Melody's point of view~
I can't believe what I just heard. My ears must be deceiving me. There is just no possible way this could be true. Then she shrugged and walked off, leaving Razi and I to try picking our jaws up from the floor. Suddenly Razi is turned towards me and grabbing onto my shoulders for dear life. I'm still, I don't think I could move if I tried.
"Did that girl... just AVOID telling ME her preference?!" Razi asked dubiously as he gradually took his time lifting his eyes from the ground below him to me. Oh, my goodness, the drama is intense.
"No, she just said she was demiromantic a-and..." The second word caught me so off guard I almost can't bring myself to believe it. To hope that I just might have a chance.
"No, darling! All that means is she doesn't start getting all heart eyes until she forms a strong boulderlike connection with someone. She's... she's bisexual. And she didn't tell me before! My sister is straight and I'm gay. She knows, we actually took precious seconds out of our day to tell her years ago! But even before that she knew." He got quiet and continued with a hint of bitterness hidden in his tone. "Why doesn't she tell us?" He looks genuinely upset, remaining quiet after that.
Something tells me he isn't actually worried about not knowing her interest. He's simply concerned about not knowing. There is something they don't know. I don't know what it is, but it must be serious.
"She's probably just not ready yet. She might have, given time." I squeeze on one of his hands that went limp on my shoulder. He shook his head and brushed the negativity away. Then looked up at me with a wide grin, released me and ran a hand through his wild dark waves. "What?" I ask, confused.
"I recognize those goo-goo eyes you keep making at our little blueberry, darling." He states, eyes lighting up as my cheeks suddenly become much hotter. I try to stutter out some type of objection, but clearly it was in vain. He wasn't buying it, I could tell. And I couldn't blame him, I'm a terrible liar.
"Do I make it that obvious?" I sigh defeatedly. He laughs and shakes his head reassuringly.
"You just wear your heart on your sleeve, darling. I only notice because of theater kid attentiveness. Nova might catch on soon as she is a self-proclaimed matchmaker; either way she'll be plotting."
When I question him on the plotting part he just shrugs. "And Bliss?"
"Oh, my darling. Ro is complicated. Let's say that she is more aware of others than they are of her. Even I have a difficult time reading her and she is like another sister to me." He looks at me with sympathy. "Enough depressing talk! Tell me a bit about yourself!" Razi finishes with immediate pep.
"Oh! Um, okay! I'm a senior in high school and have three good friends. Ethan, Hailey, and Levi. I love painting and baking. I take after my mom and only have one sibling. How about you?" I start and turn the question back at him. He listens and smiles politely.
"I'm also a senior! I take drama classes where I met my boyfriend Ushi, and I'm a history buff believe it or not. I was adopted by the best people I know and I'm bilingual."
"So, English and...?" I ask curiously as he pauses.
"Hindi. If it wasn't obvious, Nova is Indian. Same with the rest of our family, so you could say the language was thrown around quite a bit. It was either learn or be left out of the loop. And being left out of anything isn't my style." We both laugh. "But we also know Braille, tactile signing, and sign language." He informs, which reminds me.
"That's super interesting. How?" I had to learn sign to communicate with my little brother when we found out he was deaf, but it's not often others know and understand it.
"Ro taught us." He smirked at my bewildered expression. "Yeah, she's a special one. A real jack of all trades. I can't think of a language she isn't already fluent in."
"Does she aspire to be a translator of some sort?" Is my first guess.
"No, far from it. I think it's more of an f-bomb to her family roots. Or a memento to her ethnicity. These are just theories, but that's a story you'd have to hear from her personally. She's a writer."
This is a story that I'd love to learn more of. I hope that I somehow become closer to this group, and to Bliss, so they can trust me enough to open up more. But these small pieces of who they are is definitely more than enough for right now. Writing is similar to painting; it's a form of art. Beautiful in its own unique way. Theater, again, is another form of art. There is just more confidence thrown within it.
"And what about Nova?" I'm sure this lovely bubbly teen can't be much different.
