Soon enough, June was here, and Theodore watched as his girlfriend paced around their dorm, running her hands through her hair frustratedly. "What's wrong, Lara?"
"The third task is tomorrow, and I don't think I've prepared Harry enough. What if he gets hurt, what if he gets really, really hurt. What if he dies?" Elara stopped pacing, and her eyes widened in fear. "That- oh Merlin."
He could see her eyes starting to well up with tears and immediately stood and wrapped her in a hug, supporting her as she basically slumped against him. "Elara, you've prepared him very well, and he's been training so hard for so long. I couldn't think of a better teacher for defensive spells. Stop doubting yourself and have some faith in him and yourself. Got it?"
"Got it." She mumbled into his chest, finally wrapping her arms around his neck and standing on her tiptoes. "Thank you, Theodore."
"Anytime."
When the next day arrived, Elara had calmed down slightly, but she was still slightly nervous for later tonight when the task would be taking place.
Meanwhile, Harry had walked into the chamber that McGonagall had told him the champions families were congregating in. He half expected the Dursleys to be there, and was delighted when he saw Sirius stood there.
"Hey, Harry." Sirius grinned as he wrapped his godson in a tight hug. "How's it going?"
"Alright. Glad you're here."
"I had to come support you, and I suppose the idea of surprising Elara was too tempting as well. Where is she?"
"Class, I'd assume. Unless she's skipping with Theodore or Bianca."
"Alright, well, give me a tour then, I've missed this place. We can see her during lunch." Sirius beamed as he wrapped an arm around Harry and let him lead him around the castle, reminiscing of his own Hogwarts days.
Soon enough, they headed back to the Great Hall for lunch, and Sirius was very excited to see Elara. He hadn't seen her at school before, and he was curious about her friends. Harry led him to the Slytherin table, and from the distance they could see Elara sat there, a smile spread across her face as she took aim with her spoon and then managed to hit Bianca with some mashed potatoes, causing the Zabini heiress to gasp dramatically.
Harry waved to Sirius before heading to the Gryffindor table where his other friends were sat. Sirius stood behind his daughter, and then spoke. "Elara Luna Black! Why are you tossing good mashed potatoes?"
"FUCKING HELL!" She yelled, causing everyone in the hall to look over at her. She stood and cleared her throat. "Sorry! Go back to whatever you were doing." She then turned and saw her father stood behind her, looking very amused. "Dad!" She launched herself into his open arms and hugged him tightly.
"Hey, little moon."
"Little moon? The fuck kind of nickname is that?" Elara whipped her wand out and pointed it at the person who said that, Miles Bletchley.
"One more time Bletchley, piss me off one more time and I swear to god, that bludger will seem like a kiss." She hissed, making him turn away quickly. She turned back to her Dad.
"El..."
"Yes?"
"You reminded me so much of Regulus right there." Sirius smiled fondly.
"Really?" She grinned happily.
"Really. Now introduce me to your friends."
"Alright. Come sit." Elara sat back down beside Theodore, and Sirius sat on her other side. "This is Bianca, who you obviously know." Bianca waved, still wiping the potatoes from her cheek with a napkin.
"You look so much like your mother." Sirius commented.
"Thank you." Bianca smiled happily.
"That's Blaise, he's Bianca's younger brother." Blaise waved. "And, someone who you actually haven't met yet. I've unofficially adopted him by the way. This is Draco, he's Narcissa's son." Elara pointed to Draco who was sat across from her.
He had a nervous smile on his face as he waved at his mother's cousin. "Hi."
"Lovely to meet you Draco, so pleased you're not like your father. No offense."
"Oh, none taken, don't worry. I would have left home way earlier had it not been for him, and me not wanting to leave Mother alone with him."
"Well, when you do, you're always welcome at our place." Sirius smiled, and Elara nodded beside him.
"Adrian!" Elara called to a boy a few seats away. He stood and walked over, standing behind Draco and Bianca. "Hey, my dad wanted to meet my friends. Dad, this is Adrian, he's our Quidditch captain."
"Not for long," The seventh year boy winked. "Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Black."
"Likewise, Adrian. What do you mean not for long?" Sirius asked curiously.
"It's my last year, and there's rumours and whispers going around that Elara Black is taking over for me next year." Adrian smiled before waving once more and heading back to his friends.
