I was on my way to pick up my new friend after admitting everything to Benjamin, and having a long and hot shower.
I had spoken to the care home already and they had said there was only 4 kittens left and 3 were reserved, apparently this kitten was in the rough end before found in an alleyway, which made me want it even more.
The kitten is only 4 weeks old and has anxiety.
I took the offer straight away, they want to give it away for free since it's anxiety medicine costs so much and they think that it really needs a pleasant home.
I park up my car before strutting up to the animal centre, making sure I had locked my car up as I was in a dodgy looking area.
"Hi" I greet the receptionist, "I'm here to pick up...Oliver?"
She lets out a nod and points to the door that states 'CATS' on it, she actually seemed kind of annoyed that she had to point it out for me, but I ignore it anyways.
I thank her before heading though the door, shutting it behind me.
A women steps out of an office and holds her hand out, "we spoke on the phone"
"Yes, I'm here to collect Oliver and I have already grabbed his medicine on the way here. Including an anxiety scent thing that you plug in so the homes smell releases stress?"
"Oh yes, you seem very prepared. Now, Oliver is really shy and hardly comes out of his little bed" she explains to me as we walk past different rooms, each one built so it had multiple platforms with different toys and beds.
We reach the end and she wipes the card and leads me inside, the walls being glass on the side we entered.
"Oliver" she calls out but no sound is heard, "I'll wait outside, try and bond with him"
She walks out and I look over to see a kitten hiding behind a bed looking thing, making me smile slightly.
"Oliver" I say softly before sitting down, showing I mean no harm.
I pay my lap as it looks at me curiously, "it's okay"
It slowly walks to me and I hold my hand out for it to sniff me, my heart leaps but I try not to make a sudden move my that will scare him.
It then jumps up onto my lap and I begin to pet it slowly, and when he purrs I take it as a positive sign.
"It's okay buddy, I'm taking you home" I say and place him into my arms, still stroking him lightly.
Instead of a response he meows at me and I 'awww' before taking him outside the room, closing the door again before walking away from it.
"I'll be taking him now" I say to the animal centres receptionist, as I walk past with Oliver huddled up in my arms.
She waves goodbye and gets me to sign out before I lead my new friend to my car.
I place him on my lap as I start the car journey to his new home.
Marie is going to love this little fella.
"I also speak Spanish by the way" I say to the cat like it's human, and I almost smack myself on the head.
Crazy cat lady here I come.
I park up in my drive way and pick up my bag and Oliver, gently holding him into my body and away from the wind.
"You have your own room" I say while opening the front door with one hand, placing my keys into their bowl before walking up the stairs slowly.
We walk up and I immediately take him to his room, the place is anxiety proof and has tons of comfort and food and toys, hopefully that should be enough for him.
I place him down and he walks over to a scratch post. He sniffs around it and I take it as my go to take a photo to show Marie, knowing it would brighten her day up.
I send it to Marie and after she opens the message she requests a face time, almost instantly.
"Where is it?" She asks and I switch the camera around so it's on him, where he's lightly tapping the scratch post to see if it will hurt him back.
"His name is Oliver and he suffers from anxiety, apparently he has a bad past and opens up to nobody. The lady almost had a heart attack when I picked him up and he cuddled me!" I laugh at the memory.
"It's settled, I'm coming over tomorrow! I'm an auntie!!" She cheers.
We talk for a little longer before I take Oliver with me to my bed, to get him familiar to my scent.
I also bring a bed for him but he refused to sleep in it and after many attempts of trying to jump onto my bed, I placed him on the bed where he fell asleep on my stomach, curled up in a little ball whilst purring lightly like a snore.
