Following the blonde angel to his room, he found himself glancing at his other brother following them. He wasn't sure why, but he would ask Adam when they reach his room. Entering the room, he walked in and waited for the door to close. He already knew what his brother will ask him, but he also knew his father.
'He would be watching,' the brunette told himself as he faced his brother, 'How do I tell him without my father knowing?'
As he thought this, he found his eyes widen slightly. He was thinking about… lying? Deceiving? Moving his emerald eyes to watch the blonde sitting slumped on his bed, Gabriel could not help feeling sympathy for him.
"Tell me what it is I missed brother," the kind angel spoke sitting on the bed beside Adam.
"After you helped heal… Eve," Gabriel heard the hesitation and he watched the guilt pass through blue eyes, "I cared for her as much as I could."
There was a pause as Adam let out a deep breath staring at the floor.
"I cut my wings off," the blonde stated and his brother stared wide eyed at him.
"What? How…"
"How am I still alive?" He asked with a huffed laugh, "Michael also asked me the same thing… I don't know," he turned to the brunette, "I just know that Father had sent someone to find us and then we were in a cave."
'The same cavern I was just at,' Gabriel nodded.
"Then Father spoke to me in my dream," the blond covered his face with a hand, "... said I need to kill her personally so she could be reborn… I didn't tell her and…" he punched his thigh not caring for the bruise, "I hurt her. She will never forgive me… and I…"
The sound of sobs filled the space of the room. Crystal clear tears slipped down blue eyes, but the brunette could see the sharpness within them. A shimmer of anger shined through and the winged angel thought it was toward him, but when the blonde continued, his voice was clear and stern.
"Father thought making that woman, making her look and pretend to be Eve would satisfy me," the blonde gritted out, "How dare he think that would work?! Did he think I would thank him? He does not know Eve like I do! How dare he?! And to assign someone to watch me! I am not a prisoner!"
His voice rose with every sentence, to the point he was standing and shouting. Gabriel just watched his brother vent out and found his own lips frown. What was his father thinking? This wasn't what his father would normally do. Was He… was his father sick? That thought confused him even more. This was not a normal occurrence and had never once been done throughout the centuries.
Maybe the changes had affected his father more than he led on.
Green eyes watched the blonde paced back and forth, burning a hole on the carpet as his lips continued to spew anger. Letting out a sigh, he called out to his brother. He knew how much both Adam and Eve loved one another, it was prevalent in all their years together. Gabriel had watched them among the humans; he had seen the pain in the female demon's eyes; he had heard the cries from both; he had witnessed the tethering of their strings thinning, before strengthening when they have reunited.
Each time, the angel would smile.
Fate and destiny were tricky things and yet… these two always yearned for one another, as if their souls were intertwined with one another for all lifetimes. Even now, one angel and the other demon… is it possible for the two to return to one another without a huge repercussion? What are the risks and are they worth it?
"Adam," his soothing voice spoke up and the blonde stopped his pacing, "Come, Father is to blame for creating our sister as a replacement, but He only thought what was best."
"You are taking his side?" The wingless angel narrowed his eyes with a frown, "Even after imprisoning you, you still protect him when he is wrong."
"I agree with you Adam," Gabriel stood before his brother, "but I also know that this situation had caused changes that were unprecedented," he cupped the blonde's shoulder, "That even Father is confused."
"That is no excuse," Adam crossed his arms, "I want none of his gifts, unless it is to keep me with Eve."
His green eyes searched his blue ones and he felt the bubble of laughter reaching his throat. Eyes crinkling at the edge with his lips spread wide, the laughter escaped his mouth.
"Of course," he patted the young angel's shoulder, "If the road leads to her, you would do it."
"Yes," the blonde did not hesitate and the elder grinned.
"Brother," Adam hesitated, "What does it mean when one cannot reborn without a soul?"
"What do you mean?" Gabriel lifted his brows, but his eyes widened from hearing what his brother just stated.
"Eve told me this when I killed her."
His brain felt like it was fried just hearing what his brother told him. The female demon said a soul was needed to reborn, which was true, but why would she say that? What did it mean? Had she done something regarding her soul? Gabriel thought about it and his mind returned to the wings. Wings connect to the souls of an angel, so if Adam were to cut them off… he should be soulless where he was unable to reborn or live. It was suicide for angels.
Yet here he was looking at him with big pleading blue eyes.
Did Eve somehow keep his brother alive even without a soul? Did she use her dark magic like she had with the fire and her father? Was what she said about not being able to reborn for Adam? That due to him cutting his own soul out, that his brother would not be able to become human again. Or… or was it about herself? Could she had sacrificed her own soul for her lover?
He wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Eve does things to the extreme when needed. If she thought Adam would die, Gabriel was sure that the demon would go down to the Sea of Souls to retrieve her lover's golden soul. Wait… was that what she did?
Then there was the second part of what Adam had concerned about.
He thought he killed her, that he killed his lover.
Gabriel knew this wasn't true. He had seen Eve and her father and saw them both alive and breathing, but the Pool of Enlightenment did not show all that he experienced. Was it… was it not working or was he hallucinating? No, he wasn't making it up. Both Lucifer and his kin was alive. They would be in their palace dealing with the mess of Hell. He was certain of it, but he knew he wouldn't be able to tell his brother. But maybe…
"Eve is strong," he stated and blue eyes stared at him, "Whatever happens, you must be strong too."
'It wasn't like I said she is alive, but…' Gabriel found himself trying to convince himself.
The blues seemed to shimmer and darken before it brightened, and the elder angel could not help mentally patting the blonde. Adam was smarter than he looked.
"Thank you, brother," the young angel let out a smile, "That is all I needed to hear."
