Point of View Pt. 1

Sitting in the sun on a blanket in the backyard, Kai was checking emails on his laptop, taking Saya's advice about getting some fresh air since he had just been going to work and staying cooped up in his room whenever he got home. A week had gone by and despite the many times that Kai had reached out, there was still no response from his boyfriend and Jinn had taken off of work, so Kai had not been able to see him there either.

Glancing at his phone for a second, Kai rolled his eyes, quickly picking it up and dialing Jinn, but as expected, it only rang before going to voicemail. Tossing his phone, Kai directed his attention back to his laptop screen and let out a sigh. Sure, Jinn had a right to be angry and he normally needed a few days to cool down after they had, had a fight, but this was unlike him and poor Kai had no idea what it meant. As he scrolled through his many emails, tears unexpectedly streamed down his face, "Dammit, you really fucked up this time Kai.", he said softly, roughly wiping the tears from his eyes. "Ugh, pull your shit together! You promised you wouldn't cry over this anymore!", Kai encouraged himself, as he continued to scroll, but he suddenly stopped, removing his finger from the scroll button. Quickly opening the email, Kai's face lit up as he began to read through it. He had gotten an email from Tomo Kan, his old boss, the man who had been like a big brother to him during one of the toughest years of his life.

Leaning back on the recliner chair in the hospital room, Jinn stared down at his phone in his hands, scrolling through the many texts and calls he had gotten from Kai. Letting out a sigh, Jinn placed his phone back into his pocket.

"Jinn, please go home, you've been here every day for the past week, and I am quite sick of listening to you sigh!", said Mrs. Wilkins.

Allowing a smirk onto his face, Jinn chuckled, turning his attention toward his Mother who was lying in the hospital bed.

"I will leave when Dad, Jenna or Art gets here.", he responded.

"Okay, fine, but I don't want to see you until next week!", Mrs. Wilkins scolded.

"Mom!", Jinn whined, feeling completely shunned.

"Do not Mom me! I asked Jenna what happened since you refuse to tell me why you haven't brought Kai along with you.", said Mrs. Wilkins and Jinn rolled his eyes.

"Does everyone in this family have loose lips?", said Jinn rolling his eyes once more.

"Jinn, you cannot blame Kai for doing what I asked him to do, if there's anyone you want to be angry at, then be angry at me. The only one who has expressed to me how she felt was Jenna, but you and Art, you hold things in or take it out on other people!", said Mrs. Wilkins.

"You've said so yourself, that I've been here with you every day, why would I be upset with you?", said Jinn raising a brow.

"Because I waited so long to tell you all. Honestly son, I was confident that things would be fine. I was confident that I would be strong enough to get through this with just your Father and that I wasn't going to need chemo, but when the doctor told me that I had progressed to stage four, I knew that I had to tell you three.", said Mrs. Wilkins and Jinn lowered his head.

"That's why I planned the barbeque, I wanted us to have one last hurrah, I wanted us to enjoy ourselves before things go...", she continued.

"Please don't say things like that Mom.", Jinn interrupted, his eyes watering as he spoke.

"Jinn, I haven't given up, but I have accepted whatever outcome happens and I need you to do the same. Please do not push away the person that cares for you the most, you'll need him to help you through this."

Quickly wiping his eyes, Jinn raised his head, "So you finally accept him? Why now? Is that why you told him that you were sick?", Jinn asked.

"I told Kai because it felt good to tell someone who has no emotional attachment to me. The sympathetic expression that people always give me after hearing the news, makes me sick to my stomach. I also told him because I needed him to understand what he is choosing, the seriousness of being your forever mate, because when I am gone, all of the weight I carried for you as your Mother will fall onto him."

"But you were so adamant about me having a wife, and kids, what abou…", Jinn began to say, but his Mother cut him off.

"Kai told me he came back to the U.S. because he loves you and that is enough for me. The funny thing is that after talking to him, I realized that because he loves you so much, he is emotionally attached to me after all.", said Mrs. Wilkins, a smile making its way onto her face as she chuckled.

