The Undoing of My Past, Part 1

Recap

"Its my fault." He sits down on his bed and holds his face in his hands. "Its my fault that you've been in the hospital for the last couple of days." I don't say anything because in some ways he is right, but if he hadn't of kicked me out I wouldn't of met that guy.

****************************************

"Harper..." His head slowly rises until his eyes meet mine. A shimmer of hope that is surrounded by guilt and regret is the only thing that reflects. He looked a mess, it was as if he really did feel sorry for everything... It almost made me feel guilty for what I was about to do.

"Harper. I need my duffel bag." I watch his eyes. The small shimmer that was fluttering around in them earlier? That had disappeared. His postured looked even more slumped than it had already been. His face had a shadow cast over it. This is not the confident guy I had first met when I arrived in this town. This guy was a whole new different.

He's broken.

He's broken, and I don't know if it was me or if there was any way of helping him.

"Please..." He didn't say it halfheartedly, he didn't say it mockingly, instead he said it with his head bent forward, I could see a single tear drip from his eye and slowly make its way down his perfectly tanned cheek bones. By the time it had got to his nose it had built up enough fuel for gravity to rip it from him. He sounded as if he already knew what I would do, he sounded as if he just wanted to shoot a shot as see if it would hit the back of the goal...So I let him. I sat down on his bed and wrapped him in my arms, I felt him fold in and let out any emotions that he had bottled up.

After a while I started to cramp up. First it was my arms, then it was my joints and eventually it was my neck. I looked down to ask him if he could kindly get up, only to find that he was sound asleep, still slumped against me.

"Harper! Get up! I need you to drive me to the airport- Oh, sweety your still here?" I was shocked. Never would I have thought that a lady as- never mind, It was a suspicion.

"Uh yeah, we sort of got distracted?" She looked at me confused.

"I think... I think I might just catch a taxi. It was nice meeting you Raven" As soon as she had said my real name I had begun to choke on air.

Clearing my throat I ask her innocently, "Um sorry? Who is Raven?" She just rolled her eyes and hastily walked out of the room. It was at that moment that I had decided to wake up sleeping beauty.

"Harper...Harper? Harper wake up" I shake him a few times, only to be knocked on my back with his hands around my throat. I stayed still, watching as recognition fluttered in his irises.

"Luna?" As soon as my name left his mouth he had shot himself off of the bed and to the other side of the room.

"Harper...We need to talk." He gives me a weird look, his face scrunched up as if he had just eaten something sour.

"I don't need to talk, you might but i'm fine! Just because I had one moment of weak-" I cut him off with a slap across the face.

"Don't! Don't say that was a moment of weakness! Just because you cried doesn't mean you're weak! And would stop thinking everything is all about you all of the time? Now, your going to grab a coat and come with me. I don't want to hear any questions until I say that you may ask questions Do you understand me?" His face was priceless, he seemed pretty surprised in my sudden change in attitude.

"Uh...yeah...I guess." He grabs the closest coat and slips it on.

"Good" I go up to him and slowly grab my duffel from the bed behind him.

"Uh, can I grab Brooke? I kinda can't leave her here alone...ya know?" I roll my eyes, did he seriously think I was going to leave that poor kid here alone?

"Of course, i'm not heartless!" I push past him and trudge down the stairs only to find Brooke asleep on the couch, her face still tear stained but this time she has a red mark the shape of a hand on her right side cheek.

"That witch! How dare she lay a hand on this girl!" Brooke suddenly jumps at the volume of my voice causing her to roll off the couch and onto the rough carpeted floor.

"Oww" Rushing to her side I give her a look over to make sure she wasn't hurt.

"Sorry princess, are you alright? Didn't skin yourself did you?" She looks up at me with wide eyes and a big smile.

"Lunaaaaaaaa! You'rwe still herwe!" I let out a little giggle at her response.

"Yeah! Didn't think i'd leave without a goodbye did you? Anyway, we're heading over to my house you wanna come?"

"Yesh!" she jumps up and fist pumps the air making me smile.

I pick her up and put her on my hip, still carrying my bag, and walk out with Harper on my tail. When we get to my front door I put Brooke down and pull out my keys and unlock my door, still listening to Brookes hopeless chatter.

"So what are we doing here again?" The deep voice makes me jump, I completely forgot Harper was here which is understandable since he's been quiet the whole trip to my place.

I let out an exhausted sigh, "Princess? Go down the hallway and go into the first room on the left. I've got some stuff for you to play with there." Brooke giggles and runs down the hallway to find the room.

I turn to Harper and give him a tired smile, "Would you like to come sit down? It's sort of a long story."

Harper bites his bottom lip, almost nervously, and nods his head as he slowly makes his way to the lounge room and awkwardly stands next the single seater couch. I clear my throat and sit on the arm of the triple seater couch, silently motioning him to sit on the seat he was standing next to. Accepting my offer, he perches himself on the edge of the chair.

"Now...It starts off with when my mum died giving birth to my soon-to-be brothers and sister..."

***********Flashback***********

"Hey babygirl, are you ready to meet your brothers and sister?" I look up to my father with an excited expression.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" He chuckles at my figure jumping up and down in excitement. I suddenly stop when a thought comes to mind. "What about mummy? Can we go see mummy first?" His expression turns grim at the sound of my plea. "We-We can go see Bailey, Duncan and Isadora first if you want..." He shakes his head, clearing his mind, and smiles.

"Yes, I think it would be better to go see your siblings first. I think mummy would like that." I give him a small, disappointed smile and crawl into my booster seat softly singing The Little Einsteins theme song.

Daddy smiles at me and gets in the drivers seat. Just as he was about to start the car, he gets a call. "Hello?...Yes this is he...SHE"S WHAT?! Yes. Yes sir I understand... I'll be there soon." He slams his hands on the steering wheel angrily as I watch, anticipating his next move.

As his face grows red, I sink further into my car seat. If I move back enough, maybe he won't be able to reach me? "Daddy? Are you okay?" He slowly turns around to see my body curled into my booster seat. Is he mad? Will he give me an owchy again? Please, please don't give me an owchy again...

Instead, he smiles at me. This smile was a small tortured one. It scares me...

"Of course I'm fine baby girl, but I think mummy wants us to go see her first. Is that okay hun?" His voice sounded strained, like he was exhausted, like he was about to break down and cry.

"Yeah! I gotta tell her about the twiplets!" A tear rolls from his left eye.

"It's okay baby, you won't need to tell her... She won't see them ever again."
