Fabian walked down the path. He would have definitely preferred flying, but he couldn't just whip out his wings whenever. He'd definitely be seen, and people may get frightened, or try to hunt him down. Like some type of exotic bird. Fabian huffed. Now that wouldn't be fun at all.
Where was I supposed to be going again? Fabian tapped the bottom of his chin. Ah, right. That one town. Fabian continued on his path, as it transitioned from a stone path to a dirt one. The town he was going to had apparently been ridden with an odd disease, and he was going to have to act as an apothecary for this job. Fabian sighed, staring at the sky. It'd be great if I didn't have to deal with all these problems by myself. But, I mean, I can't really get any help. It's my job to go help people. He kicked a small rock on the path, watching it clumsily bounce away from him.
As he was walking, he continued to kick it, hardly noticing the sudden change in scenery. He evidently lost the rock, transitioning to a pine cone. Then it occurred to him that he was in a forest now. Fabian stopped for a moment, looking around. It should be around here somewhere.... Fabian strode through the bushes, looking for any signs of life.
Snap.
Fabian perked up, turning around. He smiled. "Oooo~ it appears that someone is trying to sneak up on me!" He laughed. "C'mon, I already heard you. Might as well come out."
No one came out.
Fabian waited patiently. Of course, he knew exactly where the person sneaking up on him was, but he was hoping they would show themselves. It'd be a lot easier to talk to them if they came out, rather than Fabian finding them. He sighed, crossing his arms. "Aw, c'mon! I'm not gonna do anything! Just come out, pwetty pwease?"
No answer, no one came out.
Fabian groaned. "Ugh, fine...." Fabian walked to his left, sticking his hand into a bush. He heard a yelp, and dragged them out. "Hey there, stranger! How are you doing on this fine day?"
They shrieked, stepping back. Fabian smiled. "Wow... am I really that intimidating?"
"S-Shut up!" They turned away, crossing their arms. "You startled me!"
"Yeah, I get it, but you wasted both of our time by doing that." Fabian complained. "You should have just come out!" The two went silent, which gave Fabian time to analyze their features. They had fluffy green hair that was dark at the bottom. They were rather tall, and had ragged clothes. Fabian blinked, before he finally spoke up again. "So... what's your name?"
They paused for a moment. "Lucas...."
Fabian nodded. "Alrighty! Nice meeting you!" He turned around and waved. "Welp, I'm going to see you later! I've got places to be!"
"Wait a minute, are you seriously just going to leave without telling me your name?" Lucas shouted.
"Yeah." Fabian grinned. "I'm surprised you would give out your name to some random stranger in the woods! Now I can threaten people who know you however I like!"
Lucas frowned. "You're a dick."
"Understandable." Fabian turned around again. "Cya, nerd!" He spun around, leaving Lucas.
"W-Wait!"
Fabian paused, groaning. "Ugh, what is it now?" He puffed out his cheek, putting his hands on his hips.
"Are you an apothecary?" Lucas asked, pointing to Fabian's bag.
Fabian paused. "Yeah, I am. What of it?"
Lucas hesitated. "W-Well, um, uh, there's this, disease that's been going around my town for a while. There isn't an apothecary in our town, and there hasn't been a traveling one around." Fabian's eyes widened. Yup. This is exactly what I was looking for. "C-Could you help us?"
Fabian smiled. "Hm... I don't know! You did call me a dick...." Lucas flinched. Fabian laughed. "I'm kidding! I'm coming, I'm coming!" Fabian pushed Lucas in a random direction. "C'mon, let's go! The faster we are, the more people I can help!"
Lucas nodded. "Right!" He then started running, Fabian going after him. Fabian would say that this was a rather unethical way of getting to a town. I mean, it's in the middle of the woods. It's understandable, but you would think that there would be at least a couple dirt roads. Fabian was this close to lighting something on fire by the third time he was hit in the face with a tree branch.
"Are you really taking me somewhere, or are you purposely taking me through a path that'll end up with me having contusions, heart failure, fractured spine, and a concussion?" Fabian asked.
