Chapter 13: A Case of Second Meeting

After that little blunder of little Khelly, they headed to the gym for the entrance ceremony. Many students were already gathered over there and the whole thing just bores Leila. The principal made a long speech (though she did enjoy listening) that some students didn't pay much attention to.

Leila appreciates the effort, but this type of thing should be made short. The audiences are young and it's hard for children to actually focus their attention for a very long time. The act itself is a little useless to these students as most of them will let the words enter their right ear then pass through the left ear. It's better to make them run and build their basic foundation than forcing them to sit and listen to grandeur and promises that they still haven't comprehend.

It reminds her of inconsiderate Kings back in Reilas who didn't understand the pain of their soldiers. They made promises and grand plans, but only those who weren't blinded with the flowery words knew how much thorns they were wrapped in. In a similar way, the principal's speech might be good for those who understood them, but only a few knew what entails to achieve them.

Life is not that quite easy as it was painted by other people. Only when they see and experience the viciousness that comes with living. And these future pillars, the students who are pretty much ignorant in the things the principal wants to instill in them.

Khelly had chosen to stick around Leila like they had been back then when they were transferred to the special class. At the ceremony, the girl slept with her eyes open. Leila gives her a silent judgement of what type of days the girl went into to master the skill. If the black haired girl didn't monitor her seatmate's unusual silence she wouldn't know the others were asleep.

Time might have been a little lax for little Khelly. She had been too careless than when she was younger. She has always been impulsive and does things in accordance to the crowd and feels, but forgetting to see where her classroom is and another class altogether. If the talking incident is added, then she really needs to watch herself more to avoid any mishaps.

Now that Leila is around her, the black haired girl will once again look after her. Though she'll be making sure that the other will be able to be competent enough even if the other will end up with a disastrous airhead. At least the blond will not be harmed at most.

Leila did her magic and led themselves to the class of 1B. There were few students in there and another familiar face was encountered again. The other students might be lost around the campus like they should be if there is no Mana to guide them, there were only the seven of them currently in the room.

Harvey definitely grew out that unpleasant frown of his, but that sneer on his face is still ever present. His green eyes are lost in thought, staring at the view outside the window. He seems to be mocking at what he thought he had.

Well the guy didn't notice them, fully occupied with whatever came to his mind. Leila didn't give him her attention as much. Khelly wasn't able to recognize the other, which is good for now.

"....so how did you even know it was me? I mean I don't remember much of my younger years. I always know that I have a good memory, but how can you accurately name me and...." Khelly asked Leila as they entered the room. In fact all the way to the room, she was talking about her adventures during their time apart.

"Hair pin." Leila answered simply. She nudged the blond to an empty seat a little far from the brooding boy to indicate they should sit now. The black haired girl could say that the other will be a monster in spellcasting considering how she can keep up with her topics while being preoccupied with other things.

"Ah that explains it! But you gave a lot of gifts back then if I remembered it well. How did you know me from the pin alone?" Curiosity consumes Khelly at the moment that she's not minding if her questions are just paraphrased and repeating. She wants answers.

The boy was disturbed by the noise Khelly is doing. He annoyingly threw a glance of contempt to the girls. It was as if he was blaming them for disturbing his mind.

It gave Leila a sense of Deja vu. It was almost alike to their first meeting, only this time the boy didn't have his entourage. And the boy obviously grew some brains before throwing insults, no longer as impulsive as before.

Khelly is braver now, she did mention that she had become a class leader in her old school. She led her class and confronted people much older and more authoritative as her to give favourable conditions to everyone. So that gaze provoked her by a small margin.

Lowering her voice, Khelly continued to talk. She understood that she's being too loud so she just adjusted her volume, hoping to make the other less disturbed.

Obviously the boy was not reconciled with the other's compromise. He stood up and confronted them, making the boy a little confused in his actions. It was as if he knew the girls and would welcome him more than the other students in this class. And like he had done something like this a long time ago with these same pairs of girls.

"Will you shut up?" Harvey said as he stood in front of their chairs. With a tone that is neither too loud nor too small, he vocalized his complaints. "You're being too loud."

"Well sorry about that. But I'm not zipping my mouth. I still have a lot of things to talk to my friend here." Khelly stated plainly on the face of the other. "If you please, can you just leave us alone? I'll keep my voice small enough to not disturb you or anyone."

The two had a pleasant smile on their faces, but there is definitely gunpowder in the air. Years may pass by, but the two are always the most incompatible friends. One was controlling and the other was free spirited, meeting each other is destined to be chaos. Especially when they are unknowingly attached with one another, the two needed a balance not to pull apart. And that is were Leila gets in between, to become the mediator of the two extremes they are.

Thankfully Leila had not tied their fates yet. The short time back then shows their special bond. But that wasn't solid and still very malleable in the passage of time. This time, Leila will be taking her time to see if these two are willing to be good companions for life.

Like when Khelly built up some confidence back then, they were not very compromising with their opinions and were talking with building tension between them. Students were coming in, but some were scared to come inside with the looming atmosphere originating the pair.

Leila saw that the situation was not good. If they continue, at this rate the more they argue the more the rest of the students will be affected with them. Without regard to the fact that the two didn't remember each other, Leila broke the ice.

"Khelly. Harvey." Leila said with a blooming smile on her face, her eyes saying other things. "Will you two stop this and be friends for now? Duke it out after class if you guys can't help it."

The two immediately shut up. The girl closed her mouth in compliance, while the boy was scared with the hidden threat in the black haired girl's words. It was as if he had personally experienced the promises beneath them. He was left wondering if he had encountered these girls before.

Like a pair of scolded siblings, they behave after they are lectured by their mother. Peace once again reigns in the room. Leila made the two sit near each other with her on the side to keep them from disturbing others. Whenever they seem to fight again with their words, she throws them a glance in warning.

The two ushered a moment of peace, introducing each other. Afterwards they once again went into a fight under their pleasant smiles.

The rest of the students had already arrived. Leila spotted a few impressionable ones, all who stood out from the crowd. She reckoned, in addition to this pair beside her this class will be a little more lively, but a little tense than she liked. They had this glint in the eye that the former goddess didn't like.

First days in school are always the most fascinating events that the former goddess liked to see. It was always fun to observe and make first impressions that the students either reinforced or turned around. She was always looking forward to it more than anything else.

There are twenty students in their class. Due to the high requirements of the school, each class population almost never exceeds this number. It also means that every class had a fierce competition with how small their size is.

Long ago each class of the school was around fifty per room. But due to a fear of a principal before that the school's vision will be forgotten and disregarded, he promptly applied for a new way of keeping a tight quality control over their students. Thus the school's admission standards and grade became too rigid.

Although it is a public school, it's standards are comparable to a state college. It offers very good things for their students, but they need to keep up with their requirements.

The teacher was late and humans are social animals in nature. As the students were waiting for their adviser to arrive, they mingled with each other. Some even made a quick group and some found kindred spirits. Some of them approached their group, but were repelled with the tension between the pair of girl and boy. So Leila, Khelly and Harvey were isolated from the class.

They didn't mind. They will make friends as the days will pass by anyway. They have a whole year to know everyone and be friends with everyone, so they are not in a rush.

And with that mindset they had, the class was becoming more and more harmonious. Until the teacher arrived.
