Chapter 14: The school is nice

The whole class was immediately put into silence when the door opened. Everyone's thoughts were singular at this point. Their teacher is here.

A woman of twenties came inside. She wore tight fitting clothes and her hands were some books. She had a very strict pair of brown eyes which were framed by square shaped glasses. At first sight all students are intimidated by her.

Indeed their hunches were correct. Their teacher is indeed strict, only a little more than the rest of the teachers of this school.

She surveyed the whole class before she placed her books into her table. She then spoke in a voice that is lower than normal females but not alike to a man at all.

"This is class 1B correct?" She asked everyone in the room.

Scared from the momentum of the teacher, the students only nod in compliance. They somehow expected it, but they didn't think their teacher would be this fierce.

"Good." The teacher said as she took a piece of chalk and wrote her name in it.

"My name is Rebecca Yeil, call me Ms. Rebecca not Ms. Yeil. And I will be your advisor for the whole year. I will also be your teacher in magic language. I hope you guys will be submitting your materials on time." She said as she turned around to her students.

"As you probably think of now, I am indeed a very strict teacher. I hope you kids will be able to follow the rules well. I will care not who started it or how it started, but as long as you guys are involved in it you'll be punished according to what we already established. Do you all understand?" Rebecca said, emphasizing her tight control of the class.

"Yes Miss." Everyone answered in chorus.

"Now good. I want everyone to stand up and go to the side." At her words everyone promptly followed her instructions.

"I will arrange your seats in accordance with your last names. At least in my class you will not be changing seats unless I have said it so." Rebecca then arranged everyone by last name.

Leila was placed in a seat in the middle of the room. She had no problem with it as it also had the best view of the board. She'll have no problems taking notes.

Her only problem was Khelly and Harvey, their seats were very close. Like Harvey was in front and Khelly was behind. That arrangement is sure to irritate Harvey knowing that the girl behind him does not know the meaning of shutting up.

But what can they do? This type of teacher is hard to soften up. Her appearance might suggest she's somewhere in her twenties, the mass gathering of mana around her says otherwise. Her age could have been even older than she looks like. And if they insisted softening her up, with her years of teaching experience can they do so? She probably had seen all sorts of students, ordinary tricks wouldn't work on her at all.

The people of Earth have long lifespans due to Mana. The more you master Mana the more you will look younger than you should be. Leila's grandparents are an exception with this, something was wrong with them from the Mana alone. But Leila's judgement of how strong someone was with the Mana around them was almost never wrong. And clearly this advisor of theirs is powerful.

Leila doesn't want to do anything about it at all. At least in this teacher's time period there will be no unnecessary noise or nonsense. She likes this type of teacher despite how scary they often are. It made her altogether more reluctant to offend her.

Rebecca didn't make them do an introductory portion that all students are often subjected to during the first day of school. Instead she made them all listen to her discussing the rules and regulations of the school and class rules. She stated that even if there is no introduction, she'll learn of their names one way or another as the days go by.

After arranging the classroom officers, she left as her period was scheduled.

The students finally breathe easier. They talked among themselves, finally breaking the room's tense atmosphere. The newly elected officers were left questioning why they were chosen.

Wasn't the normal development voting who will lead the class? Why do they feel like a prisoner who got a sentence by a tyrant wimps? Can somebody answer them why?

Not minding those confused officers, Khelly immediately went to Leila's seat while bringing her chair. She slumped into the table and said. She wanted some comfort from Leila. "She's scary."

"She's not. The really scary ones have yet to appear." Leila simply said as she told the other that she'll listen to whatever the blond will say later. Another teacher will be coming.

As obedient as she always was to Leila, Khelly went back to her previous seat. Throwing a frown to Harvey on the way. She just didn't believe that of all people what must she be the nearest with this guy at all.

Harvey clearly didn't like how he was treated and was ready to flare up again. But behind the blond was the black haired girl. And she was giving him a warning, so he could only endure for now.

As Leila stated another teacher arrived. It was a he this time.

He was a funny man and was named Dylan Willows for their Mathematics. He was an extrovert and was a very sociable person. He was very jovial and finally the students got their time to shine in introducing themselves. Though he warned that he is not like this during real classroom setting, he hopes that they wouldn't get weird out with the changes later.

Leila didn't doubt that he won't be as scary as miss Rebecca. He is definitely not far off. Maybe more frightening, after all his impression of them is quite tame.

Leila paid great importance to the introduction activity as she likes to know further about the people she is with. Better careful than sorry, she needs to see the persons' characters in order to hide herself well.

She especially put great importance on the appointed officers of their class. They are clearly very extraordinary with the Mana and emphasis that miss Rebecca put on them.

These kids were Finley Porter, William Bean, Jessica Charter and Halley Keeps. They are the Class President, Vice President, Secretary and treasurer in order. The class didn't assign them, rather it was only Rebecca assigned them that position herself. So it's natural that they will be in the spotlight.

Most of them had no idea why they were chosen and they didn't have the courage to ask anyway. The officers themselves are also wondering why. They could only pay attention to what they are tasked with rather than wonder what could have made Ms. Rebecca chose them. The selection itself had given them enough fright with how everyone was focused on them.

They are not prepared for the beams on the eyes of their classmates okay! Can somebody take away their place? They didn't like this type of attention at all!

So let's just put a moment of peace for the poor students. For why they are chosen, let it be a mystery for now. It will make sense in the future even if for now it's all a question of whys.

Everything went fine as far as Leila could say. Her classmates can say otherwise, they are exhausted with just meeting their teachers. They had anticipated that most teachers will be strict and hard to deal with, but their expectations have clearly been breached. It made them question how their school life will be in the future.

Lunch break finally arrived and Khelly dragged her to the canteen. Of course Leila didn't forget to bring Harvey along. The guy is clearly uncomfortable with the class, she hopes to make him less awkward. Though she had the intention of bringing some liveliness on the other with how despondent he looked like to Leila.

"Why the hell am I with you guys?" Harvey said as he took a bite of the curry the canteen served today, despite how rude he was, his manners are on point. He also complained with the quality of his food, but ate anyway.

"I don't know either but she wants you here. And I wouldn't upset Leila in any way." Khelly said in a displeased tone. She really isn't as displeased as she sounds to be. She now remembered who this boy was and is more than willing to befriend him again. Bantering with him is fun, so she's more than okay with it.

"Nothing much. I want to have a moment with you guys that's all." Leila as she took her seat. " Also want to know how you guys are in these years. Though it's more directed to you, Harvey, I heard enough to know how Khelly was since this morning."

"Why would I?" Harvey said as he took a sip with his juice, finding himself liking it. "We're not that close for me to do that."

"Indeed we're not. But you and her were." Leila said as she ate her own lunch.

"Pttts~ please how are we close?" Khelly and Harvey said at the same time. Harvey was choking his juice while Khelly choked on her salad.

"Must you ask? You guys are always on tune even way before." Leila said as she looked at the pair who had an unbelieving look on them. The two have always been too compatible, even without any external aid to make them close at all.

The two looked at her like she had some screws on her. Feeling offended she asked them what.

The pair didn't say much and continued eating. Somehow they cannot deny what the other had said. Because even with a look they really do understand one another the best. So annoying!

Seeing the two doesn't want to talk, she once again took their attention again. "Well Harvey why keep silence. I don't remember you like this. Talk."