"No, I am not!" Lucas retorted. "Just, deal with it for a moment!" He huffed. "God, you're insufferable."
Fabian smiled slightly at the sentence. "Hehehe, I get that a lot!"
Lucas then came to a stop, Fabian face planting into his back, causing the two to fall over. "Hey! Watch where you're going!"
"Give me more warning next time, then!" Fabian shouted back. He stood up, and huffed, crossing his arms. "I'm guessing this is it then."
Lucas sighed. "Yeah, it is."
Fabian frowned at the sight of the town. It was very run down, and there were people scattered about. It was clear that a disease had hit this place. Fabian walked forwards, before Lucas grabbed him. "Huh? What?"
"You can't just go around unprotected and stuff! You'll get the disease!" Lucas explained. "We-" Lucas was cut off by Fabian slamming a cloth onto his face. Lucas glared at him, taking the cloth off of his face.
"Shush. I'm a professional, I'll be fine. You need to cover up more anyways. Jeez, it's like you don't even know how a disease works." Fabian turned around with a smile. It'd be fine. I can't get infected by a mortal disease anyways. Fabian turned back to Lucas. "Anyways, do you want to explain something about this disease? I want to know."
Lucas hesitated. "Well, I can't really explain it. It's... easier to just show you..."
Fabian blinked, disappointed. "Really? That's your answer?" Lucas didn't respond to Fabian's snide comment however, just avoiding eye contact. Fabian hesitated. That serious, huh? Fabian sighed. "Alright, show me." Lucas nodded, walking towards a small house. Fabian followed close behind, bracing himself slightly. Lucas opened the door up, letting Fabian in first.
Fabian walked up next to the bed, looking at the sick girl. She couldn't be all too old, clearly shown by her smooth face. She had black hair that was pretty pointy and covered one side of her face. Her hair was short, and she had dark grey eyes. She slowly sat up. "Ugh, who is it?"
"It's me, Lucas." Lucas walked up. "Scarlet, this person here is an apothecary. He's, here to help you. I think."
Fabian raised his eyebrows. "That's my entire job. Why would you say 'I think'?" Lucas shrugged in response. Fabian sighed, turning back to Scarlet. "Anyways, what's the issue? Do you think you could describe the symptoms? Sore throat? Congestion? Stuffy? Fever? Anything like that?"
Scarlet paused, thinking it over, before she started coughing violently. She covered her mouth with her hands. When she brought them away, she showed her hands off, blood all over them. Fabian flinched slightly. Not good. "Guessing that's not a good sign."
"Uh..." Fabian blinked. "Okay, first off, lay the fuck down. You should not be trying to talk right now." Scarlet seemed a little irritated, but laid back down. Fabian placed his hand on her forehead. Fever. He thought to himself. "Lucas, I need you to take this towel and soak it in water." Fabian shoved a towel into Lucas's hands. "Quickly." Lucas nodded, and ran out the door. Fabian turned back to Scarlet. "Well, anything else you need to tell me about?"
Scarlet raised her wrist, and pulled her sleeve up, showing off rather large boils. "Assuming these aren't good either."
Fabian hissed. "No, they aren't." Fabian dug into his bag, looking around for a certain salve. If only I labeled these suckers. Fabian finally found the bottle he was looking for. "Here we go." Fabian opened the bottle up, and handed it to Scarlet. "Put this on." Scarlet took the bottle and poured out some onto her arm. She spread it around, and sighed in relief.
"That feels a bit better."
"Won't last." Fabian responded. "They'll come back, if connected to your disease." Fabian pulled out some other herds, placing them down on a nearby table. "I'm going to need a little bit of info from you. Some other symptoms would be nice."
Scarlet paused for a moment. "I get a headache sometimes. I feel really fatigued all the time. Fever, boils. Coughing up blood. All of that." Scarlet coughed a little. "Also, I feel a bit delirious. I'm typically not like this. Think it's getting to me a bit."