"…", Lowering his head, Jinn's eyes began to water quite heavily, but a smile soon followed. Granted he hated the way it all happened, hearing that his Mother accepted the person he loved most in this world, filled his heart to the brim.

"I am here!", said Jenna loudly as she walked into the room and Jinn quickly wiped his teary eyes. "Mom, I got us lunch, since the food here sucks so bad. Sorry Jinn, I didn't bring anything for you!", Jenna teased, sticking her tongue out at her brother while she sat at her Mother's bedside, placing the large paper bag of food on the table.

"Jenna, are you sure you didn't bring enough for the whole family? How are you and Mom going to eat all of that by yourselves?", Jinn chuckled.

"Shut your big Mouth Jinn, I am eating for two now!", Jenna passionately defended herself.

"You can't blame gluttony on my nephew.", Jinn teased.

"You!", said Jenna, her piercing blue eyes glaring across the room at her twin brother.

"You two behave now!", Mrs. Wilkins scolded as she couldn't help, but to laugh. "Jinn, why don't you get going huh? I'm more than positive a brown eyed beauty is probably at home anxiously awaiting your presence.", said Mrs. Wilkins, simultaneously winking as she smiled. With a smirk Jinn stood, walking over toward his Mother and leaning down to kiss her on the cheek.

"I'll be back as soon as I get things sorted out, okay?", said Jinn as he made his way toward the door.

"Don't bother to walk through that door if you're alone next time!", Mrs. Wilkins hinted the obvious.

"Don't bother to come back at all!", Jenna added, and Jinn couldn't help, but to laugh as he exited the room. Individually, those two were a handful, but when they were together, no words could be used to describe the pair.

Making his way back to town, Jinn had arrived at Saya's house and was just sitting in his parked car. "Ah fuck, what do I even say?", he said aloud as he leaned his head back against the head rest, closing his eyes for a moment. He had wanted to call Kai to let him know that he would be stopping by, but he was honestly scared, because he knew that Kai was probably pretty hurt after all this time. "Shit, let me just get this over with.", Jinn sighed as he finally got out of the car and made his way up toward the stairs. Balling his fists at his sides, Jinn raised his hand, holding it to the door an entire minute before he knocked.

For a moment, there was silence and then the door opened, Saya being behind it. "Oh, look who it is.", said Saya, her brows furrowed as she placed a hand on her hip.

"I know, I know. I'm an asshole.", Jinn responded.

"Well as long as you know that you're an asshole.", said Saya.

"Can I come in?", Jinn asked.

"Kai's not here.", said Saya.

"Do you know where he's gone to?", Jinn asked.

"The man he worked with in Japan reached out to him, so Kai went to meet with him.", said Saya.

"Kai…Kai went to meet with…with To…Tomo Kan?", Jinn stuttered, his legs nearly giving out he was so shocked.

"Mn, said something about taking on his new project and being done with it all.", Saya answered, crossing her little arms, as her annoyance with Jinn was still very present.

"Did…did he say where he was meeting Tomo Kan?", Jinn asked anxiously, his complexion turning a shade paler than usual.

"I don't know Jinn, I didn't ask him all that, go find out yourself!", Saya snapped, backing up and slamming the door in Jinn's face.

With his mind racing a million miles per second, Jinn darted down the stairs, pulling his phone out of his back pocket. Quickly getting back into his car, Jinn dialed Kai's number, "Come on, come on, pick up!", Jinn said anxiously as he listened to the phone ring over and over.

"Hello?"

"Kai, whe…", Jinn began to say.

"I'm not able to answer my phone right now, but….", Kai's voice message continued.

"Fuck!", Jinn cursed loudly as he put his car into drive and pulled off, he had forgot about the joke that Kai had come up with to make people think he was actually answering the phone, when it was only his voice message.

"Dammit Kai, please don't do this!", Jinn said aloud as he drove, his eyes watering as he continued to call Kai over and over. Just hearing the name Tomo Kan made Jinn anxious, there was no way in hell he was going to let that man take Kai away from him a second time!
