Isla woke up and by then, the sun had risen and was shining down on her brightly. She lifted her head and winced, bringing a hand to her forehead where she hit her head on the log. When she touched the spot, pain rushed through her veins. Pulling her hand away, she saw there was no blood and sighed in relief, but there was a bruise for sure.
She sat up and lifted a hand to shield herself from the sun that glared down, then she lifted herself up slowly and gripped her trident with one hand, using it to pull herself up. Once she was stood straight, she opened her bag to see the damage.
The beef was coated in blood, so that was out of the question. The canteen was covered from the outside, so it was still usable, and the gun was also covered but still usable, so she threw the beef away and shouldered the bag, heading for the beach to maybe clean herself up.
Isla was hurt, but she tried her best to get to the beach, hoping to run into someone she knew on the way. The blood had dried all over her now and was sticky in some places.
Finally, Isla reached the beach. There were people stood in the distance, and she could hear loud voices, it sounded like Johanna screaming her head off, but Isla thought she must have been hallucinating.
Meanwhile with the others who were slightly away from Isla. Johanna had just started screaming at Katniss, and Finnick was about to grab her and pull her away before some real damage happened, when Peeta called out to everyone.
"Guys! There's someone there." He pointed at Isla who was stood, further away from the trees now, and fully on the beach. She held her trident in her hand, and was covered in blood, just like Johanna, Wiress and Beetee.
Everyone turned to look at the person, who lifted their head, squinting. No one could tell who it was, until they saw the red hair hidden underneath all the blood, then their eyes trailed to the trident and they realised who it was. "ISLA?" Finnick yelled.
Isla's eyes closed in relief and she dropped to her knees, the trident falling to the ground beside her. "FINNICK!"
Finnick dropped everything and ran over to her. He dropped to his knees in front of her and held her face in both his hands, trying his best to wipe away the blood. She leaned into his touch and he then wrapped his arms around her. Isla melted into his arms and leaned her head on his shoulder.
Then, he pulled away and lifted her up into his arms, carrying her over to the others. Johanna walked over and grabbed her trident, bringing it as well. Finnick laid her out on the ground beside everyone. She opened her eyes and looked at Katniss and Peeta. "I'm sorry, I meant to find you, but Cashmere came at me, and I had to leave." She lifted her hand and the golden bracelet glinted even under all the blood.
Katniss nodded. "It's fine, what's important is that you're okay."
"I'll be fine." She turned her head to look at the others and smiled at the District Three tributes. Beetee was in bad shape, and Wiress didn't look too well either, she was mumbling words and spinning around in circles. She then looked at Johanna and held out a hand.
"Hey Jo."
Johanna grabbed her hand. "Hey Isla. Seems you got caught in the blood rain too, huh?"
"Yeah. It wasn't nice. At all." Isla sat up and scrunched up her face at the memory of puking all her food out. "Where's Blight?"
"He- uhm. He didn't make it. There's a forcefield around the arena, and he hit it."
"Oh- I'm so sorry."
"It's alright. He wasn't much, but he was from home." Johanna smiled sadly, before she cleared her throat and let go of Isla's hand. "What have you been up to?"
"I swam to the Cornucopia, grabbed two tridents, I have no idea where the other one is. Grabbed a pack and some knives. I fought Cashmere a little, killed another two tributes. I saw the lightning and then it started raining and I thought it was water, but it was blood, and it was terrible. Knocked myself out on a log, and then woke up and came to the beach."
"Let's get you washed up." Finnick held a hand out to Isla and pulled her up. Then, he brought her to the water and made her sit down again. "Rough day, huh?"
"You can say that again." She sighed, scooping water onto her body and scrubbing. Finnick sat behind her, pouring water over her hair and rinsing the blood from it, it trickled down the back of her suit and into the water, staining it a pale red around them.
"What have you been up to?" The red head asked, unzipping her swimsuit and sitting in a simple camisole and boxer shorts. She dipped the swim suit in the water and scrubbed it ferociously, ridding it of all the blood, then she squeezed the water from it and stood, putting it back on.
Finnick pulled her back down and placed a hand on her cheek, brushing his thumb over the cut on her cheek and causing her to wince, he then brushed her hair out of her face and looked at the bruise on her forehead.
"Cashmere?"
"The cut yeah, the bruise no, that was me, I couldn't see anything when the blood rain started and I was stumbling all over the place, ended up tripping and smacking my head on a log." She smiled sadly. "Now answer my question, what have you been up to?"
"I went with Katniss and Peeta, saved his life, they still don't trust me. We ran from some deadly fog, and monster monkey mutts, and ended up here. Oh, and a morphling saved Peeta's life."