Fabian nodded. "I guess so." He placed some other herbs in a bowl, having gotten a better idea on what disease he was dealing with. It then occurred to Fabian what was missing, "Where the fuck is Lucas?"
"Who fucking knows." Scarlet responded. "He's an idiot."
"I could tell." Fabian muttered. "Hid in the bushes and stepped on a branch, which just immediately gave himself away to me. And seriously, why would you sneak up on an apothecary? The most I can do is throw weird plants at someone."
"What?"
"Nothing." Fabian laughed. Lucas then came in through the door. "Oh my God, finally!" Fabian stood up, taking the cloth from Lucas. He walked over to Scarlet and placed it on her forehead. "Get some rest. It'll increase your survival rate, anyways." Scarlet didn't respond, which made Fabian sigh in relief. Thank goodness. She seemed like the stubborn type. Thank God for deliriousness.
Fabian mixed in some other plants into his mixture, reaching into his bag, realizing he was missing something. Usually, he could very easily get the thing he needed, but someone was watching him. "Shit...."
"What?! What's wrong!?" Lucas shouted.
"Shhh!" Fabian hissed. "Be quiet! I'm just missing an herd, that's all!" Fabian walked away, heading to the door. "I gotta go get something quickly." He turned back around. "Any white birds around here?"
"Uh, yeah, I guess." Lucas whispered.
"Great!" Fabian turned around. "I've gotta go get the last thing, be right back! Stay here and watch Scarlet, would you?" Lucas nodded, and turned back to Scarlet. Fabian shut the door, and pressed himself to it, sliding down. I'm glad I convinced him to stay behind. He seemed like the type who would follow after me. Fabian walked out of the town, stopping in a small part of the forest. Fabian looked around, making sure no one was there, and slowly unfurled his own wings. He placed his hand on one, bracing himself. He quickly pulled forwards, hissing slightly at the pain. It was definitely the thing he enjoyed the least about having to fix diseases like that. There wasn't anything around here that could help him. He hadn't seen the plant he needed, but the feathers would be decent enough replacements. Fabian sighed, rubbing at the spot he'd pulled out the feathers, before he stood up and walked back to Scarlet's house. Or room, or whatever. He hadn't bothered asking what it was.
Fabian opened the door. "'Kay I'm back now."
"Oh!" Lucas admitted. "Already? Those birds don't typically show up that much." Fabian shrugged, heading back to his mixture, hoping that Lucas didn't notice the faint glow. "What do they even do?"
Fabian grinned. "Hehehe, apothecary secret!" He put a finger over his lips, as if signally to keep quiet. "But don't go trying it! You need a lot of experience with it in order for it to work!" Fabian took out his tool, mixing the substance around. "Hopefully, this'll work." Fabian said, when he finally thought that he had mixed it well enough. "If it doesn't... well... shit." Fabian took the bowl, and walked up next to Scarlet. "Hey, Scarlet. Can you sit up?"
Scarlet removed the towel on her head, and seemed a little light headed from the act. Fabian handed her the bowl. "Drink it all." She hesitated, before she carefully brought the bowl to her lips and downed the entire mixture. She brought the bowl down, exhaling. Fabian grinned. "Alright, now go get some rest. It may take a bit to work."
Scarlet nodded, seeming a little irritated. Fabian grinned. Guessing that's her personality coming back. I guess it's already working. She fell back, turning onto her side. Fabian sighed, turning back to Lucas. "Right, well, what's next?"
Lucas hesitated. "There are a lot more people."
Fabian blinked. He frowned, sighing. "Just fan-fucking-tastic...." Fabian stretched. "Welp, nothing I can do about that! I'll start getting to work!" Fabian shooed Lucas off. "Now, go tell everyone the news, I guess! That way they won't give up on life and such!"
"But-"
"No buts!" Fabian pushed him out the door. "I need to focus, so I need some alone time." Lucas nodded, and turned around. Fabian closed the door, and sighed. God, that's guy's a handful. Fabian thought to himself. He walked back to Scarlet, and leaned over the bed. He looked around, trying to determine if she was asleep or not. Fabian pushed his luck, floating slightly off the ground, looking at her face. She's asleep. Thank goodness. He stayed there for a moment, before he smiled. Good, she's already looking a bit better.
