I continued to wipe myself off clean.
As Vivian continues to rummage through my stuff, which surprisingly, I was cool with, I called for her attention.
"Hey, uhmm, Vivian?" I called.
"Hmm?" she responds continuing to look through my suitcase.
"C-can I use the bathroom?" I asked sheepishly.
She halts for a moment looking at me strangely.
"Of course, no need to ask for permission, this is your apartment too after all. By the way, do you plan on taking a shower?" she asks with a soft smile.
I nodded shyly, "Yeah."
She smiles at me widely before she stands up and rushes to my side.
"Are you sure? Can you get up now?" she asks worriedly.
I nodded and sat straight first. I could feel my tense muscles relieve the moment I sat up.
I uncovered myself from the blankets swinging my feet off the edge of the bed and slowly trying to stand up.
Vivian lends me a hand and we made our way to the bathroom after I muttered my thanks.
She helps me prep the necessities I needed to bathe and leaves after finishing up.
I was just sitting at the top of the toilet seat.
If I were to be honest, I can feel how limp my muscles were.
It made sense considering the amount of time I had laid down for. I just had to get used to walking again.
'Come on, Levi! You can do this!' I thought motivating myself.
After slapping my face I grabbed for the sink beside the toilet for support.
'Argh, so hard,' I thought frustrated.
One of my legs was numb so I relied on the other to hold up most of my weight. I carefully threaded to the mirror to see myself.
I was not that surprised to see myself in such a mess. My hair was all over the place and my face was paled a few tones whiter.
'Well, this is what I get for slacking on bed for the past few days,' I thought to myself as I sighed.
I opened the faucet, scooped a handful of water, and splashed my face to rejuvenate my skin. I sighed in content after wiping off most of the water off my face.
I began to stare off into the distance…
For the past few days of staying here, I have been having the same dream every night. It was a bit concerning to me now.
'That day of the accident, that mysterious figure in the distance…' I thought.
Suddenly a flash of memory peeked my mind.
'THAT GUY THAT BLOCKED MY WAY!' I unconsciously gripped the sink that I was leaning on and a surge of mixed feelings suddenly overwhelmed me.
I saw how that guy suddenly appeared in front of the car as if he just poofed right in front of me. It was like a sudden flash of light. Almost like, he just appeared out of nowhere.
'What was that? Could it be just the trick of the eye? I was speeding so fast and I was almost delusional, was I seeing things at that moment?' I wondered more.
I felt my heart squeeze as I felt a part of me that tells me I wasn't just seeing things.
'Have I gone mad?'
