Flaw (58)

The galaxian woman, who's birth name was Nebula, so named for the large patch of skin on her face that resembled the ones found in the night sky, was hurriedly gathering what few items she possessed and shoving them into a small leather bag.

After the attempted "rescue" of the wretched girl, Callon had truly come undone. His scheme had not gone according to plan and what's more it meant that achieving what he wanted would be more difficult. If there was one thing Callon, Councilor of Flumen did not like, it was for things to be difficult.

They returned, unsuccessful, and Callon had gone into a rage. Sweeping the top of his desk clean, throwing things against the wall, shouting about the unfairness of it all. He had told Nebula that if not for her powers as a galaxian, he'd of thrown her in the gutters himself just to have the satisfaction of seeing her amongst the garbage and the vagabonds of the streets.

She had staid for awhile, sure that the best way to find the Lord of Midnight would be to remain by Callons side, but she could take the abuse no longer. She would find the lord herself and he would surely welcome her with open arms. And ideally an open bed.

Once she had gathered everything she wrapped herself in a cloak. With everything she was carrying she would only be able to transport small distances, there would be times she would have to walk. And she didn't want to be chased like the human girl.

She made her way, quickly and quietly, to a heavily curtained alcove. She transported herself to the other side of it, onto the balcony.

She tightened her pack around herself and carefully made her way to the ground.

Before long she was outside of the city walls, on her way to the Midnight Forest.

Callon tossed and turned in his large quarters. The woman haunted his every moment.

He threw the silk covers aside in disgust. Not all the luxuries in the world would free his mind and allow him rest.

Every moment his mind was not occupied, images of that woman astride the gelding, so comfortable riding bare back that you'd think she was in her birthday suit lounging in the sun. Her endless lengths of hair poorly hidden under the hood of her rich green cloak.

Her beauty was captivating. And what was even more valuable was the fact that this applied to everyone. He had watched as individuals stopped to stare as she went by them.

Her beauty combined with her impressive skill for perception made her a valuable tool in his future endeavors.

He had spouted nonsense about Folk and humans living peacefully once more. And he'd happily spout it if it's what the little fox wanted to hear.

But eventually she would have to face the truth.

Folk were superior to humans and the world should be ran thusly.

Callon left the bed and went to his washroom to stand in front of the basin, a large gold plate hanging above it.

Of course, being a Folk himself, and such an accomplished and handsome one at that, Caeli was undeserving. A human girl with no magic? But the fact remained that she was perceptive and her looks resembled that of the Old Fae from when humans and Folk lived and loved together. Her glowing and golden skin, her deep brown eyes.

Callon had blinked rapidly attempting to clear his vision the first time he laid eyes on her. Besides the fact that her hair was not white, everything else about her made her appear a spitting image of the ones long lost to time.

Before the world had split and put water between the pieces, all land had been one. The Old Fae were the creatures that came into existence after humans were created, the last of the creatures to be placed on the planet by the goddesses. Or so it was rumored.

All living creatures lived in harmony for quite some time. Many relationships developed between the magical beings and the humans resulting in beautiful humanoid children.

Of the notable had been the Ausians. Being at the center of the land mass, and now the center of the world, this was where the Five had been placed upon arrival. Just after this, the goddesses made children that resembled the Five, dragons, the First Children. Eventually the Last Day came in which the humans were created.

Some humans remained in what is now Ausia and lived among the dragons. It wasn't long before one after another fell in love, despite the difference in their species.

It was said a human witch created a way for dragons to take the form of a human, bringing happiness to many of the couples.

These couples then had children. The Old Fae. Some of the most powerful species to ever exist. Their bodies were frail and resembled a human but their strength with magic matched that of the dragons.

The magic within them making their human like bodies glow and for their hair to turn white. They were said to be the most beautiful creatures in existence. The combining of the most powerful creature, the dragon, and the weakest, humans, resulting in a perfect balance. The best of both worlds in one species.

Of course this was lifetimes ago. Old Fae had long been extinct. The land experienced a breaking into five pieces, Ausia being the center portion that did not move.

The Separation caused devastation unrivaled to anything the world had seen before, many of the Old Fae had died, and those that survived slowly dwindled in number, the magic to transform dragons into human form lost with the human witch who unexpectedly died int he Separation, having not taught her prodigy the magic before her untimely demise.

Callon knew that there was no possible way that Caeli was Old Fae but her image had been so compelling that logic left him at first.

She was the most beastly and beautiful thing he had ever laid eyes upon.

Callon walked to the cherry wood tub, pulling a string to make steaming water fall from a spout and fill the hollow belly.

The swirling of the water in the red and brown bath reminding him of the girls large swimming eyes. Dark brown depths framed with thick dark lashes.

Soon she would be his.

He would take her as his wife, then his negotiator.

There wasn't a soul that could tell her no, and her perception could prove useful when discerning the secrets of politicians.

Callon lowered himself into the warm water of the tub, he felt the tension in his body soften.

He was impatient, his one and only flaw, but he would wait. And he would have what he wanted.
