The next day Leo, Jordan, and Taylor were already at the park and sitting at the picnic table waiting for Kaline.
"Where is she?"
"She's still having trouble with her mom."
"Is she gonna make it?"
"She should."
"Hey guys!"
They looked up and saw Kaline jogging up to them as soon as she sat down they started talking.
"Okay so let's think about what's going on."
"Did anybody find out anything new?"
"We do still have some normal stuff, I think meat is the only food that has blood in it."
"And orange juice and water still exists."
"That's good, anything else?"
Jordan and Taylor shook their heads before Kaline said, "... There's a vampire king…"
"What?"
"My parents told me that we have a ruler, the vampire king. I think they said his name was King Alric."
"What about King Alric?"
They turned around and saw one of officers standing behind them.
"Oh, um... we were just wondering if the king had anything to do with our marking."
"Oh, well he sends an officer to give you your marking, other than that he doesn't really take part in it."
"Oh okay."
"Where is the king's castle? Because I haven't seen it around anywhere."
He laughed and they exchanged confused looks, "You silly kids you're so forgetful."
"What do you mean?"
"... The castle is hidden… did you not know that?"
"... No, we don't really pay attention in school."
"Why is it hidden?" Taylor asked.
"To protect the king of course."
"Protect him from what?" Kaline asked.
"Gosh, you kids really don't pay attention in class. Well then maybe you should rest up, that way you can find out at school."
"We'll be fine, don't worry."
"You kids are up very late. It's not good for you."
"We'll go home eventually but right now we need to talk about this."
"I'm sure whatever is so important you can talk about later."
"We're good sir."
"If you say so, have a good day kids."
"You too officer."
When he walked away they started to whisper to make sure no one would hear much.
"Okay, what are we gonna do about this marking?"
"We've gotta figure out something, if it doesn't work we could get in trouble."
"There's got to be a way to fake it."
"Leo, you got any ideas?"
"No, I don't think there's a way to fake it."
"Then what are we gonna do?"
"Calm down Taylor, breath."
Kaline held Taylor's hand again and she started to take nice and slow breaths. "Maybe we just have to deal with it. It's not like we'll get arrested or something."
"But if it doesn't work people will know we're different."
"And I don't think we really know what the laws are."
"Yeah it seems like killing someone isn't even a big deal anymore."
"If it was Leo and I would've been arrested by now."
"Hush! If it is illegal you don't want to remind them."
"We have to think of something--"
"Kaline there you are!"
Kaline turned and saw her mom stomping towards her, "Mom! What are you doing here?"
"I should've known you were gonna sneak out. Come on, we're going home."
"Mom, I need to talk with my fr--"
"I don't wanna hear it! Whatever you have to talk to your friends about you'll talk about it tonight. Now come on!"
Her mom grabbed her arm and pulled her over to the car. When they drove off Leo said, "We'll see each other tonight."
They all separated and started to head for their homes.
Later that night Kaline was starting to get ready for school when she heard some knocking at the door. She walked out to see who was at the door and when her mom opened it, at first she saw some adults she didn't know until I saw some familiar faces.
"Guys?"
"Kaline!"
"What are you doing here?"
"Kaline, can you take your friends to your room?"
"Okay dad."
"Make sure to close the door."
When they went to her room as soon as they closed the door they put their ears to it to listen in.
"Mr. Draven, what is it that you wanted to talk about?"
"... You might take this very hard."
"It can't be that serious."
"... I believe your children are the next Clones."
There was complete silence until Mrs. Hadden finally said, "No, no my daughter is not a Clone."
"Ma'am listen--"
"No, you listen to me! My daughter is not a clone, she is not evil, and she would never want to hurt anyone."
"I just think--"
"What caused you to think that?"
"... It's the only thing that makes sense. Your children stay up all day, they seem to not know anything about the world and… I'm sorry to tell you this but, they killed two officers the other day."
"What?"
"They wouldn't."
"Jordan and Leo shot two different officers, not to mention Kaline knocked another one out when he was restraining her."
"He had me in a chokehold!"
"Kaline, hush."
"Kids? Was that you?"
They started dashing for the window but Draven appeared in front of them and they froze in place.
"Kids is it true?"
"Did you kill two officers?"
"It was in self-defense."
"We never would've done it if it wasn't for a good reason."
"There's never a good reason to kill someone."
"They would've killed us!" Taylor exclaimed.
"They wouldn't have hurt you, kids."
"Don't worry, I'm sure when they get marked everything will go back to normal."
"And what if the marking doesn't work?"
"... I wouldn't think too much about that."
"Thank you, Mr. Draven."
"Have a good day."
