Never Again

Matias burst through the clouds, lowering Fabian down onto the ground. "Are you okay?!"

"Matias, calm down…." Fabian sighed, sitting up. "I'm fine, I'm fine. You don't have to worry so much."

"You've just been stabbed!" Matias complained. "You're not fine!"

"I can fix it, no problem!' Fabian smiled. "Just calm your titties, I'll be fine."

Matias frowned at the comment, but went silent as Fabian held his hands around the wound. A soft green light appeared, the two staying silent as Fabian healed. Matias paused for a second, before tears started spilling from his eyes. "Matias/" Fabian asked, having noticed immediately. "Why are you… crying?"

"You almost died!' Matias shouted. "I-I couldn't handle seeing that happen again! It was already terrible… but this time it would have been my fault!"

Fabian gave him a confused look. "What do you mean? It would have been Miracle's fault."

"Miracle's so insistent because of me, I know it." Matias admitted. "I know what I said back there, but I'm pretty sure she considers me her best friend. And, she hates you since she believed that you killed me."

"Huh." Fabian admitted, glancing away. "Still not your fault though." Matias went silent again, making Fabian wonder why he was so guilty in the first place. I wouldn't think he'd feel so guilty over someone he apparently hates…. "Speaking of Miracle, weren't you friends? Why would you do a thing like that?"

Matias hesitated, thinking for a moment. "I… I don't want to be friends with someone trying to kill you."

Fabian blinked, seeming slightly surprised. "Really? That… doesn't seem like you at all…."

"How could it not?" Matias let a small smile appear on his face. "You're my best friend. When I thought you were gone, I was devastated. So were you, weren't you? That reunion was probably the best thing we had in our life."

Fabian nodded, letting a smile of his own spread across his face. "I can't lie about that one. It made me feel so elated, to know you didn't die due to my mistake."

"It wasn't fully your fault." Matias told him. "More so my parents."

"I guess." Fabian shrugged. "But anyways, shifting away from that topic, let me go over the fight." Fabian sighed, lifting one of his hands away from his wound. "So, I was able to capture Hydema quite easily. That's good for me." Fabian waved his finger around. "However, weird thing that happened, Miracle started getting faster and stronger in the middle of our fight. It was, odd… to say the least."

Matias hesitated at that statement. "That is… certainly odd. I don't understand why that would happen."

"Maybe she was desperate, and the sword just got stronger?" Fabian shrugged. "I don't really know, I'm taking a couple guesses at this point. I got careless, I'll admit." I'll have to ask Layla about the sword a bit more later. Just to make sure of a few things. Fabian pouted, tapping his cheek with his finger. "C'mon, why does everything have to be so cryptic! I just wanna know what the big glowy sword does!"

"I'd say you're the most cryptic thing in this whole situation, to be honest." Matias answered. "Saying stuff about a plan, and not telling one anything."

"Okay, since when was this about me?" Fabian asked, frowning at Matias.

"This whole time. Y'know, this was about your fight."

"That's right. Never." Fabian smiled, looking away. "In all seriousness though, that did give me a heart attack. Remind me to never go out and fight her without a weapon of my own."

Matias gave a reassuring smile. "I'll keep it in mind."

"Oh, you two are back." The two looked up, spotting Lucas standing over them. Lucas immediately noticed the wound on Fabian's stomach, a look of panic immediately spreading across his face. "Oh fuck! Are you okay?"

Fabian smiled. "Yup! I'm doing a-okay! I'll be fixed up in a moment, no need to worry!"

Lucas came and sat down next to them, the amount of worry on face lowering. "What happened?"

"Fabian got reckless." Matias admitted, sighing. "He went and fought the Godslayer without a weapon to defend himself."

"Hey, I held my own before she started cheating!" Fabian retorted.

"She wasn't cheating, Fabian. That was a sword fight." Matias countered.

Fabian puffed out his cheeks, crossing his arms, and turning away from him. Lucas sighed, shaking his head. "Why do you have to be this way…."

"Trauma." Fabian answered. "No, just kidding. It's just really fun, being an asshole."

"Bro."

"Hey! You could try it out!" Fabian responded, standing up. His wound had healed, so he was free to move around. "I promise, it's pretty fun! But I mean, don't go randomly beating people up. That isn't fun for anyone."

"Yeah, I can guess that." Lucas responded. "You've been complaining about it for a while now."

"This is the only place I can complain, so of course I am." Fabian replied, shrugging a little. "Well, I'm going to go grab some new clothes, since these got ripped. You two have fun! I'll see ya later!" Fabian turned around and left, leaving the two angels by himself.

Matias let out a relieved sigh. "Holy fucking shit I was so fucking worried about him."

"Woah, swears." Lucas reminded him. "You don't typically do that."

"Yeah, I know that." Matias put a hand to his forehead. "I just… I was really worried he was going to die. When I arrived at the scene and saw what happened, it made me really mad…."

"You said something terrible, didn't you?" Lucas asked.

"Mhm. But I don't really care." Matias admitted. "She needed that lesson taught to her. If she's going to listen to anyone, it'd probably be me."

Lucas went silent, before slowly nodding his head. "I guess so. But I never knew you also had history with someone on the other side of this war." Lucas laughed slightly. "Funny, how that works."

"Well, I think Fabian does too." Matias went on. "Hydema, for example. Those two seem to know each other well."

"Do they?"

Matias nodded. "Mhm. They had this… weird exchange. They seem to be fighting, but they refuse to hurt one another. I don't really know why, Fabian has called Hydema the enemy of this entire thing. But he just… won't do anything to her? It's confusing, really."

Lucas hesitated, thinking over the information for a while. "That's definitely weird. Maybe we could ask him later?"

"I don't know." Matias said, looking away. "I'm not sure if he could tell us. He's been saying how he has to keep things secret, otherwise things might end up going wrong."

"How, even?" Lucas asked, crossing his arms. "We're his friends! Can't he just tell us?"

"If he could, he probably would at this point. Or I mean, at least me." Matias sighed. "But, it must be really important. Let's trust him on this. He'll explain it to us eventually, I'm sure of it."

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Really? I've been having my doubts lately."

Matias's eyes widened in shock. "WHAT?!"

Lucas raised his hands up, as if to defend himself. "I'm sorry! It's just, I've felt so out of the loop, and I'm not sure? I'm just… really worried about Scarlet, is all."

Matias sighed, calming himself down quickly, before he did something he regretted. "That makes sense… sorry for shouting. It's just that, I guess since I've known Fabian for so long, I can't imagine not trusting him. I guess it's harder for you, since you haven't known him nearly as long."

"That could be it…." Lucas muttered. "I've known Scarlet for a long time, longer than Fabian. So, it could be something similar! I think…."

Matias nodded in agreement. "Most likely." He stood up, glancing at the sky. "It's getting darker. We can continue this tomorrow."

"Matias, are you okay?" Lucas suddenly asked.

"Huh…?"

"You've just been… a lot more serious lately. And distant? You just seem off, is all."

"O-Oh…." Matias mumbled, rubbing his arm. "I never really noticed… sorry about that."

Lucas shook his head. "No problem, there's no need to be sorry!" Lucas stood up, crossing his arms. "Welp, I'm gonna go as well! See you tomorrow, Matias!" Lucas turned around, leaving Matias completely by himself.

Matias watched him leave, before turning around and staring at the sky. Why I can never see Fabian in a bad light… it's weird…. We're so protective of each other for no reason, we like staying together, it's odd. Is it really just because of the past? Maybe because we both got abandonment issues after we thought the other was gone.

Matias smiled softly. And then when we finally saw each other again, we just couldn't leave each other alone again.
