Chapter 03

Allison Clark's POV

We ended up staying at the jewellery store for about five minutes, because Isabella kept getting distracted and asking, 'Are you sure you want to give a necklace to me?' or something else like that.

We were walking to the food court right now, because it was lunchtime and I thought that some food would quiet her down.

Isabella was fidgeting with her wallet, and she looked tense. She kept scooping up coins with her hand and dropping them back one by one, kind of like when somebody is sprinkling those sprinkles on cakes. She turned to me and, for the fiftieth time, asked,

"Are you absolutely sure that the necklace is for me? Like are you sure you're seeing me and not someone else? Maybe you should give one to your crush? Ryan, was it? I'm sure he'll notice you if you give this to him."

I rolled my eyes. I used to had a crush on Ryan, like, two years ago, and suffered endless teasing day after day from Isabella over here, saying things like 'Allison and Ryan sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G' and whatnot.

"Hmmm, I see Isabella Brookes beside me right now, pretty sure you are not Jessica, because I haven't heard a piece of gossip from you in the past twenty minutes I have been with you." I said teasingly. Jessica was the Queen Bee at our school, always gossips, and hates our guts for some reason.

"As to giving the necklace to Ryan," I continued, "Why would I give a necklace to someone I haven't really talked to for a long time when I can give it to my best friend who I trust more than anybody?"

Isabella looked like she wanted to cry, but instead hugged me really, really tightly.

"Oof." I said, and it came out like a squeak.

She continued hugging me, tighter and tighter, until I was sure she's going to break something if I don't push her away.

"Ok, now that I have convinced you I am really giving you the necklace, are you hungry?" I asked.

"Nope, not even a a little." She answered.

"Really?"

"Mhm."

"Yeah me too actually." And we both laughed.

~~~
"So would you like something to drink?" I asked my friend when we got to my house, we biked here, and since it was such a sunny day outside, I was already sweating. My dad went out, so we could talk about the necklace in peace.
"No thanks, I brought my water bottle." Isabella replied.
"Okie." I said as I poured myself a glass of water with lots of ice cubes in it. I love chewing ice for some reason, and its so satisfying when I hear the crunch.
We climbed the stairs and went in my room, as soon as Isabella stepped inside, she gasped.
"WHOA! You have those glow-in-the-dark-stars on your ceiling!" She exclaimed.
I blushed in embarrassment, and said nothing, those stars have been there since fifth grade, I wanted to take those off, but could never bring myself to do it. Sometimes a part of me thought I was too old for those things, and I should remove them immediately, but another part of me hesitates and makes me feel like I am throwing away a part of my past if I do.
As Isabella continues examining my room, it suddenly struck me that she's never been to my house before, we would always go to her place for hangouts, and I blushed even redder. All these years we've been friends, and I never thought to bring her here! I am such a horrible person!
She turned to me and was about to say something to me but stopped when she noticed my face.
"Allison! Why is your face so red? Are you sick?" She said as she reached forward and put a hand on my forehead. "Oh my gosh!" You face is heating up!" Isabella took the water from my hands and looked like she was about to dump it on me to cool me down when I stopped her.
"No fever! Relax! I feel fine, just embarrassed because I realized you've never been to my house before, I'm a horrible friend!" I murmured the last part.
"I don't care if I haven't been to your house before! You're my best friend! You understand me." Isabella said confidently.
"Aww thanks..." I said, feeling better.
"Can we try on the necklaces now?" Isabella asked, sounding excited and for once, she looked like she didn't doubt that I was giving one to her.
I nodded, she helped me put my necklace around my neck and secure the clasp before I did the same to her. We looked at our selves in the mirror and for a second, just kept staring at our reflections. The we burst out laughing.
The necklace was, as I thought before, an accessory for formal attire, not while we were in giant t-shirts and leggings. Looking at the mirror, we looked rather ridiculous, and hilarious too, if someone like a fashion designer or a model were to see us, they would probably freak out.
"Hey, Allison? is it just me or is the necklace glowing?" Came Isabella's voice.
"Hmm? Oh yeah." I said, still lost in my thoughts and thinking she was referring to the extra glittery jewel on the necklace.
"Um, is this normal? Do these necklaces glow a lot because I'm getting kind of worried over here, and...is it getting brighter?" She started talking faster and faster while continuously poking me, hard. I focused on the necklace in the mirror, and sure enough, it was glowing really bright.
"Take it off! Quick!" I shouted. This was not normal.
I found the clasp with my fingers and tried it move the little lever thing but I couldn't, it was stuck, like someone had hot glued it into place or something. I pulled the necklace around so that it was in front of me, but still, no luck. I glanced over at Isabella and it looked like she was about as successful as I was in removing the necklace.
By now the glow of the necklace was really bright, bright enough that I shouldn't even call it a glow, it was blinding. I ran over to my desk and grabbed a pair of scissors, I was so desperate I even tried cutting the chain of the necklace, but it wouldn't break. The light from the necklace suddenly became really bright, and I closed my eyes so I can continue pulling and cutting the necklace, but as soon as I did that, I felt dizzy and light-headed.
As I collapsed, everything went dark.
