Chapter 8: Transitioning - Part 3

After FengGe woke from his chair, he noticed that his mother was barely moving, he placed his hands on her, one on her forehead and the other above her heart, still feeling some signs of life within her had given him hope that she may recover. He then went to check on LongWei and he sensed that he had been in, but he saw his bed had not been slept in, he can only suspected that LongWei popped in for something then popped out. FengGe was a little worried that he hadn't spoken to LongWei since that afternoon at the bakery.

A lot has happened in FengGe's life, the majority of the changes he had noticed after finding out about his gift. FengGe also noticed that the guidance he was receiving, he thought might be possible that LongWei was getting the similar 'advice' of someone else from another source. FengGe contemplated looking for him, but he trusted LongWei to make the right decision for himself.

FengGe carried out his day and called on his neighbour Jia Yi to look after his mother, as he needed to go to work as he hadn't been in for a few days,

"Jia Yi, sorry to call on you so early, but I really need a favour?" FengGe said desperately

Jia Yi stretched and yawned "It's not a problem"

FengGe placed his hands together "Jia Yi I need you to look after my mother for a few hours, as I haven't seen my younger brother LongWei for days, I just need to get back to work." FengGe pleaded.

"Sure I will right over" Jia Yi accepted

"Thank You" FengGe said, shaking Jia Yi's hands then headed off to work.

Soon as FengGe arrived at work, he went to see his boss to apologize and his boss understood after he had explained everything then carried out his duties and deliveries.

"FengGe?" his boss called out from a distance, "It's good to see you again. Your mother doing alright?" He asked sympathetically.

FengGe stood quiet for a moment thinking how to answer, "Erm...she is doing alright thanks. Coping steadily." FengGe said, looking to the floor.

FengGe's boss knew he was worried and decided it's best to leave it at that, "OK, so I shall leave you to do your rounds today, leave whenever you want."

"Thank you boss" FengGe mumbled barely audible, as his boss walked away.

FengGe seemed to have taken longer on his errands, which had made his day drag on longer than usual, he had contemplated taking on his bosses advice to leave early, but he did not have it in him to give someone else the jobs he had to finish. Last time he did that he felt guilty in doing so throughout the whole day. Now he just works things out on his own even if it stresses him out, but he always pulls through eventually.

FengGe managed to finish what he needed to do, but he barely had any energy left in him and as it was dark, he knew how late it was, he attempted to walk quickly back home and ended up dragging his heels. When he eventually arrived home he saw his neighbour walking down the stairs, FengGe had a bad feeling rushing through him and he didn't know what to do.

"Ah Jin! What's going on? How is she?" FengGe asked quickly

"FengGe...FengGe..!!! Calm down a little, she is still breathing and just sleeping I only came down to get a glass of water." Jin responded positively.

"Don't scare me like that, I am way too tired for that…"

"I can see that, do you want me to stay the night?" Jin offered

"That is very kind of you, I am so sorry to be a nuisance to you." FengGe glummed.

"No, It's no trouble at all. You have been through a lot in these short months, so anything to help you out" Jin said.

FengGe went all teary-eyed as Jin placed his hands on FengGe's shoulder for comfort, FengGe looked up at Jin with a faint smile.

The next morning arrived FengGe felt a little bit strange, he felt as though he was floating in mid-air, he pinched himself - he realised he was awake with his feet firmly on the ground, he moved around the room with the feeling like he was gliding, he also felt a little confused by it. He tried to ignore it and go about the rest of his day leaving his neighbour Jin with his mother again. FengGe coped much better with his errands; he was flying through it all without breaking a sweat. His boss was happy that FengGe was pretty much back to being himself, it meant that his business could start blooming again without any more hiccups.

After his boss left him for the day, FengGe felt a warm surge in both his arms, he ignored it and carried on working, but the warmth grew hotter, he wiped his forehead, looked at his hand, it was dry then he started to see smoke... he gotten worried and frantically checks the stoves, then realises he has already cleaned them out. He looks all-around and stretched out his arm to reach for something when he saw the smoke coming out of him, he tries to brush it away, but it seems to create more smoke.

He went home, no one seemed to notice the smoke surrounding him, he wonders if he's imagining it. Only two houses away he sees Jia Yi walking towards him, he wonders why he feels upset and angry at why he left his mother alone, he confronts Jia Yi.

Just as FengGe opened his mouth to say something, Jia Yi burst out "FengGe so glad to see you, your mother is calling for you"

FengGe's eyes widened with tears forming as he left Jia Yi. FengGe ran back to his mother, he clasped both his hands on his mother's hand and whispered "I'm here now". When he thought there was no movement, he could have sworn he saw her smile softly. He looked saddened and closed his eyes in the hope to stop his tears falling, but a few drops trickled down and FengGe felt his mother's hand on his face wiping his tears with her thumb.

Suddenly he found himself floating in mid-air carrying his mother to her bedroom and he realized he was actually flying.
