Slicing Snake Heads

"You're mistaken. There's no greater magic here."

He gives me a stare like I'm taking him for a fool. One step forward, and he's so close to me that his snakes touch my face. I have never developed a fear for snakes, but their capability to end my life in just seconds scare me.

I'm frozen solid when I feel one slipping past my shoulders. They would hiss at me with hatred in their eyes, much like the man. The creature would keep all malevolence behind a crooked smile.

Gripping the concrete railing, I open my mouth to try and get him away from me when his eyes focused on my neck. Someone calling my name from a distance halted all course of action and surprised the creature.

"Rose, get away from him!"

Rhys shouted to me before an icicle comes flying past my shoulder and stabbing the creature in front of me. It hollers in agony together with his serpents as he backs away from me.
