Miracle could hardly believe her own eyes. The friend she thought that she'd lost years ago was suddenly standing in front of her. However, his eyes held something of murderous intent, which made her feel incredibly nervous. "You're alive…?" She said, testing the waters.
Matias blinked slowly, suspicion all over his face. "I am. And I need you to step back."
"What does that- Matias, don't you know who that is?" Miracle countered. "He's-"
"My best friend." Matias cut her off quickly. "I don't care that he's causing issues, this is my own choice. I thought you would have been able to connect those dots, Miracle."
Miracle hesitated, unsure of what to say next. Matias seemed incredibly insistent on staying in front of Fabian, refusing Miracle of making any attacks on the boy in the grass. Fabian coughed slightly, standing up. "O-Oh, right. You two have history… I nearly forgot…."
Matias was quickly brought back to reality, seeming to have been trapped up in his thoughts. He turned around, the angry expression immediately disappearing. "Are you okay?"
"Oh yeah, I'm completely fine." Fabian smiled.
"Fabian, now isn't the time!" Matias shouted.
"Okay, okay!" Fabian let out a weak laugh, sighing a little. "I get it, but I'll be fine. We've just gotta get back up." He explained, pointing up towards the clouds.
"What about-"
"We've just gotta go… sorry…." Fabian glanced over at Harper. "She's just humoring me right now, I know it."
Harper frowned, glancing away for a moment before standing up and easily breaking out of the restraints. Fabian immediately fell forwards, Matias quickly catching him and stepping backwards away from the two girls. "I'm not going to do anything." Harper mumbled.
"I can't trust you on that." Matias replied, shifting Fabian around in his arms into a better holding position.
"Y-You can." Fabian muttered. "She won't."
"You don't know that." Matias countered. "I'm sorry, but I'm taking all of the precautions this time around."
Fabian went silent, nodding his head a little. "Okay then…."
Miracle stared at the pair, millions of questions running through her head. Anything she'd remembered beforehand she couldn't remember at all, her mind dead set focusing on Matias. "Matias… why…?"
Matias turned to glance at Miracle, hesitating slightly. "Listen, Miracle… I'm assuming you thought that I died. Well, I didn't. Fabian came and had a talk with me. And, you can probably guess what's happened."
Miracle quickly connected the dots, her eyes widening. "You're… an angel, aren't you?"
"Ding ding ding…!" Fabian smiled, waving his hands. "T-That's exactly it. I couldn't kill him… of course not…." He muttered, looking down. "He's too important to me, even if there are high stakes."
Matias hesitated slightly. "Really?"
"Mhm." Fabian didn't say much else, opting to go silent.
Matias sighed, looking back at the other two. "Well, I'm going to be leaving."
Miracle shook his head. "You can't leave, not again. I don't believe it!" She shouted, pointing an accusing finger at Fabian. "I don't believe his words! He's a liar, I know it for sure!" Fabian seemed slightly surprised at the accusation, but remained silent. "You can't go trusting people like that! Those who toy with other people's lives, and have fun destroying those lives! I know you two have history, but is that history really that important?!"
"Oh my God, would you just shut up?!" Matias shouted, making Miracle flinched. "Are you done yet?! Because I need to tell you that Fabian's nothing like that! Sure, he acts like that, but have you ever considered that he's, I don't know, lying?! You said it yourself, he lies all the time!"
"Well, he's probably lying to you right now!" Miracle countered. "He's probably tricked you to be on your side!"
"Well then he wouldn't be the only one!" Matias shouted, getting more and more defensive by the minute. "Hydema over here can say much else, can she?!"
Harper's breathing hitched, going still. Miracle glanced at her, before turning back to glare at Fabian. "It's probably another lie. Harper isn't that kind of person! She wouldn't do it, and I know you wouldn't do this unless you've been manipulated!"
"ME?!" Matias screamed. "Oh, would you just shut the fuck up for once! You're so incredibly selfish, that you can't realize that I'm different from whatever ideology you've given me! So the moment that a break apart from whatever script you've written for me, you get upset and lash out at everyone! This isn't any different from the time I went missing!" Matias let out an irritated sigh, giving Miracle a glare. "Fabian is my best friend! If you knew a thing, you'd realize that I'm willing to do almost anything to make sure Fabian stays alive. After what already happened, I don't want to lose him again."
Miracle went silent, not being able to believe those harsh words came from Matias. Is that… is that really what I've been doing this entire time? "Matias… calm down…." Fabian spoke up. "She's your friend, isn't she?"
Matias paused for a second, before slowly shaking his head. "No. Not anymore, at least." For whatever reason, it was that sentence that made Miracle feel like bursting into tears. Matias sighed again, his anger seeming to level back out. He turned away from Miracle, going silent. "Bye." He said simply. He ran forward a little, before spreading out his own wings and flying away.
Miracle went completely silent, as did Harper. Harper glanced over at Miracle, before walking towards her. "Are you okay…?" Harper asked quietly.
Miracle hesitated, before bursting into tears. She started sobbing on the spot, making Harper panic. She's originally been so happy, to see what she thought was her best friend back from the dead. But as it turned out, he had just ended their friendship right there. They were on two opposite sides of a war, there was no way they could be friends. Harper walked over next to Miracle, rubbing circles into her back. "Shh… calm down. It'll be alright…." Miracle continued sobbing, not a single word escaping out of her mouth. She was crying it all out, most likely to the point where she'd get too dehydrated to keep crying.
Her wails died down, but she was still crying silently. Harper decided this was the time to start talking. "You know… you're not the only one. After all, that Lucas kid was Scarlet's friends. And Fabian… well we were a lot closer than friends…."
Miracle sniffled. "B-But… those analogies don't work…." She mumbled, rubbing at her eyes. "Matias… I'm pretty sure he hates me."
Harper frowned. "That's… you don't know that. He could have just been mad."
Miracle shook his head. "No, he means almost everything he says. Especially when he gets mad…."
Harper sighed. "Well then, I guess I'll just be blunt. I agree with him. You do have those issues. When people don't do the things you want, you tend to get rather angry, and sometimes aggressive."
Miracle hesitated, taking those words in. "D-Do I really?"
"I'm not entirely sure. You'll have to ask someone else." Harper continued. The two then went into an awkward silence, wondering what to say next. Miracle was still crying, breaking the silence every now and then. Harper withdrew her hand from Miracle's back, stepping away. "I'm going to go and gather everyone… we're going to be heading out soon."
Miracle only nodded a reply, as Harper turned around to leave. She let out a shuddering breath, covering her face with her hands. She could hardly believe all of the occurrences of the past few minutes, almost trying to convince herself it wasn't real. But it was. It was most definitely real. She wasn't sure what she was supposed to do anymore, if her 'best friend', was now her worst enemy.
