The Fall

Around evening after tailing Albert (Trust me, I actually survived that but I ain't got any clue about him.), I fled outside to get some fresh air as I passed by the sanitation tent to disinfect myself. The night as usual was heavy in silence. The gentle wind pirated through the dark sky while crickets sounded from behind the branches of cheerfully shaggy trees. The stars shined, leaning forward to manifest a big smile. 'Another beautiful night… one that shows how unfortunate are we.'

To my surprise, a melodious female voice noised from my right while phoning, "I'm fine… please. No worries-" I briefly noticed as I called her attention, "Kelsy?" As Kelsy shifted her eyes on me, she gestured me to wait while talking with her phone mate, "How about Chris? Is he alright? Can I talk to him? -" Rumbles reached out from the volume of Kelsy's speaker. Her eyes sparkled… Though I couldn't see half of her face because of her white N-95 mask, I could discern her tenderly smile.

Her ppe sprawled out by the nearest trashcan while wrapped in a cellophane, leaving Kelsy with her dark sea green ruffle sleeve tee and black ankle-length slacks. The lenses on her eyeglasses were foggy as few strips of hair surged from her deep brown ponytail. She pouted in disappointment, "Too bad… I just want to narrow down something- "Suddenly I heard a little kid mocking at her, "For what is it, ***. Hahahah-" Kelsy chuckled as twinge of happiness sealed on her. At this moment, I felt again the caterpillars on my stomach, converting into a cocoon. My goofy eyes were blessed as I saw her grin radiantly from ear to ear.

In that instant, Kelsy arranged her hazel eyes on me with a tired sigh, "Mia, I'm sorry but I have matters to work at this very moment. Will it be okay for you if we call again next time?" She smiled ravishingly again, arrowing my hearth for the thousandth time, "I'll promise you, okay. I'm going to call you as soon as possible… I'll not be disconnected for a week again." By then, the little kid on the phone halted the call.

Kelsy deposited her cell on her pocket as she watched, expecting me to start a discussion. We exchanged looks for like minutes when she giggled timidly to destroy the tranquillity, "So…" The muscles behind my skin tensed, attempting to take a look over the birds fluttering from cloud to cloud. My tongue tied as my cheeks fired in embarrassment, "I need your- \" Since I'm not well invested for talks with my current mental state, I decided to shut her down, "Ah, whatever." "What?" "Absolutely nothing."

Kelsy let out a resigned sigh as she stood by the platform outside the hospital to catch sight from the afar right the location the murder scene took place. Yellow tapes secured the dumpsite as the place was left unattended by the police investigators. Smell of stained blood drifted on the air, pinching my nose in disgust.

Seeing the alleyway made me ill at ease. Why? Because I'm a witness. Everybody might think that I should help with the investigation… but no, I had no intention to do so. The feeling of getting questioned about this and that when I myself had nothing to share about, annoyed me. 'I distance with everybody… including the 'little' things.'

I disturbed her broadly stagnant in boredom, "If someone will show up and tell us that he or she was the culprit, then everything will be easy. In this instance, the Scott family can demand a lawsuit anytime." Kelsy stretched her arms, relieving all her stress as she snorted terribly, "Wish that would happen. However, a person whose guilty of execution… beat around the bush to live freely as they intended to. Not a single one wanted to be prisoned for years and… definitely not allowing themselves to be sentenced to death."

I glared at her as the moonlight polished through her unblemished skin. She shrugged her shoulders while her chin pulled in horror. I turned my head away from her as the wind offered a vicious slap on my cheeks, "True. Why can't people just do that? They do nothing virtuous but trouble. That kid should be giving him a kick on his d**k before anything like this befall on every hand."

Kelsy sneered as if I had merely mumbled a corny joke, "You think she can do that. If I were her, I'll be scared to defend myself." I peeked slightly below me as my tool throbbed slightly again in pain, "Then Christina would be up for the job. The murderer will obviously beg on his knees." Kelsy laughed in an impulse, providing me a creamy simper, "Sure does… But did you just assume the culprit's gender?" "Well yes… or no." 'Somehow, I got this gut feeling that he was a male… though I'm not sure why.'