Fabian lands back on the ground, reaching back to his wing. He sighed. Ugh, this is not going to be fun. Fabian really wished he had some type of numbing salve so it would hurt less, but he hadn't thought about it. He was just going to have to deal with it. Fabian braced himself, as he pulled out another handful of feathers. He bit his cheek, preventing himself from making a sound. He did this for a little, until he thought he finally had enough. Fabian pulled out some bandages, placing them down on the spot he had pulled out his feathers. He knew they would come back quickly, but he really didn't appreciate how painful it had really been.
Fabian sighed, as he placed a lot of small bottles on the table. He took his bowl, and got to work. He hummed to himself, as he was quickly going through the motions. It didn't take him long to fill up the bottles. He picked them up and left the house, looking around to see if he could spot the green hair that belonged to Lucas. "Hey! Idiot!" Fabian called out.
Lucas, for whatever reason, responded. "'Idiot'?!" He shouted.
Fabian snickered. "Hey, you're the one who responded to it!"
Lucas let out an irritated sigh. "What's with you? You're an apothecary, but you're a major asshole."
Fabian shrugged. "I dunno! Not all apothecaries are the same! Plus, it's fun!" Fabian pushed past him. "Anyways, where am I off to?"
Lucas crossed his arms. "Well, there are a lot of different people. I'll show you."
Fabian nodded. "Alrighty then! But, quick question!" Fabian stood right in front of Lucas, staring him directly in the eyes. "Do you have it?"
Lucas thought for a moment, before he shook his head. "No! I mean, I don't think so."
Fabian nodded. "Okay then!" He turned around, a grim expression on his face. It's true he doesn't have it. But there's something off about him. Fabian grinned. I'm going to figure it out eventually. You can't hide from me. Lucas walked forwards, Fabian following behind him. They quickly got through the entire town, Fabian having just enough to help everyone who was sick.
Thankfully, it had worked, as his patients got much better over the next few days. He had checked up on all of them, and he felt very accomplished.
Fabian packed up his stuff, stretching out his back. He let out a satisfied sigh, as he let his hands drop to his side. Alrighty, where is it that I've got to go now? He wondered. He thought about it for a moment. He didn't get any chimes in his head, so there wasn't anywhere he really needed to be. Fabian shrugged. Guess I'll just travel on the road for now. Fabian exited the building he had been staying in, looking around. There were a few people out, attempting to fix up the town. It was definitely going to start getting a lot better soon. Fabian smiled at the fact. That's good. Looks like my work here is done.
Fabian grabbed the strap on his bag, as he went to leave the town.
"Wait, hold up!" Fabian turned at the voice.
"Oh hey, Lucas!" Fabian smiled. "Aw, are you sad to see me go? Sorry, but I've got places to be!"
Lucas huffed. "Listen, I just wanted to say thanks. Scarlet was my best friend. I was really scared, when she got the disease. I thought she was going to die."
Fabian grinned wider. "No problem! That's what I do, as an apothecary!" He laughed to himself at that. If I was an apothecary. "But I mean, you're wanting to ask me something else, aren't you."
"Yeah, well, first, you never told anyone your name." Lucas pointed out.
Fabian puffed his cheek out. "I don't wanna tell you my name! You'd forget it anyways!"
Lucas groaned. "Fine, whatever. But, there was also something else I wanted to ask."
Fabian tilted his head. "Yeah? What is it? I'm listening."
Lucas hesitated, seeming a bit embarrassed by what he wanted to ask. Fabian waited patiently, getting a little irritated by his hesitancy. "W-Well, I wanted to ask if I could come with you."
Fabian blinked, his eyes wide. "What?"
"You just, seem kinda lonely!" Lucas explained. "Plus, I would like to help other people as well, if I could. Sure, you're a complete dick sometimes, but I want to help. Maybe if I came with you, you'd be less lonely, and get a bit nicer."
