Doorsteps Toward You

-Evening, D-Day, Homecoming, Joanne's House-

Felix wears a black suit and a grey necktie while standing in front of Joanne's front door.

He knocks on it, and her father shows up.

"Hi, Mr. Park. Is she ready yet?" he asks her father while smiling widely.

"Just one moment," Mr. Park says calmly.

Then, Joanne comes down through the stairs wearing a simple brown dress with shiny white pumps. Her short black hair is curled and half-braided. Her lips are reddish-brown, and her eyes are lined with no smokey eye shadows.

She smiles at her best friend, who's standing and smiling proudly at her.

"Joanne, you look... wonderful," he says while smiling radiantly.

"Well, thank you for the compliment," she says while handing him a greyish boutonniere to him.

He smiles and hands her an off-white corsage while softly grabbing her hand. The scent of his perfume is giving the room a very fancy vibe to it.

"Nice choice," she talks about the color of the corsage.

Joanne's little brother watches them and complains, "Urgh, I can't wait to be in high school and go to your homecoming!"

"Me too, me too!" the youngest of them shouts cheerfully.

"You'll get your time," Joanne calmly responds to them while smiling sincerely.

Felix and Joanne face her parents.

"Don't be out too late," her mother says serenely.

They both smile and get out of the door excitedly to the car.

"Come on, let's go to Farrell's," Felix says while gently escorting her to the car.

They start the car and just after a few seconds, they've arrived.

"Who are we kidding? We live in the same block, we should've just left the car at my house and get back there," Joanne says while giggling.

"Huh... good point," he says after realizing it.

They knock the door, and Twins' father and mother quickly open the door.

"First highschool homecoming!" their mother screams excitedly.

"Beca, Caleb, come down! Your dates are here!" Mr. Farrel shouts happily.

Although Caleb should pick up his date, he decided to meet up with others first.

Beca glides down the fancy stairs like a Disney princess, wearing a pink glittery dress with a silver pair of high heels. Her brunette hair is half upbraided, and her eyes are shining like a glimmer.

Caleb follows her from behind with a white shirt, unbuttoned on the first two ones. His hairstyle is quiff with one loose strand. He walks down with one hand in his pocket and the other one carrying his black suit. He smirks at Joanne and Felix while shouting, "Who's ready to have fun?!"

"We are!"

"Oh, yeah!"

"Totally!"

They shout merrily at the same time.

The twins just smile while walking toward them and her dad excitedly push them together so that they can get into the frame.

"Now, say cheese!" Mrs. Farrell shouts.

"Kai, aren't you supposed to pick up your date?" his mother shouts from outside his room.

"Yeah, after I see the others!" he shouts from his room while fixing his black suit.

No tie, no belt, no crazy hair gel, it's just Kai wearing a casual black suit. There's a silver choker lingering loosely on his neck to add a little spiciness. His brown hair is lightly curled, parted in the middle, and forms a curtain covering a bit of his beautiful brown eyes.

"Come on, I gotta pick up my date," Ethan says while leaning on Kai's door while referring to Val.

Kai just rolls his eyes and leaves his room.

-Val's house-

They all are sitting in the living room, waiting for her to come down.

"Woah..." Kai mumbles with awe.

His eyes widen and are not ready to move on to see another girl.

There's a glitter in his eyes, reflected from Val.

Val is coming down, wearing a short black dress with a red glittery lace covering half the front side of her right leg. She walks down with a pair of black heeled boots while holding her black guitar case. Her waist is covered with silver chains. Her blond hair is curled into a ponytail. With red lipstick and smokey eyes, she smiles at them.

"Whoo! You're ready to rock!"

"Dope, baby!"

"You look so good,"

"I love the dress so much!"

"You look... beautiful..."

"Woah..."

Val walks toward them while smiling at them. She looks at Kai, who's still in awe. She grabs his shoulder, and they all take a photo together.

"It's not prom, but it's still cool, baby!" Caleb shouts.

Seconds after that, Ethan reaches her while saying, "Wow... you look... like you're going to a rock concert..." while awkwardly smiling at her.