"Captain? El, I'm so proud of you!" He hugged his daughter tightly.
"Thanks, Dad. There's two more people I want you to meet. Daphne and Astoria, the two girls I wrote to you about."
"Let's go meet them, then." He stood and helped her stand. They walked down the side of the table after Elara kissed Theodore's cheek goodbye and waved to the others. They approached a blonde and a brunette.
"Daph, Tori." They looked up and smiled when they saw Elara but looked confused when they noticed the familiar looking man stood beside her. "Hey guys."
"Hi, El." Astoria smiled as Daphne waved. "Who's this?"
"This is my dad. He wanted to meet you guys after I told him so much about you." She explained. Her father crouched lower and held a hand to Daphne.
"Sirius Black. Nice to meet you." She took his hand and shook it, a hesitant smile growing on her face.
"Daphne Greengrass." He then held his hand out to Astoria, raising his eyebrows and sending her a teasing smile.
"And who might you be?"
"I'm Astoria Greengrass, but you can call me Tori." She shook his hand, giggling.
"Well, it's lovely to meet you as well, Tori. I'm looking forward to having you both over during the summer. I'm sure we'll all have a lot of fun." The younger girl smiled, and after Elara waved to them, the father and daughter headed over to the Gryffindor table, to where Harry was sat with Ron and Hermione. Fred and George nearby, with Lee.
"Afternoon, Gryffindors." Elara greeted as she sat down beside Harry, wrapping an arm around his shoulder and kissing the side of his forehead. Sirius smiled down at his daughter and godson, before sitting down beside Hermione, opposite Harry.
"Hey, El." Ron greeted as Hermione smiled and waved.
"You ready for tonight, Harry?" Elara asked as she reached down and grabbed some juice, pouring it into her goblet.
"No, but I'm prepared enough. I did have an amazing teacher." He replied, winking at her.
"He does have a point, El. You are a good teacher, ever considered being a Professor?" Hermione asked.
"And spend the rest of my life with Snivellus? I'll pass." Elara snorted, rolling her eyes. Sirius grinned and reached out his hand for a high-five, which she gave right for him, earning her a glare of disapproval from Hermione. "I'm only kidding around Hermione. Besides, teaching means rules, and I don't do that well with rules, especially when they involve children. Besides, I already know what I want to be."
"I'd bloody well hope so, you graduate next year." Sirius raised his eyebrows.
"What do you want to be?" Ron said, the sentence muffled as he had chicken stuffed in his mouth.
"A Hit Witch, or a Dragonologist. Leaning more towards Dragons, because Hit Witch means ministry and that is just not something I'd want to deal with every single fucking day." She shrugged, winking at her father when she said the Dragon part, causing him to smile at her wolfishly.
"Following in Charlie's footsteps, eh?" Fred asked, him and George joining into the conversation.
"He'll be pleased to hear that."
"Oh he already knows, and so does Dad. I've sent a letter to Charlie, and he's managed to get me an internship at the sanctuary he works in, in Romania, for this summer. I'm very excited." Elara started off nonchalantly and ended with a bright smile spread across her face.
"That's brilliant, El! But does that mean we won't see you this summer?" Harry frowned.
"Yeah." She looked saddened. "Charlie's picking me up from the station, and I'll be back maybe two or three days before next term starts. Theodore's not very happy about this either, but I promised him I'd take him next time."
"Don't worry, El, we'll make sure Theodore isn't too grumpy this summer." George winked, his twin nodding in agreement.
"Thanks, boys." When they nodded, she turned back to Harry.
"I'll miss you all too, but I'll try and bring back souvenirs. Actually, Harry, do you want to come with me?"
"With you? To Romania?" Harry's jaw dropped. Did Elara really want to spend that much time with him?
"Hell yes!" Harry looked over at Sirius, as though asking for permission.
"Don't look at me, this is your choice." The older man held his hands up, as though saying 'don't get me involved in this'.
"I'd love too!"
"Brilliant. I'll go write to Charlie. I'll see you at dinner. Bye." She waved, before standing and heading out of the hall. The rest of the afternoon was spent with Harry showing Sirius around, and Sirius commenting on how much things had changed since he was here.
When they returned to the Great Hall for dinner, Bagman and Fudge were at the staff table. Bagman looked quite cheerful, but Fudge did not look quite as happy, in fact he looked stern and wasn't speaking to anyone.