Kelsy inhaled the fresh nitrous air while looking up in the sky. Her face distant as though she was viewing the whole multidimensional universe from far away, "Although this case I'd faced through was a difficult one… it's still worthy for me. Since these days all we ever focused about was to attend a COVID-19 patient." My stomach felt sick as she gazed at me with a worn out smile hustling her lips. "The farther we go through, the farther I realize that it becomes repetitive. But still, I couldn't help myself from wanting to help patients every day."

As my heart raced a mile, I snatched instinctually my digital camera and pointed it directly on her with a straight face. Kelsy stared at me, her eyebrow raised than the other in bewilderment, "Umm… what?" I griped sternly as my eyes squinted, "You forgot that I'm a journalist in action, huh? I'm doing my job here." "Umm… what am I going to do now?"

I sealed her mouth from speaking as I queried straightforwardly, "So I heard that you're a volunteer… Way to go. Since when did you have had the audacity to do so? -" She was left astound for seconds before seeking for a word escape, when I shut her off again with another mean'ingful' question, "-What makes you cocky to work in this place?"

Kelsy glared while stifling another laugh, "That's one weird of wording a question-" She continued with a helpless shrug, "-It's what I'd desired… nothing else." I clicked my tongue while opening my hand, as a gesture of disappearing. "That is to say, your trynna end your life like smoke." She clapped her hands in sarcasm with a weird smile creeping her lips as she interrogated me with another question, "Are you arguing or… interviewing me? I can't honestly tell." "Answer me… I'll delete unnecessary conversations."

Kelsy moaned softly while fiddling beside a lamp post. Her magenta hair tie dropped mistakenly on the sidewalk as her straight unbounded hair lowered after flipping majestically her hair without any notice. For my part, I dripped in sweat as the temperature climbed high. 'The problem is the heat… There's no exceeding reasons for me to debate to.'

As Kelsy felt her hair loosed, she searched around in circles while mumbling a curse word. She paced back and forth trying to find her precious hair tie. I deeply sighed as she took out my patience. I made my way to the location her hair tie fell on and plucked it out while Kelsy kept on leaning down to find it. I placed my hand on her shoulder, stopping her, "Kelsy, stand up. I got something for you."

Without any hesitation, Kelsy with a confused smile followed my order as I went behind her. I shook her tie, throwing the dirt off the material and placed my camera on my side. Then there after, I tied her abundant brown hair, twisting and pulling it as long as it's firm enough. She chuckled in appreciation, "I can do it myself, you know." The moon above peeked from the white sleepy clouds and the crying of the birds seeped from the sundown. The curls of the wind caressing my skin.

After I'm done with her ponytail, I switched my camera on again; her affectionate smile taped on it, "Now, continue." She answered while holding below her ruffle sleeve tee, muttering like 'what's with this guy' somewhere along that line before she answered, "It's just me as always, feeling as if these sentiments will get off my chest once again if I had to stay in touch with the missions the deceased entrusted me, to create a future much big than my own. They love and fight while I'm here protecting those… I defend everyone's purpose in every aspect."

I debated on her, trying to get off from her 'delusional' ideals, "People do not take a liking in risking themselves just because they wanted to help anyone. Life is not a daijobo. As much as how heroic it is, it never gave us an advantage. We weren't born just for the sake of others right? I meant no offence, but you never value your own life as many people were. That's just so close with suiciding yourself."

She swatted the air as she chuckled in response, "If that's what you feel… then I'm not going to discuss any further. I respect your opinion, though I don't see life as the same as you." "Wiser than abandoning your safety." 'She's not really up for arguments... or she just knows that I'm a stubborn kid she do not wish to contend with."

All of a sudden, a loud whack boomed out from the creepy alleyway surprising me and Kelsy. 'Oh hell no.'