She frowns for a second and decides to smile while casually responding, "Well, technically, I am."

Ethan hands her a pink corsage and says, "I kind of thought you'd wear something similar to this..."

Val wrinkles her eyes and says, "Okay....? Well, here's your boutonniere," while still forcing a smile.

Val gets out of the house, and Joanne reaches Ethan.

"You don't tell Val what to wear, seriously," Joanne says while patting his shoulders.

Kai looks at Val when she's busy laughing with the others. He's lost in her smile, too high to come down, too addicted to notice another girl.

"She does not have mercy on me, and she's not taking it easy on my heart..." he mumbles to himself.

He's trying to grasp some air from the suffocation of seeing Val in Ethan's arms.

When Kai looks down, Val takes a peek.

"Why does he look so hot tonight? How can someone looks innocent, sweet, and hot at the same time..." she complains to herself.

-

The others are in the car, while Ethan and Val are still outside. Ethan dashes to her while carrying a pair of pink high heels.

"What are those for?" Val skeptically asks Ethan.

He just casually says, "Well, I think these ones are prettier, and you know... more girly..." while smiling shamelessly at her.

A smile is not present in her face anymore, she starts to look at him coldly.

"Are you tryna tell me how to dress?" she snaps.

Ethan just laughs it off and sweetly says, "Oh, of course not! Come on, let's get into the car,"

-

-Homecoming, Gym, Seaside High-

They enter the gym with sparkles in their eyes. The colorful lights, balloons, crowd, and music are pulling them in like magnets.

Here, the six of them have different moments and stories.

From this moment, they all start to form different and precious memories.

"You're dating a punk princess now, Ethan?" a senior guy teases Ethan in a blink of an eye.

"I didn't know you like that kind of chick, Ethan," another says.

Ethan, who's starting to wary, whispers to Val while looking around, "Hey... I got a more decent dress for you... Let's get you changed..."

Val frowns and starts to get irritated.

"What the hell are you talkin' about, Dude?!" she snaps with a high tone.

He looks around nervously and whispers again with fury, "Let's talk somewhere else..."

-Empty Classroom-

Ethan roughly enters an empty and dark classroom. He hits the lights hardly and takes a deep breath to control his emotions.

He tried so hard to hold back, but it's not very much helping.

"What the hell, Ethan?!" Val shouts furiously to him.

He turns to face her with rage in his eyes, ready to shut her up whenever it is.

"Why can't you do me a favor and just change your dress?" he says while trying hard not to violently scream at her.

"Dude, I can dress the way I want to! I'm in a band, and you can't tell me how to dress," she firmly and coldly says while looking fiercely into his eyes.

He scoffs and says, "You're not a kid anymore, Val. Society already has the rules, just follow it! You're supposed to show up in a beautiful dress, yet you showed up as some kind of goth princess!"

"Tch! So this is the real Ethan, huh?" she mumbles while smirking at him.

He hesitates and cautiously asks, "...What do you mean?"

"You're insecure, aren't you? That's why you're forcing me to conform to the way girls are supposed to dress," she coldly says.

His eyes widen out, but he rebuts, "Shut up, you bitch!" I'm not insecure!"

"Woah... hahaha! So, the school famous sweetheart, Ethan Jenkins, is swearing now? Is that even legal, Ethan?!" she shouts in his ears.

He stays silent for a moment, with eyes goggling out.

"You don't always get to be the rebellious character that you're playing right now, Val. Grow up," he shuts her with eyes filled with wrath.

She smirks and says, "Oh, Ethan... Do you know what you are? A coward. You're too scared to do things the way you want to because you care so much shit people say about you. You're the one who's supposed to grow up, Ethan... I'm outta here. We're done," she firmly says with all irritation in her heart.

She leaves him while holding out a middle finger to him, not to be rude, but it's just the way she expresses her anger.

She leaves him there while still wearing the dress that she wants to wear. She walks confidently with the black heeled boots that she owns toward the gym where the homecoming is held. She smirks as she doesn't want one stupid boy to ruin homecoming for her.
