I hear the sound of beeping. It smells...like the hospital? I groggily open my eyes.
I felt a heavy weight on my left and looked over. I see Quinn sleeping on my hand. Oh...she looks so peaceful...so pretty...
I stared at her for so long it felt like that time had stood still, just for that moment.
Eventually, she woke up. Her eyes met mine and there was nothing but silence. She knew I was staring at her but she didn't tease me like I thought she would.
We sat there, staring at each other until a doctor came in. Startling us from whatever spell we were under in.
"Ah Ash, good to see your awake," He said, "I am Dr. Hendrick, how are you feeling?"
"Fine..."
"That's good to hear," He flipped through some papers on his clipboard. "When we did some tests on to why you fainted in the middle of school, we found out that your body was lacking nutrients and that you were starved. Anything you like to say, Ash?"
He looked at me with this worried look on his face. Almost as if he...cared? But that's not possible, I don't know him and he doesn't know me, there's no way he would care about some stranger who ended up in the hospital. I squeezed Quinn's hand and looked straight up to this man.
"No...I have nothing to say..."
He made a small thoughtful noise before writing down some things on his clipboard.
"Anyway, I'm glad you're awake now, some people here were worried sick about you!" He winked at me.
I looked at him in utter confusion as he left. I turn towards Quinn to see her blushing. Then I realized we were still holding hands.
"O-oh..I'm sorry," I say, quickly letting go.
"No!" She said a bit too loud. "Don't be..."
"I- uhm...thank you for being here with me," I said, blushing.
She smiled. "You're welcome,"