Fabian didn't really know what to say to this. He did not expect someone to ever want to come with him. "But, what about Scarlet? Wouldn't she be all alone?"
Lucas paused. "She'd be fine. I don't think she likes me anyways." He admitted, sighing a little.
Fabian frowned. "That sucks." Fabian tapped the bottom of his chin, thinking it over. If I bring a human with me, I could be putting him in a lot more danger. Well, he'd be the one who gets into it. Fabian looked at Lucas for a moment. Maybe if he comes along, I can figure out what was off about him, and if I'll need to fix it. Fabian shrugged. "Sure! Why not! I could use a test dummy!"
"What?" Lucas asked. Fabian snickered.
"Nothing~!" He laughed, as he ran off. Lucas ran after him, shouting for him to come back. Fabian ran away, laughing like a little kid, as Lucas was attempting to catch up. They eventually exited the forest, when Fabian finally came to a stop.
Lucas was wheezing, and dropped to the floor. He laid down, face in the ground. Fabian crouched down by his head, and poked his hair. "You should really work on some cardio!" Fabian said mockingly.
"Shut up." Lucas responded, his voice a little muffled from the ground. "I hate you."
Fabian laughed. "Love you too." Fabian put his hands on Lucas's shoulders, pushing him up. "Now c'mon! We've got places to be!" Fabian stood up, Lucas standing up not soon after. "Now, the question is what role are you going to have?"
"Role?" Lucas echoed. "What does that mean?"
"Well, I mean, I really don't feel like teaching you how to do the herbal stuff and such, so I need to figure out what else you'd do!" Fabian explained. "I guess I can tell you where to find them or something. They're easy to find." Fabian reached into his bag, pulling out a small book. "Here you go, this is yours now! Try to memorize it as best you can!" Lucas took the book from Fabian. "I'll be testing you on this at some point, so you'd better be prepared!"
Lucas scoffed. "I'll be fine! This is a piece of cake!"
Fabian grinned. That's what you think. "Really~? Well, you're going to have to prove it!" The two laughed. Fabian had a nice bubbly feeling in his chest. He hadn't had a friend like this in a long time. Speaking of friends, I wonder where he is now.... Fabian shrugged. "Well, let's go! We've got people to go help!"
Lucas nodded. "Yeah!"
"Also, Lucas…." Fabian paused for a moment, smiling softly. "My name's Fabian."
Lucas blinked, not having expected that. He then grinned brightly. "Nice name! It suits you!" Fabian blushed slightly.
"Thank you…." He muttered, gripped his bag tightly. He quickly shook his head, deciding to direct his attention elsewhere. "Anyways! First test!" As they were walking, Fabian pointed to a patch of long grass. "Would that be useful for medicine?"
"I, um, maybe? I don't know." Lucas admitted, avoiding eye contact.
Fabian laughed. "You idiot, that's just some tall grass!"
Lucas crossed his arms. "W-Well, I mean, yeah, duh! I knew that! I was just, um, testing you."
"Testing me?" Fabian smirked. "But I already know what I'm doing! Why would you test me?" He gasped. "Or, could it be? That you're lying to me because you're embarrassed~?" Fabian poked Lucas's cheek. "Aw, Lucas is all blushy now! All because of some tall grass~!"
Lucas shoved Fabian away. "S-Shut up! Beginner's mistake!"
Fabian nodded, before he let out a relieved sigh. "Looks like we've got a lot of work to do…."
~~~~~~
After that, Lucas and Fabian traveled around together for a couple months. The two eventually bonded, becoming quite close friends. Fabian was still struggling to figure out what was wrong with Lucas, but hadn't thought too much of it. Lucas seemed to be fine.
Fabian yawned, attempting to keep his human facade up. It was currently nighttime, Lucas and Fabian sitting at a small campfire. "Well, that was nice. Glad that we could find something to eat out here."
Lucas nodded. "Y-Yeah...."
Fabian blinked. That's odd.... Fabian looked up at Lucas. He could hardly see it, but he noticed the slight paleness of his face. Fabian grimaced. "Lucas...." He said threateningly. "What's wrong?"