"That red headed beauty queen is a fashion major. Specializing in cloths and makeup. Aspiring to be a makeup artist slash costume designer. Quite a humble, behind the scenes, career choice. Especially for such a vibrant human being. Still, she'd rock the stage from the back!" He glances at his sister with a proud smile, and as if she knew, she looked over and smiled back. Then they both returned back to their own separate activities as if it was normal.
Their relationship is so precious. Their is so much love and respect towards each other. The support and understanding of their differences is truly something else. And I was right about Nova. Any type of design or fashion is a statement. A statement of expression. Art is expression. That doesn't change with the form it takes, the form it takes is what causes the change.
"That's amazing. All of your passions are." We shared a calm, appreciative smile. "Which school do you all go to? You all go to the same school, right?" I ask with sudden curiosity, pensive on why I've never seen these people around before. I'd remember them, no doubt about it.
"We transferred here last year and just recently switched schools. It's supposed to be that ginormous building right around the block, I forget the name. We haven't actually attended yet. We should begin there after break. And yes, all of us go to the same school. Even my boyfriend will be switching with us, he's such a gem. I should just throw all plans out the window and elope with him!!" He stops to swoon and I giggle in adoration. The building right around the block he said. I glance up and over.
"Wait. Do you mean right around the block from here? Like—." I got cut off by a new presence with us.
"Right there, Angel." She pointed to the building so tall it can be seen from where we are standing.
I looked up at her and everything else disappeared. She's wearing a neutral expression, her stance a relaxed confident, beauty just dripping off of every part of her.
"Were you eavesdropping, Ro? How could you possibly know what we were talking about?" Amusement is in his tone, but I'm still too enthralled in her eyes to know much else.
"Nova smiled at you randomly, so you were talking about passions. You shouted about eloping, meaning you were talking about Ushi and the transfer. And she looked towards the school, verifying my assumptions." Ending her clarification with a calm shrug. Razi and Nova both chuckled, clearly not surprised. And little applause chimes in with them.
I didn't even realize Luc and Nova came over with her.
I'm amazed she was able to sum up the majority of our conversation solely based on three simple actions. I can't even say that she is overly attentive like Razi, she just carries a casual awareness with her. Nonchalantly observational and majorly intelligent.
How can one person carry such a big temptation over my heart so soon? I don't completely understand it. It's like something draws me to her and I really don't want to hold myself back. But she's beautifully broken. I'm worried that if I step any closer, she'll take ten steps backwards.
In these few hours I've known her she's become my anchor. Her eyes, the ones I'd love nothing more than to lose myself in. They are the color of those vast dark waves. The waves that offer no direction or certainty, yet captures you with its very being. Making your body follow despite the unpredictable journey ahead. She is mystifying. And the worst part? I'm already lost at sea.
So, I need her. I need that anchor within arms reach. Craving for her presence to consume me.
"MELODY!!!" Two people shout in unison, jolting me back to reality. Nova and Razi are both staring at me exasperatedly and Luc is tanking at my arm. He stops and they both sigh when I blink back to life.
"Well, welcome back sugar!" Nova smiles at me cheerily.
"Geez, you're as bad as Ro. You zoned, darling." Razi facepalmed amusedly.
Luc giggles at me from below. My cheeks flush from embarrassment. I hear another candid and a camera shutter. Bliss took a picture and grinned reassuringly. This finally brought a smile to my face and I giggled at the situation. Spacing out happens to the best of us. Let's just be grateful no one can read my mind or that might bring some real awkwardness.
"Time to go, sugar. The place closes in an hour." Nova informs me. I didn't even notice how long we've been here. Most of the day has passed. The sky is slowly losing its brightness.
'It's past my bedtime, sissy.' Luc signs at me with a yawn when he catches my eye.
"Sleepy, little buddy?" Bliss gets on a knee to ask. He nods, rubbing his eyes. She gives him a certain look that he reacts to by climbing on her back. Then she stands up straight and starts walking. Nova hops along with her and I'm cut off of staring by Razi clapping at me to gain my attention.
"Darling, you're drooling." He laughs as I hesitantly check. "Someone's a smitten kitten! Now come on, before you get left behind, darling." He throws an arm around my shoulder and forces me to walk with him. I giggle at his antics and continue alongside him.
A girl can get used to a group like this. I look down and blush. I'm rolling with the waves, and I love it.
