Dear Imena,
After a moment, Milo pulled away, and we sat there looking at each other. After a few minutes, he stood up.
"Um, well, I should get going. Uh, I'll see you later. Bye." he said.
"Milo, wait." I said and stood up, "I...think you're pretty great too..."
Milo turned around, "You really mean that?"
I nodded. Milo walked back to me with a wide smile across his face.
"But hold on," I said, "I'm, uh, not so sure I want to be in a relationship just yet. I don't think I'm ready right now."
A wave of sadness and hurt passed over me, I figured that's how Milo was feeling.
"Look, I'm sorry. I really do like you, but I'm just processing through some difficult things right now, and I need more time to process before I start dating again. I do hope we can stay close though, I like taking to you." I said.
Milo nodded, "Of course, I understand. If you change your mind, don't be shy to let me know, ok?"
I smiled at him and nodded.
Milo smiled back. Again, we were quiet for a moment. Then Milo looked at me confused,
"I didn't know you've dated anyone before."
"Oh. Yeah, I have. He doesn't go to our school." I said.
"How did you meet him then?"
"Um...church."
"Oh, what church do you go to?"
"Ok, it doesn't matter, he doesn't live around here anymore. He moved...countries."
Milo smiled at me again, "Alright. Well, I should really get going, my parents are expecting me to be home soon. I'll text you later."
"Alright, talk to you later then." I said, and couldn't help smiling back at him, his smile was contagious.
He turned and walked away, and I watched him walk away, until he turned a corner and was out of sight.
I thought about Milo's smile after I failed at explaining my the ex no one remembers I have, it was like he knew I made up all of that but didn't call me out for whatever reason.
But how could he have known? Did we miss him when we wiped memories? Was he one of Lennon's friends or family members that we missed? Or worse, was he working for Andrew? Why was he asking so many questions anyway?
But there was one other possibility, maybe he was just smiling, there was no scary or ill intent behind the smile, and maybe he was asking questions to get to know more about me. I decided to believe that. He was cute and he kissed me, the last thing I wanted was for him to turn out evil.
I figured my friends in the Vail wouldn't be too happy if they knew I already had my eye on someone new, and I really didn't want the lecture after just crushing a sweet boy's heart, so I decided I wouldn't tell them anything unless I started dating Milo. That way, if things didn't work out the way I wanted them to, my friends wouldn't ask about him.
My plan definitely worked, maybe a little too well, but it did work and that's what's important.