"H-Huh?" Lucas asked. "What do you mean?"
"Idiot, I mean how you're clearly uncomfortable!" Fabian pointed out. "I've been meaning to ask you this for a long ass time, but what's wrong? You've been acting all weird around me whenever I ask if you caught a disease!" Fabian's face went blank, staring Lucas down. "Could it be because you've caught something?"
Lucas coughed a little, covering his mouth with his hands. "I-I should have known you'd figure it out...."
Fabian huffed. "Why didn't you just tell me?! You're such an idiot-" Fabian cut himself off short, looking at the blood dripping onto the floor. "Oh no." Fabian sat down next to Lucas, putting his hand to his forehead. No fever? He wondered. Fabian hesitated, an uneasy feeling coming up on him. Does this disease... prevent his body from having one? Fabian brought his hand away. That's... unsettling. What's up with his immune system? "Lucas, since when have you had this?"
Lucas didn't say anything. He seemed guilty.
Fabian glared at him. "Lucas…. When. Did. You. Get. This?"
"B-Back... when you came to our town...."
Fabian punched the ground. "Are you KIDDING me?!" Lucas flinched slightly. "You're telling me I could have dealt with this literal months ago?" Fabian groaned, covering his face. "Great, just fantastic! I can't fucking believe this, you're such an idiot!" He shuffled around in his bag, pulling out a bowl and some other herbs. "Go lay down, bitch."
Lucas was a bit hesitant, but did it anyway. Fabian let out an irritated sigh. It clearly isn't what those other people had. He doesn't have any boils, nor does he have a fever. Fabian huffed. I really hope it isn't what I think it is.... Fabian quickly mashed something together, bringing it over to Lucas. "I'm going to fucking kill you after this, just so you know."
Lucas laughed softly. "Y-Yeah, I guess so...." He down the mixture, and laid there. Fabian sat down on the ground next to him, making sure that he didn't try to do anything too drastic. Fabian picked up a nearby stick, drawing the dirt. If it was what he hoped it was, Lucas would start looking better in a couple more minutes. But, if it was what he feared it was... Lucas would be looking a lot worse in a couple more minutes.
Fabian waited.
And waited.
Dread was filling him. Oh no. He admitted. Shit. Fabian stood up suddenly. "Lucas. Wake up."
Lucas sighed. "I was already awake."
Fabian stared down at him. The serious expression on his face clearly put off Lucas, as he looked at him a bit shocked. "I need you to be as calm as possible. If you freak out, you could just die from shock."
Lucas nodded hesitantly. "Okay, I guess."
Fabian inhaled deeply, trying to gather his own courage. He sighed, and mumbled to himself. "This is going to be so hard for me to do...." He shook his head. "Well, whatever. Lucas, the disease you have isn't curable." Fabian pointed out. "But wait, before you freak out, I do have an option to help you." Fabian paused. "It's just that, the option isn't the greatest one...."
Lucas was clearly freaking out, but somehow kept his cool. "O-Okay. I'll hear it."
Fabian dug his nails into his arm. "I need you to listen to me. I'm going to ask you some rather... absurd questions, but I need you to answer truthfully." Fabian said. "And this isn't a joke. It's far too important for it to be like that." Lucas nodded, sitting up. He was most definitely confused, but Fabian could care less.
"Lucas, are you okay with the fact that you'll never be normal again?"
Lucas stared at Fabian oddly. Fabian waited for an answer. "I'd be fine with it. I mean, I never was to begin with." Fabian sighed. That's not what I mean, but whatever.
"Do you promise to follow my orders, no matter how drastic they may seem?"
"Yeah, I mean, I've already been doing that." Lucas responded.
He's so confused. Fabian noted.
"Are you okay with the fact that you may never see someone that you care about again?"
Lucas hesitated at that one. He thought for a moment, before he nodded his head. "I-I think so. I can... always meet new people." Fabian was a little surprised at that answer, having expected Lucas to say no.
