Targets 2 & 3 pt.2

Adelaide

---

She handed me a knife laced with a mixture of poisons which I carefully sheathed into a band wrapped around my leg before nodding to each other and leaving. No words were said.

I paused as I wrapped my fingers around the lock.

The sound of a gun went off.

---

My head whipped around to Jaekyung, almost as if I needed confirmation that what I had heard was real and not a figment of my imagination.

From the surprise etched on face, it undoubtedly wasn't my imagination.

With quick precision I turned the lock and swung open the door. Hordes of people rushed to leave the venue as fast as they could to protect their pretty little heads.

My hands went to my ears as a shrill scream filled the air.

I pushed into the steady stream of people, fighting and pushing against the current toward the sound of the gunshot. I needed to know who died.

I needed to know who pulled the trigger.

I shouldered a bulky man and almost tripped over the foot of an old lady but I was gradually making my way to the door.

In the chaos of it all, I slipped off a woman's gloves and slid them onto my hands. They would come in handy if I needed to touch a body. I knew the police would arrive soon, I needed to work faster.

I looked behind me to check if Jaekyung was close behind but paused when I couldn't see her red mask or raven hair. A man with a silver mask identical to the man I had danced with bumped into me and reminded me of my mission.

Jaekyung would catch up later.

A few minutes passed before I finally made it to the entrance of the ballroom and was surprised to find it mostly empty. Most people had already rushed out of the grand room already.

The scene that laid before me was something that surprised me even more than the lack of people in the room.

By now, it was empty except for one dead body sitting in a pool of blood and a man cowering on the floor. My heels rang through the room as I sauntered to the dead body.

With my shoe, I turned his body over so that he was facing upwards. A gunshot wound to the head.

It was the playboy of the Anson twins, the one that didn't have any children.

A cold hand wrapped around my ankle and I looked down to see the other twin crying on my shoe.

Pathetic.

I fisted my hand in his hair and pulled him up, earning a shout of pain from him. I pressed his back into my body and efficiently slid my knife out of it's holster, putting it against his neck.

"Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you right now."

A mixture of tears and snot were streaming down his face in rivulets, his body tensing at the idea that he might be able to stay alive.

Hope is a funny thing.

"I-I have a f-family." He stuttered out and I noticed that his tone had a hopeful lilt to it.

I shot a glance at the clock hung on the wall and noticed I didn't have much time before the police would show up. 10 minutes tops.

Playtime was over.

"I know."

I dragged the knife against his neck from ear to ear, savouring the way that his body thrashed and convulsed against mine.

Until it stopped moving completely.

I dropped him from my grasp letting his lifeless body hit the floor with a thud. I sighed and sheathed my knife into the band around my leg, straightening my dress.

That's when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.

There was someone there, lurking in the shadows and he had become witness to what I had done to the target.

My body stilled as the man started walking towards me, applauding. My eye widened as he strode out of the shadows and into the light, his silver mask glinting in the lights.

It was the man I had danced with.

"You know how to put on a show, it was entertaining." I wasn't scared or frightened that he knew I killed the second Anson twin. I knew he wouldn't tell. He wouldn't tell because he knew that if he did, he would be next on my hit list.

And plus, he hadn't seen my face.

"Are you volunteering to be next in line?" I asked, curious what he would say when his life was threatened.

It was always fun to judge someone based on how they reacted to having their life threatened.

His lips and the only part of his face I could see, grew into a smirk. "What man wouldn't jump at the opportunity to be in your arms, Adelaide?"

I warily eyed him up and down. What kind of answer was that?

I was about to reply but the distant sound of a wailing siren forced me to remember where I was. I had almost forgot about the dead bodies.

I glanced to the exit, to where Malcolm was supposed to be and then back at the man with the silver mask. The magnitude of my situation hit me like a ton of bricks. I had no contact with anybody on my team, I had no idea who shot one of the targets and the police were getting closer by the minute.

One thing was certain, I needed to get out of the building and the security guards had probably blocked off the entrances by now.

I had no idea why this man was here or what his involvement with the first death was but I needed all the help I could get. Plus, when he decided to watch as I murdered the second Anson twin in cold blood, he became a liability. I don't do liabilities.

Why shouldn't I kill you?" I asked, making my way toward him but he didn't step back, he only smiled wider.

"I know your name, you're curious why."

Well he had me there.I grabbed his arm as I rushed out of the room, pulling him through a myriad of hallways that I had memorized with Jamie.

I reached another bathroom and went straight to the second stall, heading for the back of the toilet. I took off the lid off of the tank and reached inside, bringing up a ziploc bag containing a glock. I replaced the lid and turned to the masked man.

"Can you shoot?" A smile that could only be described as malicious crept onto his face as he tentatively took the wet bag from my hand with his thumb and index finger.

"Of course, sunshine."

I ignored the nickname he gave me, only nodding before shouldering past him and popping my head out of the door. The sirens were getting closer.

"Listen, this is what's going to happen, you're going to follow me, no questions asked and we're going to get out of here," I turned to face him, "I don't know who you are or how you're involved in this but I know you're guilty in some way, shape or form."

A smirk played on his lips as he took a step towards me.

Nothing gets past you, does it?" He asked with a sarcastic tone.

I somehow managed to smirk, moving past him and taking out tiles from the bathroom floor. I stuck my hand in the hiding spot where I stashed two black Karambit knives.

"Let's do this, Silver."

"Silver?" The man questioned, amusement present in his tone.

I motioned to his mask. "You didn't tell me your name so I had to improvise, follow me."

I breezed past him and caught a whiff of his scent again. I briefly wondered what was so enticing about it.

"Yes, ma'am."

I rolled my eyes and opened the door, keeping my body close to the wall I kept my footfalls light as I ran down the hallway. I heard his footsteps behind me and frowned at how loud they were. I had assumed he was trained. I ducked into a stairwell and he soon followed after me.

"You're too loud, Silver."

I started up the stairs, heading to the top of the rather large building.

"I'm liking the nickname, it makes me seem badass."I held back my laughter and rolled my eyes.

"I thought you were trained."

"There are many things you don't know." I ignored the fact that he didn't specify the things I didn't know were about him.

I started taking the steps two at a time, only stopping when I was in front of a door.

"Stay here." I commanded, slipping through the door.

I lurked in the shadows, unsure whether there was anyone else present in the building. I had spotted a few security guards earlier, so I had assumed that they were still present. It wasn't long until I came across what I was looking for, Malcolm's gun.

I knew that Malcolm hadn't shot the killshot to the target because if he wanted to, he would've done it when the time was right.

The killer had to be someone else.

I slung it over my back and hurriedly made my way back the way I came, there was no need to leave behind unwanted evidence. I hated cleaning up other people's messes but it was necessary.

Silver had stayed in the same place I had told him to stay. He looked over and curiously eyed the gun strapped to my back before a sly grin grew.

"Were you planning for a war? What's with all the hidden weapons?"

I shot him a glare and brushed past him, getting hit by another wave of his scent.

The realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

Lavender, he smelt like lavender.