"Wow, that must have been exhausting. Finn, are you hurt?"
"The fog burned a little, but we managed to get the worse of it out by going in the water, I'll be fine Isla. I promise." He leaned his forehead on hers, and she closed her eyes. It was peaceful for a while, but then they had to head back to the rest.
Finnick began speaking about the fog and the monkeys, while the rest indulged in the sweet shellfish that reminded Isla of home. Katniss seemed like a mother, trying to coax something into Wiress who was hysterical and kept muttering "Tick, Tock."
Katniss and Johanna end up on guard while the rest took a break and rested. Isla leaned her back against a tree, and Finnick laid his head in her lap, closing his eyes. She ran her fingers through his half-wet half-dry hair and brushed it away from his eyes.
The flash of lightning jolts everyone back, and they all sit upright, eyes wide at the bright light. In the distance, Isla can see Katniss rise from where she sat with Johanna and Wiress, with a look of realisation on her face, as if she's figured something out.
She ran over. "Get up, get up- we have to move." She began explaining the clock theory, about how the arena is a clock, and each segment is a different horror, and each one appeared in a specific hour. She woke Wiress and exchanged a few words with her.
They packed up the things, weapons and bowls, and started to move. Beetee refused to let Peeta help him repeating "Wire," until Johanna grabbed a wire from the sand that was coated in blood and handed it to him, explaining that this was how he got hurt.
Then things got intense with Katniss and Johanna, both of them at each other's throat. Finnick had to step in before things got bloody, and suggested heading to the Cornucopia to stock up on weapons and supplies. So, they headed there and Peeta laid Beetee down in the shade that the golden horn provided.
Wiress was like an excited child, she scampered to the water with Beetee's wire and began cleaning it, singing a song about a mouse going up a clock, suddenly she stood and points at the beach. "Two."
Katniss nodded as everyone looks over to see fog seeping onto the beach, good thing they decided to move. Peeta praised her and Isla smiled at her brightly.
Everyone went around looking to stock up on weapons. Katniss rummaged around for more arrows and fills up her quiver, Johanna found some axes and she was the happiest she's been since the games started, sinking them into the sun-softened gold of the Cornucopia.
Isla looked around and found some more knives, ones that looked sharper and more deadly. She ditched her old ones that were coated in blood and shoved the new ones into her belt. Then, she searched for tridents as she lost one of hers. She finds a golden one and tucked it into the holster on her back, gripping the bloodied one in her hand.
She met back up with Finnick and Johanna and they headed towards where Katniss and Peeta were bent over a large leaf, and Peeta was attempting to draw the clock which was the arena. They started labelling it with the different horrors in each segment, asking the others if they had heard anything, and Isla mentioned the sound of insects in the segment beside the blood rain.
Then, Wiress stopped singing and they all turned to see a dripping-wet Gloss letting Wiress slide to the ground, her throat slit open in a bright red smile. Before anyone could move, Katniss had her arrow deep in his right temple, and in the time it takes her to reload, Isla had lifted her bloody trident and threw it right at Cashmere, burying it in her chest. Three cannons boomed simultaneously.
To her right she could see Finnick knock a spear away from Peeta and take Enobaria's knife in his thigh, but before she could check on him, she had to duck as a knife is thrown at her.
Just as Isla was about to run for Brutus and Enobaria, the Cornucopia starts spinning very very fast. Isla feels herself being pulled to the water and she collapses to the ground, trying desperately to find something to hold onto. She pulls out a knife and sticks it into the rocky island of the Cornucopia, trying desperately to hold on.
Her hand starts slipping from the knife as water splashed all around them, making everything slippery. Then, she had to move as a rack of spears toppled over and went rushing towards her. She finally lost her grip on the knife and fell back into the raging water.
Her first instinct was to close her eyes and dive down as low as she could with all the waves up top. As soon as she dove down, she swam away from the Cornucopia and then swam up, surfacing. Coughs rocked her body and she checked to see if her trident and daggers were still with her, and they were.
Her eyes darted around, seeing the three dead bodies had been tossed into the water as well, and then her eyes landed on Beetee who was barely staying afloat. She swam towards him and wrapped an arm around his waist, bringing him back towards the Cornucopia.
She helped him up and then pulled herself up, sitting on her heels and coughing, wiping water from her eyes. Finnick rushed over, seeing her red hair and dropped down to his knees beside her, wrapping her in a hug. She returned it happily.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Katniss dive into the water and retrieve something that glimmered in the sun- the wire coil.
"Let's get off this stinking island." Johanna muttered.
"Couldn't have said it better myself."