Fabian felt his body getting ready for what would happen. "Will you devote yourself to the betterment of humanity?"
Lucas seemed far too weirded out by that question. "Uh, yeah? But I mean, how would I be able to do that?"
Fabian didn't respond to his question. "Alright. Last one. Do you promise to never betray me?"
Lucas nodded. "I would never do that!"
Fabian stood up, smiling to himself. "Well then, Lucas...." Fabian grabbed his hand, pulling him up. "Welcome to Heaven." And immediately, Fabian dragged him upwards, his own wings bursting out, letting the two fly upwards. Lucas immediately freaked out. Fabian went faster, getting closer to the clouds, the wind flinging his hair around. He reached his hand out, quickly drawing the circle, and flew through. The two broke through the clouds, Fabian landed down onto the fluffy substance, dropping Lucas onto it as well. "Well, that was fun!" Fabian looked over to Lucas, before he paused. "Funny, you didn't get wings... guess that's because of your illness!"
"Excuse me, but what the fuck just happened?" Lucas asked.
Fabian shrugged, placing his new found button on the cuff of his sleeve. "It's called magic~." Fabian responded. "Not really!" He laughed, getting into Lucas's face. "You sir, just became an angel! Congratulations!" Fabian clapped his hands, using a slight bit of fire magic to create something like fireworks. "Woohoo! I'm not alone anymore!"
Lucas's brain appeared to be malfunctioning, as he was just rubbing his temples, pure confusion on his face. "What the fuck...."
Fabian laughed. "Don't worry, bro. It's nothing too exciting. You just get to have magic, and also have to save people all around the world." Fabian smiled. "No pressure! It's just that a lot of people depend on you to commit miracles!"
Lucas groaned. "It was hard enough when it was just us two walking around!" Lucas stopped at that sentence. "Wait a minute, why were you just walking around when you have," Lucas referred to Fabian's wings. "Those?"
Fabian blinked. "Seriously? Do you think I can just fly around like an idiot out in the open? If I did, I would certainly get hunted down for my wings, and to be honest, that's a big no thanks from me." Fabian grinned. "But I mean, I can explain some of my other behaviors. I never protected myself from diseases because I couldn't catch them! Immunity, and such. You got a disease that couldn't possibly be cured by anything on Earth, so the only solution was to do this!" Fabian pointed at Lucas. "But, I guess the disease caused you to not get any wings. That really sucks."
Lucas shrugged. "That makes sense... I guess. Not really, nevermind. I'm so confused...."
"Understandable." Fabian grinned. "It'll take a while to get used to, I would think. Don't worry, we won't be doing anything soon, just so you can get used to it or something, but I will have to be heading out at some point. Heard that something is happening in some other town."
Lucas sat there, nodding. Fabian sat down next to him, patting him on the back. "I'll show you the ropes! Until you're comfortable, I'll go to work by myself! You'll have to do a decent amount of learning by yourself, but I think you'll be fine. Just don't stop believing! You're good at that, right?"
Lucas nodded. "Yeah, I guess so."
~~~~~~~
Fabian woke up, finding himself still on Matias. "Morning, sleepyhead~." Matias grinned
Fabian pouted. "Hey! That's my thing!" Fabian stood up. "I'm firing you."
"Wait what?" Matias stood up as well.
"Just kidding! It was a prank!" Fabian snickered. Matias sighed.
He put a hand to his forehead. "What am I going to do with you...."
Fabian shrugged. "I dunno!" He yawned, stretching a little, before he smiled. "Righto! I'm going back down to check on that town I may have... blown up a little." Fabian said, a little guilty. "Gotta make sure they'll be able to recover from it!"
Matias nodded. "I'll come with you."
Fabian blinked, a little unsure. He thought for a moment, before he nodded as well. "Sure, why not?" Fabian grabbed Matias's hand, causing the angel to blush a little. "Let's go!" Fabian dove down through the clouds, dragging Matias along with him. Matias laughed a little at Fabian's high energy, as the two flew down to check on what damage had been done.
