I stare unblinkingly at him, repulsed at his cringe-worthy line. I open my mouth to mutter an 'eww' but thinking against it at the last moment, I leave the room.

...

"So what did you have to talk about?" she asks once we enter her room. "Why have you been crying?" She looks at me softly, removing her earrings and keeping them in her purse in the meantime.

I open my mouth to tell her everything that has happened till now, but she raises a finger, and I immediately shut up.

"Let me bring ice cream. They're the best comfort food!" She beams at me, and I smile back at her as she leaves the room, returning in a few minutes with a tub of ice cream and two spoons.

She hands one to me, and I dig in, moaning about how good it is and how much I've missed it.

"When was the last time you had ice cream?" She asks, laughing along me.