As the enchanted ceiling overhead began to fade from blue to a dusky purple, Dumbledore rose to his feet at the staff table, and silence fell. Elara wrapped an arm around Harry. "Ladies and gentlemen, in five minutes' time, I will be asking you to make your way down to the Quidditch field for the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament. Will the champions please follow Mr. Bagman down to the stadium now."
Elara hugged Harry and wished him good luck. He got up. The Gryffindors all along the table were applauding him; and he headed off out of the Great Hall with Cedric, Fleur, and Viktor. After the champions left, Elara made her way to the Slytherin table, and from then, they were escorted down to the Quidditch pitch and they all sat down.
She could see her little brother stood near the entrance of the maze, surrounded by Cedric, Fleur and Krum. McGonagall was speaking to them. Then, Bagman spoke, his voice roaring through the stadium.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin. Let me remind you how the points currently stand! Tied in first place, with eighty-five points each – Mr. Cedric Diggory and Mr. Harry Potter, both of Hogwarts School! In second place, with eighty points – Mr. Viktor Krum, of Durmstrang Institute! And in third place – Miss Fleur Delacour, of Beauxbatons Academy!"
After Bagman blew his whistle, Harry and Cedric went in, then another whistle, in went Krum and on the last one, Fleur went in. And so, began the waiting game. Elara was stood up, sometimes pacing, sometimes being hugged by her boyfriend, who whispered words of comfort.
The first person out was Fleur, who was all bruised and cut up. Then, it was Krum, who looked pale and shaken up. And then, it was just Cedric and Harry left. Almost two hours later, a two bodies appeared on the field. Elara stood up and leaned over the balcony, waiting to hear the announcement, any announcement.
All she could hear were screams of horror. "Cedric Diggory is dead! Voldemort is back!"
"No, no, no." Elara shook her head in disbelief. She went back until the back of her knees hit the bench and she collapsed onto it, her face pale and her hands shaking. "No, please, no."
Theodore crouched down beside her. He held her face between his hands. "Lara, hey, Elara. It's going to be alright."
"He's back, he can't be back." Elara shook her head, burying it in Theodore's shoulder and fisting his shirt in her fingers. She let a few tears slip. But, as she looked over his shoulder, she could see Moody dragging Harry away from the scene, and she pulled away, leaning up to wipe her tears, replacing them with a look of grim determination. "I'm going to find my brother. I love you." She kissed Theodore before running down the stairs and following them.
She followed them until she got to Moody's and listened into the conversation from behind the closed door. She clenched her fists when she heard him confess that he put Harry's name in the goblet, but knew she needed to wait and hear everything else.
When Moody said, "And now, I conquer you." She whipped her wand out and pointed it at the door.
"Expulso!" The door blew back, ripped off its hinges, and she could see Moody with his wand pointed at Harry, who was sat in a chair, his arm dripping blood into the carpeted floor. "Harry, you alright?" She asked as she turned her wand onto the older man.
"I'll be fine."
"And you." She faced Moody. "What the actual fuck is the matter with you?"
His hand inched to his wand that he dropped on the desk, and just as he was about to cast a spell, Elara cried out "Stupefy!" and he flew back, slamming into the wall and falling to the ground unconscious. Just as that happened, Dumbledore, McGonagall and Snape rushed in.
McGonagall went right for Harry, telling him to get up so she could take him to the hospital wing, but then Dumbledore protested, and Elara had enough. "Harry needs to go to the hospital wing, look at the fucking state he's in, Professor." She said mockingly to Dumbledore. "My brother has been through enough, and he needs to-"
She was cut off by Dumbledore waving his wand. She went unconscious and collapsed onto the ground. "El!" Harry dropped to his knees beside her. "What did you do!" He looked at Dumbledore, who smiled apologetically.
"Apologies, Harry. But I must speak with you." He led Harry to his office. McGonagall shook her head and levitated Elara Black, leaving to the hospital wing with her. On her way there however, she was stopped when a dark haired boy pushed through the crowds watching the levitating girl.
"Elara!" He called, rushing over and taking her hand. "What happened?"
"Dumbledore made her sleep."
"Bastard." Theodore said under his breath. "It's alright, Professor. I can take her to the hospital wing." Theodore reached up and wrapped his hands around Elara's wait, before carrying her bridal style, and heading in the direction of the hospital wing.
